- Chapter 47 - The Explaining Elf And His Shocked Wife (Part 2)
Violette carried a sleeping Snow White in her arms while Pomeranian padded alongside her. When Snow White felt Hydrangea’s gaze on her, she became wary and hissed at him.
She jumped down from Violette’s arms and left while Pomeranian took her place and sat on Violette’s lap.
When Pomeranian huffed and gave him a snort of derision, Hydrangea gave him a sharp, full-on glare. As a result, Pomeranian sighed deliberately, got off Violette’s lap, and walked out of the room.
“Small animals dislike you, don’t they? Is this because of your mana too?”
Hydrangea huffed when he heard Violette’s words which were laced with sympathy and pity.
There is a high possibility that Snow White is affected by my mana.
So if I prepared a ribbon with magic resistance, then she might not be wary of me anymore.
Although it was not easy to make a magic tool, a fire of determination was lit under Hydrangea who wanted to interact with his daughter.
“So, what did you call me for?”
“I went to visit your house earlier.”
“Oh my, is that so? Is my brother doing well?”
“Yes, his complexion has been much better compared to last time.”
After hearing about her brother’s condition, Violette looked relieved and placed a hand on her chest.
“What was your purpose for visiting them today?”
“I wanted to ask if they knew about your magical attribute and mana.”
“I… see.”
Her father Syran and elder brother Rogie had kept quiet and never told her the truth.
It did not make sense to Violette why they did such a thing.
She curled the hand resting above her lap into a tightly clenched fist.
“Why did Father and Brother do such a thing? Did they think I would not be able to use the great magical power I possess? Or was it because of the curse?”
“It’s neither of those. It was out of consideration for you that they didn’t tell you.”
An overabundance of mana is useless at this time and age. Besides, female mages are easily criticized and have a hard time even when they enter the Magic Division.
Those circumstances probably led him to forbid her from learning magic.
“Being a female mage is a thorny path. I’m sure your father only wanted you to lead an ordinary yet happy life as a woman.”
“……”
There is a saying from a foreign country that goes, ‘No child knows how dear they are to their parents,’ [1] and people have various opinions of what parents should do for their children out of love.
What is going through her head right now? Hydrangea snuck a glance at Violette.
Her downcast lashes cast shadows over her porcelain-white skin.
She has yearned for magic and pleaded to learn it only to be told no time and time again. Now that she knows the reason why, she must be feeling complicated.
“So why did you tell me?”
“I thought I should let you know because it concerned you. Besides, I dislike keeping things from the people I care about.”
Violette was the only one who knew what was best for herself.
There was nothing to be gained from continuing to hide the truth.
“Your father and older brother have always protected you. But things won’t be the same from now on.”
Since they were married, Hydrangea intended to protect Violette.
But even that had limits.
The time he spends with Violette is short. If a time comes when he has to choose between his wife and his job, he is obligated to pick his job.
This is the rule of the Ducal House of Laudense, a family who had sworn loyalty to the kingdom.
