The Esper Grand Duke Wishes For Purity - Chapter 13
Soon, a lengthy explanation followed.
[Note] Translator: I saw on the news that you disappeared through aGate, so I realized you must have crossed over to this world. I was sure you’d be having a hard time, so I came to help.
Heejae’s eyes grew wide as saucers.
[Note] Translator: Hmm… I wasn’t sure if this would work, but it does. We’ll have to see how far it goes from here.
The translator seemed to be rustling around—though all Heejae could see was the blue square, it somehow felt like it was bustling about—then suddenly shouted in a proud voice: Ta-da!
[Note] Translator: First, I’ll give you a language ability.
Tiny fireworks popped along the edges of the blue square window. Heejae just blinked, unable to make sense of any of this, when Kylus’s voice was heard.
“It seems Ren has come to his senses. We should let his companions who are waiting know.”
“I’ll go fetch the leader of the priests.”
Heejae blinked. The translator said it would give him language ability, and sure enough, he now understood perfectly the language of this world.
When he shifted his focus to Kylus’s face, the blue square window naturally faded away, like a smartphone UI customized for user convenience.
Come to think of it, the translator said it saw theGate incident on the news. Did that mean they were searching for him, the person who disappeared from Korea? Was it a supernatural from the rescue team trying to contact him?
A translator… what could that even mean?
While he was lost in these tangled thoughts, a shadow fell over his face. Heejae glanced up and was startled to find Kylus suddenly close.
“…!”
Caught off guard, he thought for a moment that Ha Sehyeon had come closer. His heart pounded so hard his entire energy wave reverberated through his body.
Kylus must have felt his wave, but his face remained calm. He simply raised the blanket to cover Heejae up to his neck, showing no change in expression. Even as he tucked the edges of the blanket tightly to keep out the slightest draft, he was careful not to let a hair of his own touch Heejae’s body.
It seemed he didn’t intend to speak to Heejae at all. Heejae’s wide-open eyes followed Kylus’s every movement, but it was obvious Kylus was deliberately avoiding his gaze.
Heejae coughed roughly on purpose and cleared his throat.
“…Do you need something to drink?”
Before finishing his sentence, Kylus was already moving. He smoothly picked up a cup of water from the trolley Amara had left and brought it over.
“……”
“……”
Heejae had expected Kylus would help him sit up, since he’d so gently covered him with the blanket. But Kylus simply stood there, stiff as a board, looking down at him.
[Wow, he’s really uptight.]
Heejae muttered awkwardly, then quickly clapped a hand over his mouth. At that moment, the blue window popped up with a ‘pong!’ Just like a smartphone alarm, it startled him, and his pupils automatically tracked the motion.
[Note] Translator: Oops, my mistake. The system is still updating. The function isn’t perfect yet, so please speak slowly and consciously.
Speak consciously? How was he supposed to be conscious of a language he didn’t know in his head?
Frowning deeply, Heejae glanced at Kylus, only to find him looking down at Heejae with a worried face.
“Uh… um… wa, water, please.”
It worked.
Gathering his composure, Heejae sat up, and Kylus slowly perched on the edge of the bed. Even when handing him the cup, he was careful not to let their hands touch—not even a fingertip. He was so tense, it was as if a single touch would cause a disaster.
“……”
“……”
Speaking carefully made things awkward. It was the same feeling as when cooperating with foreign agents duringGate suppression missions—just as embarrassing as struggling with an unfamiliar language, only now the face right in front of him was Ha Sehyeon’s.
Unaware of Heejae’s inner turmoil, Kylus simply thought the process of saving him had taken a toll on his body. Just as Heejae scrutinized Kylus, Kylus did the same to him.
