- Chapter 36 - The Concerned Elf And The Sulking King (Part 1)
The next day — Snow White suddenly peeked through the door when the servant brought in the ironed newspaper.
Hydrangea noticed that the small, light, and fluffy cat kept staring at him with a sense of wariness. It seemed like it was using the door as a shield while it observed him.
Since Snow White was a magic beast, she was different from an ordinary cat. Although it is hard to explain how exactly she differs from normal cats, she looked at Hydrangea as if she were searching for something.
However, she ran away when Hydrangea took a step towards her.
Aside from ordinary cats and his bride that could turn into a cat, it seems even the feline mythical beast also disliked him. Hydrangea let his shoulders drop when the attendant was not looking.
Violette was already seated when he teleported to the dining room using Transfer magic.
“Good morning, dear husband.”
“Good morning, my wife.”
Violette complained as soon as Hydrangea sat down.
“Dear, why don’t you just walk when moving from room to room?”
“It takes about 5 minutes to get to the dining room from my chambers. It’s a waste of time.”
“But it’s not good for your health if you don’t move around and get any exercise.”
“I appreciate the concern, but I get enough exercise at work.”
“What do you mean?”
The Magic Division conducted combat training and also dedicated plenty of time for hand-to-hand combat and swordsmanship.
“Although mages are known to be weak in close-quarters combat, that is all a thing of the past. Currently, almost everyone has mastered the art of melee fighting.”
“Oh, I see.”
At least half a day is set aside for training every other day for each team. Hydrangea also attends these training sessions frequently to check the skills of his men.
“But doesn’t it take a toll on the body to use Transfer magic all the time?”
“Don’t underestimate the amount of mana that the Laudense bloodline possesses,” Hydrangea also added that there was no reason for Violette to worry.
“Now that you mention it, you’re still fine even if we spend time together.”
“Yes, I don’t particularly feel any waves of mana or such.”
Previously, the brides taken in by members of the House of Laudense who were affected by their mana often experienced fainting spells and had to be confined in bed. Because of that, they had to wear magic tools regularly so they would not be affected by their spouse’s mana.
“By the way, did you receive the wedding ring from Verbena?”
“Yes, I have.”
The ring was nowhere to be found on Violette’s left ring finger.
“Why aren’t you wearing it?”
“Isn’t it weird to put a wedding ring on your finger?”
“What do you mean?”
“Shouldn’t a wedding ring be put on by the groom during a wedding ceremony?”
Since that’s the case, I guess Violette won’t wear the ring on her own.
On that note, maybe I should ask her about having a wedding ceremony.
“Would you like to have a wedding ceremony?”
“That’s… Well, isn’t it normal to want to have one?”
I haven’t even thought about the wedding. Come to think of it, I have a feeling the people around me asked when the wedding would take place but I never listened whenever they talked about matters relating to marriage.
“Well, if you want one, it should be alright.”
“I-is that so?”
“Sure. But the people who will be attending will only be the ones who know about your circumstances.”
“Yes, of course! I don’t have any friends at all, so….”
I heard that she had been forbidden from going out or even entertaining visits 10 years ago. It’s not so surprising that she would not have any friends.
“If necessary, you can invite someone to talk to.”
“No, it’s alright. I talk all the time with the attendants anyway.”
“I see.”
“But still, to be able to have a wedding ceremony is like a dream come true…!”
Violette joined her hands together in front of her chest and looked ecstatic. It seems she also wanted a wedding ceremony as much as everyone else.
Holding a ceremony changes one’s point of view.
Perhaps this is what we need to live as husband and wife from now on.
He thought it was a good opportunity.
And so, he entrusted the matter of deciding the wedding date and planning the wedding to Heliotrope and Verbena.
After breakfast was over, Hydrangea went straight to work.
