- Chapter 9 - The Courting Elf And The Stunning Beauty’s Meowsterious Curse (Part 2)
Hydrangea watched her intently as her tail swayed from side to side while she walked and only came to his senses after the door was shut.
“Were you not surprised?”
“Just what kind of curse was it?”
“We don’t really know when she got it or who cursed her.”
“Well, curses are always like that.”
“I see.”
Although their father, Syran, was a fifth-class mage, his son Count Northpole did not possess the talent for magic at all.
“He taught me magic with great enthusiasm, but forbade my sister from learning it. As a result, she became more interested in magic than other people.”
When something is forbidden, the more you want to know about it. It must be that kind of mentality.
“Why did your father forbid Lady Violette to learn magic?”
“I do not know either. He must have forbidden her because it’s dangerous.”
Accidents are bound to happen while learning magic. Stories of people getting burned by the fire they created when they cast spells, or getting frostbite from ice magic are an everyday occurrence.
“Whether magic is dangerous or not depends on the teacher.”
“My father was not confident with his magic.”
“Well, that’s…”
Hydrangea answered ambiguously without clearly agreeing to the other man’s statement.
“By the way, I heard that your father had passed away, but…”
“My father… died because of a curse!!”
Count Northpole’s words were filled with emotion. It was a miserable mixture of hatred and grief.
“A curse…”
Hydrangea’s heart skipped a beat after hearing that. After all, he was the one who had put the curse on the man’s father.
However, the only condition for activating the curse was if he did something evil through magic. It was unthinkable that such a hopeless man would commit an evil deed that would trigger the curse.
But it was not absolutely impossible. After all, Hydrangea had only met Syran once on that fateful night. Moreover, if the curse were triggered, he, the caster would have noticed it so he guessed that there must have been another person who cast a curse on Syran.
“It might be bold of me to ask, but I would like to ask for your help to find the person who cursed both my father and sister. The reward is—”
“Getting married to Violette is enough. May I ask you to give the reward in advance?”
“Eh?”
“What do you mean, “eh”?”
“No, I.. you want to marry my sister?”
“Indeed, that is what I said.”
“But my sister is strong-willed and curious, and transforms into a cat due to her curse!”
I don’t like her flashy appearance, but I do find her cursed form attractive.
Hydrangea smiled as he remembered Violette’s cat form.
But despite his feelings, the next words he uttered were harsh and unforgiving.
“At any rate, she will only be a decorative wife so it does not concern me whether she’s strong-willed or turns into a cat.”
“A decorative wife…”
As a brother, he must want her to have a happy marriage. However, I want him to face reality.
“Do you really think that a woman who is past her marrying age and is cursed to turn into a cat could have a decent marriage?”
By marrying Violette, Hydrangea would also take care of Count Northpole’s problems.
Such an arrangement was beneficial for both sides.
“U-understood. My sister may be inexperienced, but I thank you ever so much for your kindness.”
“Don’t mention it.”
Thus, the marriage between Hydrangea and Violette was decided.
