[A-and what would you like to talk about?]
Violette slowly backed away. She was very wary of this “good thing” Hydrangea wanted to share with her. As soon as she entered, he followed her inside and closed the door.
[Kyaa! Wh-why did you shut the door?]
“This is a conversation between husband and wife.”
[You pervert!]
Just what is she imagining? Hydrangea wanted to laugh but resisted the urge to do so. He pulled out a chair and sat instead.
The library contained so many magic books that it lined the shelves from floor to ceiling. Even the ceiling was covered with gravity-defying books. But of course, it was only possible because magic was applied to them.
Violette looked up at the ceiling and asked how those books could be taken.
“If you say the author and book title out loud, the book will come flying to you.”
[Eh?]
“Basic Pharmacology by Lindsey Aiscoletta.”
A book was automatically pulled out and slowly descended. Then, it landed in Hydrangea’s hands.
[Wh-what wonderful magic!]
Violette leaped onto the armrest of the chair Hydrangea was sitting on and touched the book cover with her paw to check its condition.
[It looks and feels like a normal book.]
“That’s because it is. It’s just that the books and the atmosphere around here are imbued with magic.”
[It’s like something out of a fairytale.]
“This is reality.”
Hydrangea wanted to pull Violette closer and let her read the book while she sat on his lap, but he resisted the urge to do so because she seemed angry.
[So what is this good thing you wanted to share?]
“It’s this.”
Hydrangea placed the book on the round table and took out a rectangular box. Violette carefully peered at the box while trying not to fall from the chair’s armrest.
“What do you think this is?”
[It doesn’t seem like.. A wedding ring.]
“Now that you mention it, I forgot to give you one.”
He had completely forgotten about the ring which granted its wearer resistance to the waves of mana coming off from the descendants of the Laudense Ducal House. Hydrangea belatedly remembered that he had left it in the pocket of his coat that had been taken to be washed.
Well, if it is there, it must have been retrieved by Heliotrope already and should be sitting in a drawer in my study.
[With a box this long, it’s definitely not a ring…]
Narrowing her eyes, she mumbled to herself as she thought it over. Just as he was about to reveal the answer, Violette told him to wait.
[I got it! A box this big could only mean one thing.]
“What do you think it is?”
[It’s a disciplining whip.]
Violette huffed and jumped down from the armrest as soon as the words escaped her lips.
“What’s wrong?”
[You’re planning to hit me with this if my memorization of magic is wrong, aren’t you!?]
“Do they still do that nowadays? Wrong.”
[It’s not a disciplining whip?]
“Why would you think such a thing?”
Violette cautiously came closer and jumped back on the armrest again.
“I’m opening it.”
[Y-yes.]
Hydrangea opened the lid and showed the Ruby Rod to her.
[Wah, pretty…]
Violette mumbled as she looked at the Ruby Rod inside the box.
[What’s this wand for?]
“It’s yours.”
[Mine?]
“That’s what I just said.”
[This is my… wand.]
Wanting a closer look, Violette got off the armrest and placed her paws on the wooden box to look at the Ruby Rod. But because she couldn’t see it clearly, she
ended up passing under Hydrangea’s arm and sitting on his lap.
At that moment, Hydrangea felt dizzy.
A cat is on my lap.
He thought he was dreaming, but there was indeed a fluffy, warm cat sitting on his lap.
He never imagined that he would have such a blissful moment, even if that cat was his sassy wife.
Violette placed her paw on the wooden box and gazed intently at the Ruby Rod.
“Do you like it?”
[Yes, I like it very much!]
Then, Violette realized that she was seated on Hydrangea’s lap. She leaped out of his lap like a bullet and took a low stance as she eyed him warily.
