- The Elven Duke Reluctantly Marries The Cursed Lady
- Chapter 7 - The Courting Elf And The Appearance Of The Stunning Beauty
Violette von Northpole was sickly and had never made an appearance in noble society even once.
In noble society, it was already considered a late marriage if someone was still single at 19 years old.
However, on top of serving as the mistress of the house after marriage, women are expected to bear children who would succeed the family name so it was only natural that a healthy and energetic woman is preferred when selecting a bride.
On the other hand, Hydrangea did not care whether his bride was sickly, or if she was past the normal marriageable age. After all, her purpose was only to become a decorative wife, and all he wanted was to get married.
And Violette was the perfect bride for that purpose.
“I have brought Lady Violette.”
I’ve heard that she was sickly, but is it alright for her to move around today? Hydrangea thought as he looked towards the door.
She must be a frail woman. At least, that’s what he thought.
However, contrary to his expectations, a flashy, golden-haired, blue-eyed beauty entered the room.
Her golden hair was arranged in vertical curls, and her eyes were slanted upwards like a cat’s. Her blue eyes showcased a mix of confidence and cheekiness, while her long, curly upturned lashes seemed to express her feistiness.
Her skin was white, but it was a healthy white.
She was tall, slim, and well-proportioned, with curves and enough skin showing in the right places.
Is this girl Lady Violette? If so, then she’s quite different from what I imagined.
Hydrangea could not help but frown.
A flashy beauty with large b*****s was the type he hated the most.
Please don’t let this be Lady Violette. Just as he was making such a wish, a loud voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Oh my. Dear brother, what do you think you’re doing!? You did not even serve tea to our guest!”
Violette turned around to go back to the hallway and called out in a loud voice.
“Hey Orchid, what do you think you’re doing!? Hurry up and serve our guest some tea!”
Her voice was clear, dignified, and beautiful. It was loud enough that it did not sound like it belonged to a sickly girl at all.
She might have called Count Northpole “brother”, but this does not mean they’re siblings. She could be his cousin, or even his sister-in-law.
No, this couldn’t be Lady Violette.
Hydrangea turned away from the gorgeous beauty and looked in a different direction.
But at the next moment, the beautiful woman occupied his field of vision.
“Are you an elf!?”
I thought my heart was going to stop.
Sparkling, curious blue eyes looked straight at Hydrangea.
The spectacular beauty leaned forward and peered into his eyes.
As she tilted her head, her golden curls fell from her shoulders and flowed into her chest and cleavage.
At that moment, Hydrangea remembered an entry in the book called The Illustrated Guide to Demons about succubi who appeared as beautiful women.
“Brother, it’s an elf!”
“H-hey! Stop pointing at him!”
“Elves really do exist, don’t they?”
“I know, but just sit down for now.”
The beautiful woman sat beside Count Northpole and continued to stare at Hydrangea as if she were observing him. Hydrangea had been the object of many a woman’s glances, but the gaze of the beauty in front of him was rather different.
The way she looked at him was akin to a young boy finding a rare insect, or an astronomer who had found the morning star. It was a gaze of pure curiosity.
“Duke Laudense, this is, uh, my younger sister, Violette.”
“It’s nice to meet you, my name is Violette.”
“…”
So this woman is Lady Violette after all.
“Uh… You, magic! Can you use it?”
Violette placed both hands on the table as she leaned forward and asked Hydrangea a question.
However, Hydrangea’s eyes were drawn into her bosom.
It’s not like he was trying to look, but it’s because her chest was the first thing that came into his line of sight.
As he looked at Violette, he realized that the sparkle in her eyes was not one of seduction but of curiosity.
It seems she wasn’t showing her b*****s on purpose.
Hydrangea rubbed the crease between his eyebrows and looked away. She’s just too defenseless.
“Can you light the fireplace with magic? We don’t have money to buy firewood, you see.”
“Violette!”
Ah, so it wasn’t their intention to keep the room cold like I thought. It was because they didn’t have money to buy firewood.
Now that I’m looking at it, Violette’s dress is very similar to the clothes worn by the woman in the painting. Perhaps that woman was her mother. If it’s the same dress, then it’s probably very old.
Seems like Count Northpole is a poor aristocrat.
Still, I’m not sure if I should commend his prudence in not accepting my offer of marriage right away.
But I’m curious. I wonder what kind of secret Lady Violette keeps.
If she’s not ill, then there might be some other problem.
Being strong-willed isn’t exactly a bad thing for a marriage partner. On the contrary, with such good looks, she could even be a favorite.
“Can’t you use magic even if you’re an elf?”
Bam! The table was struck with force.
“Stop this nonsense at once!!”
The shout did not come from Hydrangea. It was Count Northpole who angrily chastised his sister.
“Violette, this person is the head of the Magic Division who is a first class mage, Duke Hydrangea von Laudense — your suitor!!”
