The Contract Wife Tries to Leave - Chapter 75
The bedroom was shrouded in deep darkness, and silence filled the space. It was as if all the sounds of the world had been cut off, leaving only the clarity of their breathing.
Leonid gently laid Johanna down on the bed. As she slowly regained some of her senses, she gazed at him in a daze. He loosened his tie, removed his jacket and vest, and looked down at her quietly. His gaze wasn’t indifferent. A shimmering heat, like a mirage, flickered in his sunset-colored eyes.
He draped his discarded clothes over a chair and poured a glass of water before returning to her side. In his other hand, he held a small packet of medication.
“Antipyretic and suppressant. Take them.”
“…”
Even though taking a suppressant now, after the Heat had already started, wouldn’t be particularly effective, it might help calm her down a little. Additionally, it was wise to take an antipyretic, as a fever often accompanied a Heat cycle.
Johanna slowly sat up, taking the glass and medicine from him. Her hands were trembling. She tossed the two pills into her mouth, swallowing them with water before the bitterness could spread across her tongue.
“Haa…”
Even after finishing the entire glass, her throat still felt parched, likely due to the heat that filled her body. She hesitated with the empty glass in her hand, and Leonid, seemingly reading her thoughts, asked,
“Would you like more water?”
“…Yes.”
She replied in a small, almost timid voice and gave a slight nod. Surprisingly, Leonid didn’t seem irritated or annoyed; instead, he calmly fetched another glass of water. Sometimes, he could be unexpectedly considerate and generous in the strangest of ways.
When Johanna finished drinking the water, he took the cup from her and placed it on the nightstand. Through the thin fabric of his dress shirt, the contours of his masculine frame were clearly visible. Johanna swallowed nervously and averted her gaze.
“How are you feeling? Can you bear it?”
“I… I’m not sure.”
“Well, the medicine hasn’t kicked in yet… Let’s wait and see.”
He sat on the edge of the bed, exhaling deeply, and unbuttoned three buttons of his shirt. He then rolled up his sleeves to his elbows and unfastened his belt, tossing it aside to a corner of the bed.
He ran his hands through his neatly combed hair, tousling it into a naturally disheveled state. Johanna watched him quietly, feeling somewhat confused.
‘…Is he not going to do it?’
An Omega’s chances of conceiving increase significantly during a Heat cycle. The whole point of this arrangement was for Leonid to have an heir, so from a practical standpoint, they shouldn’t miss this opportunity now that her Heat had started.
But for some reason, he didn’t seem inclined to be intimate with her. From the moment she realized her Heat had begun, Johanna had braced herself for what would happen tonight, so his lack of action left her puzzled.
‘Is it because of his aversion? Does he still not want to touch an Omega?’
Yet, if that were the case… he had been touching her without hesitation since the wedding, even kissing her. It was as if his obsessive aversion had somehow softened. Of course, all that physical contact could have been just for show. No, it certainly was for show, but still…
Still, his sharp wariness and aversion from before had significantly softened.
If asked whether she welcomed this change… Well, she didn’t plan to entertain any illusions of growing closer to him, not when she had resolved not to harbor any personal feelings.
‘…Could it be that he’s holding back to be considerate of me?’
Watching his back as he sat on the edge of the bed, she suddenly had that thought. Consideration… it didn’t quite suit him. But in truth, he was someone who was good at small acts of kindness. Even if those kindnesses were tinged with indifference.
Finally, as the medicine began to take effect, the excitement from the Heat subsided a bit. It seemed her fever had also gone down.
However, the relief didn’t last long. Soon enough, her body began to burn again, and every sense was heightened. The heat gnawed away at her reason. The pheromones that burst out spread quickly in all directions. Johanna gripped the sheets tightly, letting out a pained whimper.
“Ah… Hnn… Ugh…”
Leonid turned to look at her upon hearing her sounds. His gaze landed on Johanna, who was twisting her body and squeezing her legs together. He seemed annoyed but also… a bit flustered.
“Damn it…”
He muttered under his breath, running a rough hand through his hair. Fierce, unruly pheromones began to spill from him. Already struggling to maintain her composure, Johanna was completely overwhelmed by the Alpha pheromones that flooded her, leaving her dazed.
His sunset-colored eyes held an irresistible urge as he stared at her. A tense and dangerous atmosphere, like a tightly wound spring ready to snap, filled the space between them. It was the kind of tension that suggested something was about to happen.
“The medicine isn’t doing much, just as I thought…”
Leonid exhaled deeply, as if frustrated, and threw off his shirt entirely. His toned abdomen, muscular chest, and broad, perfectly shaped shoulders were fully exposed. Then, moving on his knees, he approached her, climbing over her like a sleek predator.
