One of her dreams was finally coming true.
“By the way, when I checked mine before, this is what came out.”
Hydrangea wrapped his hands around the crystal in his palm. Then, the crystal changed colors from red, blue, green, and brown.
The four colors represented the attributes of fire, water, wind, and earth. It was proof that he possessed all four attributes.
“Now then, go ahead and try it as well.”
“Yes!”
Before he could set it down on the table, Violette took the crystal from Hydrangea’s hand. Violette turned into a cat in the blink of an eye
[N, myaa!?]
The dress she was wearing instantly dropped, and Violette peeked from inside the dress.
“What are you doing?”
[… I-I’m sorry. I guess I was just excited.]
She had completely forgotten about the curse.
Violette leaped onto the table and hung her head in disappointment.
Hydrangea absently reached out to give her a comforting pat on the head, but his hand stilled when Violette suddenly looked up at the same time before he could even touch her.
With his hand still hovering over her, he awkwardly reached for the crystal in front of Violette.
[I don’t know what came over me, really.]
“Well, don’t mind it. We are only going to determine your attributes and mana level tonight, so you do not need to write or remember anything for now.”
[Yes…]
Even though that was the case, Violette still looked downhearted.
The notebook she had brought with her was already filled with words. It seems she had been writing while listening to Hydrangea.
Violette was annoyed at her own carelessness. Her fur stood on end while her tail thumped against the desk.
She’s so cute even when she’s sulking. Hydrangea thought as he fixedly admired her.
[I was looking forward to reading my notes later.]
“This isn’t exactly a rare topic. Everything I’m teaching you right now is basic knowledge. It’s even written in the reference books.”
[Getting to speak with a mage like you is precious to me. My father never taught me anything after all.]
Violette looks absolutely adorable when she looks disappointed like this.
Even though he was robbed of the chance to pet Violette while telling her she was cute, he decided to avoid earning her ire by redirecting his attention to something else.
Hydrangea took a quill pen from the table and used it to stab the other hand on his knee hard enough to not cause it to bleed.
[What’s wrong?]
“It’s nothing.”
Right, we have to find out what her attribute is first.
Violette reached out a paw while looking down. As her paw made contact with the crystal, it immediately reflected her attribute as it was turned a bright red.
[This, it’s fire!]
‘No, not quite.”
The color reflected in the crystal was more scarlet than the red that was characteristic of the fire attribute. In other words, the attribute reflected on the crystal was flame.
“Your attribute is flame.”
[F-flame, you say?]
Flame is a very rare attribute, and only a select few possess it around the world.
If that is the case, then she must also have a considerable amount of mana.
Hydrangea took out a bottle and a glass bowl from the shelf.
[What’s that?]
“This water and bowl is used to measure the quality and quantity of your mana.”
The water emits light when the person whose mana is to be measured dips their finger in it. The amount of mana is determined depending on the intensity of light that it emits.
These items are one of the products that could be purchased from the magic shop.
Hydrangea poured a small amount of water into the bowl.
“We’ll know how much mana you have by just dipping your finger in the water.”
Hydrangea tested it first. After turning the magic lights off, he slightly dipped his finger in the bowl and the inside of the room was bathed in light.
[A-amazing…! This is your mana?]
“Indeed.”
Hydrangea had the most mana in the whole country. Nobody else’s light has shone brighter before. Next, he ordered Violette to try it.
[I’m nervous.]
“You may close your eyes if you want.”
Although Hydrangea had put up a defensive spell to avoid being blinded by the luminescence, Violette still felt dazzled by the light.
Violette tightly closed her eyes and dipped her paw in the water-filled bowl.
The water began to shine.
At first, it shone bit by bit, but the light flashed violently in the middle. The water shone so brightly that even Hydrangea who had resistance to light was dazzled by it.
“Wh-what the heck, this is—!?”
The whole interior was bathed in pure, white light.
But what was more surprising was that Violette had more mana than Hydrangea.
