- Chapter 72 - The Elf’s Direct Confrontation And The New Mystery
The witch doctor introduced himself as Auren Ezel.
Currently, such a name is not registered with the Mage’s Association. It is possible that he is using a fake name. On that note, I must confirm this with Violette later.
“Before I start my examination, I must ask only a few bodyguards to stay and the rest to leave. I am about to use a secret technique after all. This is quite different from the forbidden techniques of medical treatment, as it is a new type of magic.”
Auren Ezel briefly glanced at Hydrangea.
“This is the result of my long years of research. I would be troubled if this were stolen by the Magic Division.”
Quince was about to step forward and object at his words, but Hydrangea stopped him.
They followed Auren’s wishes and left the room as they were told.
◇◇◇
The only people left inside the bedroom were three escort knights, the king, and the witch doctor, Auren Ezel.
“So you are Auren Ezel. thank you for coming to see me.”
“It is an honor to meet you, Your Majesty.”
Auren placed a hand on his chest and bowed low.
“Then, I shall explain the treatment right away.”
“Very well.”
“Still, I must say these roses look amazing.”
There were rose arrangements in each of the five vases inside the king’s bedroom.
“The queen picked them for me. She chose buds that still haven’t bloomed so that I may enjoy them longer.”
“I see what you mean.”
One of the escort knights coughed as if he were hurrying them along to start the treatment.
“Ah, apologies. The treatment I am about to perform on you today is a magic that decreases the sugar in your blood. Once applied, it automatically absorbs the sugar rising inside your body and—”
A magic that does not negatively affect the body. That was what he claimed.
He explained how the suspicious magic worked without even batting an eyelash.
“Then, I shall begin—”
Auren Ezel took out a rod that looked like a conductor’s baton and recited a spell.
A purple magic circle appeared before the king’s eyes and disappeared in a snap.
At that moment, the king clutched at his throat in pain.
“Uh… Guuh, uwaaaaaaargh”
“Your Majesty!”
“What did you do to him!?”
The knights drew out their swords and pointed them at Auren.
“Stop making a fuss. This is proof that the technique is working.”
The knights looked hesitant at his words. However, the third knight thought otherwise.
He took his drawn sword and stabbed Auren deeply in the back.
“Wha!?”
While throwing up blood, Auren turned his head around to glare at the knight.
“Y-you’re… Hydrangea von Laudense!?”
“It took you a while to realize.”
The knight’s image flickered, and Hydrangea appeared in his place.
“You didn’t come yourself, so I decided to play a little trick on you.”
“……”
The suffering king’s form also flickered, and a pillow appeared in his place. Hydrangea had used illusion magic to make it seem like the king was present.
Auren Ezel did not even once notice that he had cast magic on a mere pillow.
Something cracked from inside Auren’s mouth the same time he clicked his tongue and his body, starting from the tips of his fingers immediately began to turn into sand.
“Hydrangea von Laudense…! You dare get in my way even in this lifetime!?”
“What?”
“You are just doing whatever you want because you do not remember anything!”
“What are you talking about? What do you want?”
“This time, I shall correct history—!!”
Auren Ezel said as he turned into a pile of sand within a matter of seconds.
“Tsk, he escaped.”
“Uh, umm.. Your Excellency, where is Delis?”
Delis Cletimas. [1] He was the king’s escort knight whose appearance Hydrangea had borrowed.
“He is in the hallway. Sorry for surprising you.”
The king was in his office next door. The escort knights exited the room after giving him a slight bow.
This time, the only ones left in the room were Hydrangea and Violette.
Violette was crouched low while holding her head.
“Oi, are you alright?”
Violette leaped into his arms at the same time he checked on her.
Tears flowed from her eyes as she turned into a cat.
Hydrangea hugged the small cat close without asking anything and gently stroked her back.
◇◇◇
He did not know what was going on with Violette, but she seemed afraid.
She had already turned into a cat even before Hydrangea could touch her.
Is fear the trigger to her transformation?
Violette was curled up on top of Hyrdangea’s lap. She seemed to have significantly calmed down, but she would not go to Verbena and stuck to Hydrangea.
What is with this unusual fright?
But that is not the only problem that has come up today. Auren Ezel also said something that bothered me.
“I see. So he turned to you and said ‘this lifetime’…”
Prince Magnolia crossed his legs and placed his hand on his chin as if he were in deep thought.
“So that witch doctor said it in a way that implies he and you have crossed paths in the previous life, correct?”
“Indeed. However, I have no inkling of such a thing.”
It wouldn’t be surprising if not only Violette but also Hydrangea were “reincarnated” and were associated in their previous lives.
“Anyway, I already attached the Scarlet’s scent on his magic signature. I would know the moment he appears no matter where he is or what form he takes.”
Auren Ezel’s specialty, Remote Magic, kept the user from any harm no matter the distance. However, it also prevented him from seeing through illusions or any type of magic aimed at deception.
“I wonder if he could have seen through my illusion if he had come in himself.”
“I’m so glad we’re not enemies,” Prince Magnolia earnestly whispered to himself as he listened to Hydrangea ramble on.
Translator’s Notes:
[1] Cletimas – seeing as the names follow the names of flowers (not sure about Auren… or is it his surname that’s from flowers, or maybe a plant? Drop a line on the comments if you know lol), I am assuming this is a typographical error and the correct surname is “Clematis”. However, I decided to keep the romaji reading in case I encounter this name again in further chapters.
