- The Elven Duke Reluctantly Marries The Cursed Lady
- Chapter 64 - The Skeptic Elf And The Present From Prince Magnolia (Part 2)
First of all, Prince Magnolia has never gone to the Magic Division before.
That alone was already suspicious, but it was made worse by the fact that he had prepared special balcony seat tickets that were hard to purchase on the same day.
Hydrangea was convinced that the tickets were not given to him as a favor.
“If this really is a wedding gift like you claim, then you could have handed them over when you visited the other day. Moreover, you could have taken these from its rightful owner out of sheer selfishness or you were supposed to use it but you suddenly could not attend.”
Prince Magnolia burst out laughing and clutched his stomach after hearing Hydrangea’s argument. Hydrangea regarded him with a skeptical look.
“What’s so funny?”
“Sorry, I never expected you to easily see through me. I underestimated your skepticism.”
Prince Magnolia wiped away a tear and admitted that Hyrangea’s guess was correct.
“I was supposed to go see it with my fiancée, but we had a fight the other day, so—”
With the king lying sick in bed, Prince Magnolia was busy. Because of this, he had to put off meeting with his fiancée.
“That’s, uh, she was rightfully pissed, so…”
“You… you didn’t use these to make up with her?”
“It would make me seem overeager to please, so I didn’t.”
“……”
Still, it was quite the hassle to let a woman remain angry. Hydrangea was painfully aware of this.
“But I do not think it’s wise to stay angry at each other.”
“If it had been a normal fight, I would have apologized after reflecting on it. But this time, it was an uncontrollable matter involving the country. I am not your ordinary man.”
Prince Magnolia bears the future of the country on his shoulders.
Asking him whether a woman or the country was important to him was foolish.
“Besides, a similar situation would probably arise in the future, so it would be foolish to try and curry favor with her every time.”
So, Prince Magnolia decided to give away his tickets.
“You’re not just strict with yourself, your father, and your retainers but also with your fiancée, aren’t you?”
“Of course. She seems to have been brought up in an environment where she would get angry and cry over childish things everytime and every one would try to appease her. I’m basically babysitting a child.”
Since she will be the future queen, he wanted her to be an exemplary lady.
However, his fiancée, who was brought up spoiled, has already made several tutors quit, and is in a difficult situation.
“Lady Linaria is still twelve years old, no?”
“Yes.”
“And you are sixteen, right?”
“What about it?”
“Well…”
When he heard the phrase “exemplary lady”, Hydrangea thought about Violette.
If it were her, I feel like she would be able to guide anyone.
“How do you settle things with your wife when you fight?”
“I—”
He never gave her anything to make up with her. In the first place, Violette had no desire for material things.
Whenever Hydrangea was at fault, Verbena would point it out to him. After feeling bad about it and reflecting on what he had said and done, he would usually go and apologize to her.
In Violette’s case, he would pet her on the head, calm her down, and they would talk about what happened. The last time they fought, that was how they settled it.
However, this method was limited to her cat form, and a different method was employed for her human form.
“I see. So instead of trying to please her, you talk it out, is that right? That might still be difficult for me and Lady Linaria. You and Violette are adults after all.
“Indeed.”
You should calmly talk it out and make up. After all, the country’s future is at stake.
“Anyway, I hope you and your wife enjoy the play in my stead, Hydrangea.”
“But—”
“Don’t worry about it. I will take over your duties as the head of the Magic Division for the rest of the day.”
“Huh!?”
“Quince, your second-in-command will be assisting me, so you can rest assured.”
When he glanced at Quince, he saw him stiffly nodding at him with teary eyes.
