- Chapter 30 - The Infatuated Elf And Naming (Part 2)
As he flipped through the pages of the book, Hydrangea found the description of the related cat species with vertical stripes.
“Here it is. It seems to be a great white tiger known as a Vitteil and it grows to about two meters.”
[I-is it really that big of a cat? I feel like it could easily trample on me when I am in cat form.]
“I don’t think it would do such a thing.”
The great white tiger seemed to adore Violette like a mother after all.
Hydrangea gritted his teeth in envy.
“It seems you have to make a contract with this mythical beast so it can serve as your familiar and do things for you.”
“[Don’t you have a familiar?]
“I don’t particularly need one.”
Familiars can create medicine, deliver letters, and even go into the forest to gather ingredients. Mages contracted with them could request them to do all these and other small tasks. But Hydrangea had many subordinates at work and many servants at home.
He was simply in a rare environment that did not necessitate having a familiar around. But the main reason he has not contracted with a familiar was because of his abundant mana.
“My mana levels are so great that small creatures do not come near me.”
[Does having a lot of mana have an effect on your surroundings?]
“It does. Most people who are exposed to waves of mana fall ill.]
The perimeter of the Laudense Ducal estate is surrounded by a barrier. But even if that is the case, people who have no magic resistance will fall ill.
Even Quince, his assistant at the Magic Division, used to throw up whenever he came near Hydrangea when they first met.
“I’ve heard that people are just fine if they’re at least a meter away from me. However, if they get closer than that, they say it becomes hard to breathe.”
[But I’m feeling just fine.]
“You’re right.”
So that’s why I completely forgot to give her the wedding ring with the mana protection.
“You might have a high magic resistance and mana protection. You probably have a high amount of latent mana.”
[Father never told me about such things.]
“I see.”
As for Violette herself, I couldn’t help but think that there’s something special about her.
But first things first.
I should tell her about how to make a contract with the great white tiger.
“So, what would you like to do?”
[Well. It seems quite attached to me and it could be a good playmate for Pomeranian, so I will make a contract with it.]
Violette seems to spend the whole day with Pomeranian. She treats him like a normal dog and isn’t aware that he is actually a great spirit.
If a spiritualist who worships Pomeranian knew about this, they would probably scream.
[Are you alright with it?]
“About what?”
[Well, this child could potentially grow more than 2 meters, won’t it?]
Having a great white tiger around was not a problem at all. In fact, Hydrangea greatly welcomed it. Living with a wife that could turn into a cat and a feline mythical beast was paradise for him.
If he were to be honest with himself, he was so happy that he could jump up and down at that moment.
However, his real feelings and thoughts were very different.
“I have nothing to lose by having a mythical beast around, so you may do as you please.”
[Thank you.]
Next, Hydrangea taught Violette how to enter into a contract with a mythical beast.
“There are three ways to go about entering into a contract with a mythical beast. The first one is to give it blood and force it into a contract with you, the second one is to force it to go into a contract by giving it a name, and the last one is to establish an emotional bond with it and ask it to enter into a contract with you.”
Out of the three options, Violette chose to ask the great white tiger cub to enter into a contract with her. If it refused, Hydrangea thought of forcing it into a blood contract, but—-
“Myaa!”
The great white tiger cub immediately agreed to enter into a contract with Violette. At that moment, a magic circle suddenly appeared and vanished just as fast after a chiming sound rang out.
[And with this, the contract is complete?]
“It seems like it.”
The great white tiger seemed happy as it rubbed its cheek against Violette.
Hydrangea was envious of both the one rubbing its cheek and the one being rubbed against. The white tiger and his wife who was in her cat form were so cute that they almost made his nose bleed for the second time today.
He pinched his nose and tried to endure.
[What’s wrong?]
“No, it’s nothing. But rather than that, what are you going to do about its name?”
[Won’t you name it?]
“Why me? It’s your mythical beast, isn’t it?”
When he asked this question, Hydrangea received an unexpected response.
[I intend to raise this child as my own. As such, doesn’t it fall to the father to give the child its name?]
“!?”
I could be the father of a great white tiger. It felt as if a blessing bell was ringing inside his head with this dream-like conversation.
“Th-then give me a night to think about it.”
[It’s troublesome not to have a name to call it by, so I want you to decide on a name now at the count of three.]
“Huh?”
It was a reckless request, but Hydrangea did his best to come up with a name.
By the way, they found out that the great white tiger was a female.
[Here I go. One~ Two~]
“…………..”
[Three!]
“Snow White.”
In another country’s language, the name meant “White”. Hydrangea only had three seconds to think, so he could only come up with a simple name.
When he looked at Violette, he saw her eyes narrowed and her tail swaying. He couldn’t tell what she was thinking just by the look in her eyes or by the movement of her tail.
“Is Snow White alright with you?”
[Yes, it’s a good name.]
It appears she likes it.
When Violette called the kitten Snow White, it meowed back to her as if in response.
And so, it was at that moment that the couple unexpectedly welcomed their first child.
