- Chapter 10 - The Courting Elf And The Very Meowtiful Cat (Part 1)
Hydrangea was about to go home when he was stopped by Count Northpole who still wanted to ask him something.
“Um, is there a reason why you want a decorative wife?”
“That’s…”
I don’t like talking about my situation that much, but this Count Northpole seems like a prudent man. I guess it should be alright to tell him. Hydrangea decided to tell the man about the difficulties he had with women since his adolescence.
“—and that’s why I dislike women. I wanted someone whom I could temporarily marry so I wouldn’t get into any more trouble.”
“I see. So that’s why.”
Understanding dawned on the Count as he realized that nothing could be done after hearing about the other man’s circumstances. However, it seemed that Count Northpole also wanted to discuss something.
“It’s a personal matter, but my wife and I are expecting our first child after 6 months.”
According to him, Violette had given them her blessing, and was going to use the opportunity to leave home and work in a monastery.
“My wife and younger sister get along well. But perhaps she felt uncomfortable about it.”
If the child turns out to be a boy, she would not be able to hold him. Moreover, it is unthinkable for someone who turns into a cat to become an aunt.
“Violette told me that she did not want the child to feel obliged…”
“Is that so? Even though the cat is innocent.”
“Eh?”
“It’s nothing.”
Hydrangea assured him that he would not add to her misfortune. At that moment, Count Northpole rushed up to him. Just as he thought the man would reach for his hand, the Count got down on his knees and pleaded.
“I have 3 requests!”
“People only ask for one, usually.”
“Please!”
The requests were his earnest wish as a brother who was sending his sister off to become a bride.
“Just as you’ve seen, my sister was placed under an unfortunate curse that kept her from going out.”
It seemed that Violette, who had been very active as a child, hated staying at home and frequently threw tantrums.
“We could do nothing but only accept her anger.”
They felt sorry for her, and tried to grant all of Violette’s selfish whims.
“S-so Violette grew up to be very self-centered and, well, assumes that all men in this world would do anything she says.”
Apparently, Count Northpole spoiled Violette as she was growing up. Save for teaching her magic, all of her whims were granted by their late father.
“……”
In other words, there was a possibility that she would be just as selfish around Hydrangea.
“My request is that you listen to her selfish whims.”
“Just what kind of selfish whims are these?”
“Things like picking rare flowers that grow in the forest, or getting the autograph of a popular actor.”
It seems Count Northpole had fulfilled all of those.
He would never say that it couldn’t be done even if the request was to bring down the Demon King or find the Holy Sword.
“It’s ok if it’s only every once in a while, but I would like to ask Duke Laudense to listen to my sister’s selfishness.”
“Why should I listen to that woman? There are servants, so wouldn’t it be fine if she just asked them?”
“Oh, yes, yes of course. But I wanted to tell you just in case.”
The second request was absurd.
“In the future, if ever Duke Laudense welcomes a mistress, please do not act cold towards Violette.”
Hydrangea choked just as he took a sip of the tea that had finally been brought to him.
