- Chapter 57 - The Anxious Elf And The Unexpected Plan (Part 2)
“If we are going to fight, then I should go all out,” Hydrangea declared.
When he made eye contact with Prince Magnolia to see if there would be any problems on his end, the prince had a few questions for him.
“Hydrangea, does this mean you are holding the banquet in the evening?”
“Yes, why?”
“It’s quite unusual for a garden party to take place at night, isn’t it?”
“Well, I can’t deny that.”
Both Hydrangea’s grandfather and father had requested the king’s permission to hold their wedding banquets in the rose garden, so it did not seem strange to use it as a stage for their plan.
The Ducal House of Laudense also included a rose in its crest. Thanks to its protection, members of the family experience an increase in magic power when they are inside a rose garden.
But if we put up a barrier against remote magic, then the enemy mage would be reluctant to appear at the venue.
“Also, I couldn’t help but notice, but that ribbon your wife is wearing is some extraordinary magic tool, isn’t it?”
“Why yes, it’s a magic tool that prevents her from running away. I’ve spent several sleepless nights making it.”
Prince Magnolia did a double take after hearing the story behind it and cast a suspicious look at Hydrangea for the second time that day.
“I think I just heard something unbelievable but just to make sure, this is an anti-escape ribbon, you say?”
“Yes, indeed.”
Although he did not say it out loud, the chilling look he threw at Hydrangea seemed to say, “this pervert!”
“Why would you make such a thing?”
“I had forcibly taken my wife from the Count Northpole family and married her, so I had no choice.”
“Huh!?”
“I made sure to get permission from the family head. My wife Violette was the only one against it.”
“Isn’t that cruel?”
Hydrangea smirked as he rebutted Prince Magnolia’s remark.
“A nobleman’s marriage does not consider a person’s individual feelings. Besides, I had a bad feeling about her staying there, so I took her away by force.”
After witnessing Tritoma Celsia’s obsession with Violette last time, Hydrangea was convinced that he did not make a mistake in his decision to take her away back then.
“Are you alright with this, Milady?”
[Even though I thought he was despicable at first when he carried me away against my wishes, my husband has been kind enough to teach me magic. Moreover, the people in the Laudense ducal estate have also treated me so kindly, so it is not as bad as I imagined.]
“Is that so?”
Although Hydrangea felt unsettled with her answer, he decided not to ask to avoid prolonging the conversation.
Their conversation returned to the battle plans.
“So what I am understanding is that you plan to use the banquet to invite Tritoma Celsia and the mage. But what would you do if the mage manages to infiltrate the Laudense Ducal estate while Hydrangea is away?”
Their opponent’s power was unknown. No matter how many barriers the First had made, there was a chance that they could be broken. In response to Prince Magnolia’s question, Violette made a further suggestion.
[Then how about I accompany my husband to the Magic Division as his familiar?]
“In cat form?”
[Not quite.]
“What do you mean?”
If she accompanies me as a cat, the curse might suddenly lift like today and turn her back to human. That would be terribly dangerous. If that happens, what should we do?
Violette offered up a solution to their dilemma.
[I would accompany him in human form, but we will use Illusion magic to make me appear as a cat to those around him.]
“Ah, I see. If that’s the case, then you could always be near Hydrangea.”
Although Prince Magnolia agreed to her suggestion, Hydrangea furrowed his brow.
“Easy for you to say. Wouldn’t that mean I have to power the illusion at all times for Violette?”
[Indeed. It might be hard, but aren’t you the Kingdom’s foremost mage?]
Since she put it like that, then I can’t refuse.
Moreover, an effective countermeasure against the mage who they have not seen before was for Hydrangea to directly protect Violette.
Her plan makes sense.
