- Chapter 32 - The Elf’s Discovery And Cheese Omelets (Part 2)
In addition to Snow White, it seems Violette was also keeping warm with Pomeranian, since his fur was exquisitely warm.
According to his father, Hydrangea’s mother used to sleep together with Pomeranian as well.
Maybe it was popular with women because of its cute appearance and its harmless and laid back attitude. However, Pomeranian is actually a great spirit who has lived for more than a thousand years.
Breakfast was brought in after Violette put Pomeranian on the floor and she sat down.
The freshly made bread in the basket was piled high with a variety of sweet breads which consisted of rolls that contained fruit or chocolate and cake breads which used lots of butter and sugar.
It seems the different kinds of bread were served today because of Violette.
Hydrangea seemed to like the cake bread with its crumbly texture and rich, buttery flavor. The bread seemed to slowly melt on his tongue as soon as he put it on his mouth.
There was also an omelet that contained cheese. When Hydrangea cut it with a knife and lifted it with his fork, a string of melted cheese followed it.
This is delicious too.
Suddenly feeling someone’s gaze on him, Hydrangea looked ahead and saw Violette staring at him.
“What is it?”
“Uh, it’s just, you look like you’re enjoying your food.”
“It is my first time eating these after all.”
“You haven’t had cheese omelets before?”
“The dishes served in the House of Laudense haven’t changed in a thousand years.”
“Oh, I see.”
Cheese-filled omelets and sweet breads were apparently Violette’s favorite food.
When Verbena heard about it, she ordered the cooks to make it.
“I’m not very particular about my food even now, but… this is delicious.”
“Right? These are legendary recipes passed on from the House of Count Northpole.”
Because it was so delicious, Violette had asked the chef at the Count Northpole House to teach her how to make it.
It seems she also passed on the recipe to the cooks of the Laudense House.
Violette proudly puffed out her chest that Hydrangea couldn’t help but laugh.
“You laugh at the strangest things, you know?”
“Well… It’s just a habit I’ve had since I was a child. Don’t mind it.”
If he told Violette that he was amused by how proud she looked, it would put her in a foul mood. Moreover, since he was also previously warned by Verbena, he knew that he would pay dearly for teasing his wife.
Because of that, Hydrangea learned to respond with a safe answer.
“What’s your favorite dish?”
“I don’t have any favorites in particular. I haven’t really paid much attention to what I ate.”
“So you only see food as a form of nourishment?”
“Yes.”
“Even though you have such skilled chefs? What a waste.”
Then, Violette asked if she could add new dishes to the Laudense House’s menu.
“Now that you’ve already added some new dishes to the menu, it doesn’t really matter whether you ask me or not.”
Violette looked doubtful upon hearing his response. However, Verbena, who was waiting behind her, leaned over and whispered to her what Hydrangea truly meant.
“Madam, he meant to say that you are free to do as you wish. Master has always had a roundabout way of saying things, you see.”
“I can see that.”
Hydrangea’s ears twitched at Verbena’s candid words.
“Hey, I can hear you.”
Elves had good hearing, so whispering around them was useless.
“Then, please look forward to tonight’s dinner, okay?”
“Very well. I shall do my best at work and look forward to it.”
“My, it doesn’t feel like you are.”
Violette pointed out in a dull tone. Hydrangea sighed at his wife’s nitpicking.
“By the way, why do you know so much about cooking?”
“I was unable to go out of the house because of my curse, so I was interested in learning things that could be done inside the house.”
According to Violette, she dabbled in many hobbies such as playing instruments, singing, solo-acting, embroidery, knitting, reading, gardening, cooking, and so on.
“Although, it was very selfish of Father to forbid me from learning magic which I was most interested in.”
Hydrangea stood up when they came upon a lull in their conversation. The attendant immediately placed his coat on his shoulders and pulled the sleeves for him as he passed his arms into the armholes.
“I’ll try to get home early so I can teach you magic after dinner.”
“Thank you very much!”
Perhaps quite pleased, Violette thanked him with a radiant smile that was comparable to a rose in full bloom.
“I’m going.”
“Take care!”
Violette saw him off as he teleported to work.
I should finish work quickly and go straight home— is what I would like to do, but just as I think about it, incidents like this pop up.
Hydrangea thought the phenomenon to be quite mysterious.
There was a case of magic stone smuggling, so he had to immediately go to the port to conduct an inspection.
I should write to Violette that I would be unable to finish work and go home early.
But before he could put the letter in an envelope, a thought suddenly occurred to him. I wonder if she would be less angry at me for breaking my promise if I sent this as a bird?
Hydrangea hurriedly folded the letter into a bird and cast Correspondence Magic on it.
He then carried it outside the window and it fluttered away like a bird.
“Your Excellency, the teleportation circle has been prepared. Shall we depart soon?”
“Of course,” he answered in response to Quince’s question.
And so, Hydrangea rushed to the port town via Transfer Magic to investigate the truth of the incident.
