- The Fluffy Baby Fox Only Bites the Crazy Villain
- Chapter 45 - Do You Want to Follow That Guy?
“What? What nonsense are you talking about?”
When I responded in disbelief, Franz glared and got angry.
“In our tribe, offering food to someone means a marriage proposal. What are you all doing when the fiancé is right here watching?!”
I made a sour face in disbelief. What kind of obscure culture is that?
Just then, Ron cheerfully smiled and placed his remaining meat on Franz’s plate.
“Franz, have my meat if you need more.”
“Ugh, meat from a mere man…”
Though Franz grumbled, he couldn’t resist the meat and swallowed it in one bite.
“Shushu, there’s sauce on your mouth.”
Karden leaned slightly towards me and tried to wipe the sauce from my mouth with a napkin.
Even when I was a fox, he would always wipe anything that got stuck in my fur after eating.
Out of habit, I unconsciously pushed out my lips, and his fingers lightly touched my lower lip.
It felt so hot that I reflexively turned my head away.
When I avoided him, Karden’s hand hesitated. His face was expressionless as usual, making it hard to read his emotions.
Surely he’s not hurt by that?
“I-It’s fine. I’ll do it myself.”
I hurriedly grabbed a napkin and rubbed my lips hard.
Now that I was human, the actions Karden usually did naturally felt embarrassing and awkward.
An uncomfortable silence fell between Karden and me.
Fortunately, the others seemed too busy with their own conversations and meals to notice the awkward atmosphere between us.
“I’m done eating.”
Franz put down his fork and knife. His plate was completely empty.
Scary guy. He must have eaten an entire cow by himself.
Franz elegantly wiped his mouth with a napkin. He had the dignity of a young nobleman from a prestigious family. How annoying.
“I’m telling you in advance, I’m leaving tomorrow.”
“Wait, really?”
I asked urgently in surprise. Franz calmly nodded.
“The migration time has been set for tomorrow. Since I’ve become the next leader of the Ulpes tribe, I need to lead them.”
“You’re the next leader?”
Good heavens. This greedy, irritable, grumbling rude fox is going to lead the Ulpes tribe.
I should seriously worry about the future of the Ulpes tribe.
Franz stared at me intently with his silver eyes.
Since when did he look at me with such eyes? Eyes burning with persistent and desperate longing.
Franz, what exactly do you want from me?
After Franz’s announcement of departure, the cheerful atmosphere at the table turned cold.
I deliberately set down my teacup with a clinking sound.
“Why are you only telling us now that you’re leaving tomorrow?”
My tone came out disappointed without me realizing it. Franz rested his chin on his hand and stared at me.
His sharp gaze seemed to try to pierce through to my true feelings.
“Whether I leave now or later, will you follow me?”
I had never thought about it. No, honestly, I enjoyed being with Franz.
This feeling might be because I’m a fox shapeshifter. Whether due to instinctive closeness or not, being with Franz feels like being with a close friend.
But I knew. That this half-hearted game of friendship couldn’t last long.
Perhaps reading my hesitation, Franz’s lips curved up crookedly.
“I’ll wait for your answer. You have until tomorrow.”
Rising from his seat, Franz turned his gaze to Karden.
His eyes were still cold and full of wariness when looking at him.
“Human food is decent enough. Next time, I’ll treat you to our tribe’s food. Raw meat of course, not cooked.”
Karden frowned and replied coldly.
“I’ll just take the thought.”
When Franz was about to leave, everyone looked flustered. Ron hurriedly stood up from his seat.
“Mr. Franz, are you really leaving?”
Ron’s face was full of worry. He must have grown attached to Franz in this short time.
For Ron, who was still just a boy, this sudden farewell must be quite unsettling.
Franz glanced at Ron.
“Yes, little mage. The tea was good.”
“Mr. Franz, you’ll come back for tea again, right?”
Wait, when did these two become tea buddies?
A kind, bright, and innocent young mage and a prickly, sharp-tongued silver fox? They don’t match at all.
I looked back and forth between them in amazement.
I wasn’t the only one intrigued – others were watching the two with interested expressions.
Ron’s freckled nose had turned red. He looked at Franz with teary puppy-dog eyes.
Seeing that made me anxious.
Franz, if you have any sense, at least pat Ron’s head, or say something kind.
“Hah, you really are high maintenance.”
Franz sighed with an annoyed expression, then approached Ron. He patted Ron’s curly hair roughly.
“Don’t stay up all night studying, go to bed early and eat well. You won’t grow taller otherwise.”
“Mr. Franz, are you perhaps worried about me?”
“What?”
Franz snorted as if he found it absurd.
Ron bravely wiped his eyes with his sleeve. Then he showed his characteristic bright and innocent smile.
As expected, Ron’s smile is like sunshine. It makes me feel good every time I see it.
“Don’t worry. Next time we meet, I’ll be taller than you, Mr. Franz.”
Our Ron is quite something. He even knows how to feed others while smiling.
Franz’s expression immediately crumpled.
“Look at this little runt. You think you can surpass me?”
Franz and Ron’s bickering made them look like close brothers. The sight made me smile broadly.
Franz shook his head and stood up from his seat.
“Alright. I should go now.”
Franz got up from the table and headed towards the window.
With his hands in his pockets and his head tilted askew, he bid farewell to everyone.
“Thanks for everything. Take care, all of you.”
Franz came up to me and whispered in my ear in a low voice, just for me to hear.
“Come out to the city gates. I’ll tell you the truth about your power.”
Franz turned around and instantly transformed into a magnificent silver fox. Then he disappeared through the open window.
What should I do? I pondered for a moment whether to follow Franz or not.
I had a feeling that if I let Franz leave like this, I might never see him again.
The banquet hall was filled with an awkward atmosphere. Everyone had stopped eating and was talking in low voices.
After hesitating, I carefully rose from my seat. Then Karden’s large hand grabbed my wrist.
“Shuvelia, where are you going?”
“Um, can I step out for a moment? I want to see Franz off at the city gates. There’s also something I want to ask him.”
Karden’s expression stiffened, and his eyes narrowed. He stared at me with suspicious eyes.
“That guy… Do you want to follow him?”
“What? No! I’ll be right back. Really!”
I opened my eyes wide, trying my best to convey my sincerity.
Karden, who had been staring at me intently, let out a soft sigh.
“Ron cast a tracking spell on Shushu right now. So we can prepare for any contingency.”
“Yes. Understood, Your Grace.”
Ron hurriedly stood up and came over to me.
“Shushu, can I have your wrist for a moment? This won’t take long.”
I obediently held out my wrist.
As Ron waved his hand and chanted the spell, a blue magic circle appeared above my wrist. The magic circle emitted a soft light as it absorbed into me.
Ron looked up at me with a bright smile.
“Ah, now I feel relieved. We can find Shushu wherever you are now.”
Even though Karden’s overprotectiveness is extreme, I can’t help it when Ron worries about me like this.
“Thank you, Ron. That makes me feel secure.”
I was about to lift my dress skirt and run but hesitated.
With these high heels and flowing dress, I’ll be too late to catch up with Franz.
As I concentrated, my silver hair floated in the air. At the same time, white smoke enveloped me, and I instantly transformed into a baby fox.
I swished my tail and looked back at Karden.
“Well then, I’ll be going now, Your Grace.”
As I was about to dash out of the banquet hall energetically, my body suddenly lifted into the air, causing me to flail my short legs helplessly.
Before I knew it, I was caught in Karden’s large hands.
“Huh? Let go! Kyang!”
