The Contract Wife Tries to Leave - Chapter 85
On Friday night, Leonid came to see Johanna. It had been four whole days.
He seemed to have come to at least pretend to sleep together, so that those who believed they were truly married wouldn’t find it strange if he continued to ignore her and keep his distance.
“How have you been?”
At his indifferent greeting, Johanna, who had been staring at the floor, lifted her head. His crimson eyes met hers, but they were devoid of emotion. There was no trace of the passion from the day they spent together during her heat, as if it had all been a mirage from the start.
“I’ve been well. How about you, Leonid…?”
“There you go again. In front of others, don’t be so formal and just call me by my name. Got it?”
“…Yes.”
In any case, it seemed he intended to continue this charade until their objective was achieved.
“It would be convenient for both of us if you got pregnant that night. Don’t you think?”
He muttered, as if finding the idea of having to sleep together again bothersome. Johanna watched in a daze as he lay down on the sofa. Was he planning to sleep there?
“Miss Lucerne, sleep on the bed. Since we’re not going to have s*x, I don’t want to share the same bed.”
“What? No, I can sleep on the sofa—”
She hurriedly began to speak, but Leonid dismissed her with a wave of his hand and closed his eyes, as if telling her not to say another word.
“…”
After hesitating for a while, Johanna had no choice but to cover herself with the blanket and lie down on the bed. She tried to sleep, but couldn’t. She kept worrying about Leonid, lying on the sofa in just a thin gown without even a blanket.
Even though it was early summer, the nights were still chilly due to the large temperature differences. Wouldn’t he catch a cold like that? Granted, the chances of a hyper-dominant Alpha with a much stronger constitution than ordinary people getting sick were extremely low.
But you never know. If it were a severe cold…
‘This won’t do.’
Suddenly getting up, Johanna quietly stepped out of bed and tiptoed over to the armchair by the window. She remembered that she’d left a blanket draped over the backrest while reading there during the day.
Sure enough, the blanket was still there. Johanna quickly picked it up and silently approached the sofa. If he was already asleep, she didn’t want to wake him.
In the darkness, she could vaguely see the outline of Leonid’s face. Carefully, she spread the blanket over him. She made sure to tuck it up to his shoulders so he’d stay warm, not forgetting to smooth out any wrinkles.
“…”
Gazing quietly at him as he slept, Johanna unknowingly smiled softly and slowly stepped back. She wanted to wish him goodnight, but didn’t dare say it aloud, so she murmured it inwardly.
Returning to bed, she nestled under the warm covers and curled up like a shrimp, trying to sleep. This time, she drifted off without much difficulty.
Of course, Leonid was awake when Johanna covered him with the blanket.
There was no way he could sleep here in the first place. It wasn’t the sofa that was the problem. From the moment he entered, the room was filled with Omega pheromones, and that sweet yet faint floral scent reminded him of past events—the time when he had been so out of his mind that he’d devoured her from head to toe.
He regretted coming here instead of summoning her to his room. In that case, it would have been her who had to endure the Alpha pheromones lingering in his room.
He wanted to storm out of the room immediately, but doing so would seem strange to the servants who didn’t know the circumstances, so he tried to endure it with his eyes closed.
He planned to leave exactly three hours later. By then, no one would suspect anything.
He was enduring this unexpected ordeal when he sensed movement.
Hearing a rustling sound, he slightly opened his eyes and looked toward the bed. Johanna had thrown off the blanket and was moving quietly.
‘What is she doing? She should just sleep.’
