- Chapter 37 - The Concerned Elf And The Sulking King (Part 2)
Prince Magnolia visited Hydrangea’s office that morning to update him on the previous investigation related to the King.
Unable to hide his displeasure, Prince Magnolia took a seat on the couch.
“They got us.”
“Hou?”
Hydrangea received a one-page report from one of Prince Magnolia’s aides. Written on it was something unbelievable.
The King, who had a sweet tooth, had a higher blood sugar level than before. However, it was mentioned the doctor and the cook had discussed and decided to prepare food that would not be harmful to the King’s body.
But a few days later, the doctor and the cook were fired and replaced by someone else.
As a result, the Prince’s investigation team discovered that the King was fed as much sweets as he wanted which led to him becoming sick.
“How could such a thing happen in the blink of an eye…!”
“Still, it’s strange that he could be sick in such a short amount of time.”
While reading the report, a certain name stood out to him. It was the trading company of Tritoma Celsia, which had a close association with the House of Count Northpole.
It appeared that the tea, sweets, and other snacks were brought from this company.
“This is—”
“These seem to be my father’s favorites. I heard the place they imported the tea and sweets from has changed.”
“Do you still have any of these sweets and teas?”
“Yes, I think there’s still a lot in storage. Is there something wrong with it?”
“This company employs a mage. I suspect they might have tampered with these.”
“What!?”
The Prince immediately called for the person in charge of managing the King’s equipment and supplies and went to see the warehouse with Hydrangea and his entourage.
The warehouse was filled with items that could feed the guests at a ball, and they were surprised to find out that all these belonged to the King.
As they stepped inside, Hydrangea probed the boxes that were piled high for any magical reaction. When he did so, he discovered a box covered in purple mana. Upon closer inspection, they found about 30 boxes in total.
He opened a wooden box nearby. Inside were chocolate chip cookies.
“This is…!”
“Hydrangea, did you find something?”
Ordinary people could not see waves of mana coming from items, but Hydrangea could.
It was obvious at first glance that whatever it contained was not good. However, he did not know what exactly it contained, so they had no choice but to ask the person in charge of analysis to investigate.
“The Magic Division will have to inspect everything in this warehouse. Your Highness, I would like to ask permission to confiscate these items.”
“Yes, of course. Please do.”
Hydrangea summoned Quince who had been left at the office. He seemed to be in the middle of a break and appeared holding a teacup and saucer in each hand.
“Buhah!”
Having been unceremoniously summoned, he spat out the tea upon seeing his surroundings changed.
“What are you doing?”
“I-I’m sorry. You summoned me so suddenly.”
Prince Magnolia took pity on poor Quince.
“Hydrangea, you shouldn’t forcefully summon people just like that. I’m sorry, Quince.”
“N-no, it’s no trouble at all. I was just a little distracted at work.”
After explaining the situation to him, Hydrangea ordered Quince to analyze the tea and sweets.
“If possible, I’d like to have the results right away.”
“As you wish.”
While holding the teacup and saucer, Quince replied with a sharp expression.
“I’m counting on you.”
“Yes sir!”
After the investigation, Hydrangea and Prince Magnolia went to see how the King was doing.
According to his attendants, the King had been taking his medicines regularly and was able to get up and walk around at least once a day. His condition seemed to be gradually improving.
The King welcomed Hydrangea and Prince Magnolia from his bed.
“Welcome, I’m glad you visited.”
After greeting them, he bit into the chocolate chip cookie he was holding but Hydrangea immediately strode forward, grabbed his cheeks, and squeezed as if he were crushing them.
“Mm-mmfgh!!”
The chocolate chip cookie fell from the King’s mouth.
“Wh-what are you doing!?”
“Your Majesty, those cookies might be dangerous for you.”
“Wh-what did you say!?”
Since there was a possibility that some strange magic was applied to the tea and sweets, Hydrangea explained that the Magic Division was currently analyzing the affected products.
“B-but wasn’t that a terrible thing to do!?”
Both Hydrangea and Prince Magnolia looked away as the King puffed his cheeks indignantly.
