- The Fluffy Baby Fox Only Bites the Crazy Villain
- Chapter 6 - The Secret of the Villain's Family
I wondered what kind of people Karden’s family members were. Curious, I examined the other portraits in detail.
The Helleide family members all seemed to have come out of the same mold, with both men and women having black hair, blue eyes, and perfect, sculpture-like beauty.
Among them, a charismatic and dignified middle-aged man stood out. He looked so much like Karden that one might mistake it for a prediction of what Karden would look like in middle age. Checking the nameplate on the portrait, it was none other than Karden’s father, Grand Duke Kavel Helleide.
The records showed that the former Grand Duke Kabel had passed away 10 years ago.
Ten years ago would have been when Karden was 17. He would have still been at an age when he needed his father’s guidance.
That wasn’t all. Even his immediate family and close relatives were all deceased.
The most recent death, a year ago, was Karden’s third uncle, Bert Helleide. He was a middle-aged man with a strong impression and a scar on his forehead.
It was said that the Helleide family members, both men and women, grew up fighting monsters from a young age.
Does that mean Karden is the only surviving member of the Helleide family now?
He may be a villain, but that’s pitiful. To have no family or relatives left.
As I stood in front of the portrait with my tail drooping, Karden approached.
“Shushu, you’re quite curious. Are the portraits fascinating to you?”
“Kying. Whimper. (Villain, you’ve been through a lot alone. I understand why you’ve become twisted.)”
I looked up at him with teary eyes full of sympathy and whimpered.
Karden’s brow furrowed slightly.
“Why are you looking at me with such pitying eyes? Cotton ball.”
Karden observed the line of maids with a sharp gaze. The maids lowered their eyes in fear.
“Anyone who has experience raising dogs or cats, step forward.”
A maid from the end of the line cautiously came forward. She was a woman in her 20s with a simple appearance and freckles on the tip of her nose.
“What’s your name?”
“Be-Betty, sir.”
“Can you take good care of it? It’s an untamed wild fox.”
“I’ve worked on a farm before, so I can take good care of animals.”
Betty answered, trembling with her hands clasped together.
You cruel villain. How harshly have you been treating people all this time?
With a mind to give him a taste of his own medicine, I bit his hand with a chomp. I didn’t draw blood, just wanted to scare him a little.
“Your Grace! Are you alright?”
The old butler cried out in shock, and the other servants and maids didn’t know what to do.
Karden calmly raised the hand I was biting.
I was left dangling in the air, still biting his hand.
“Mmph, mmph (Hey, put me down! Put me down!)”
Karden, without even flinching an eyebrow, calmly twisted the corner of his mouth.
“Shushu, we’ll need to practice your biting properly. When you bite prey, you should draw blood.”
“Kwang? (What, are you mocking me?)”
Ugh, how frustrating. It was supposed to be a critical attack, but it didn’t even hurt him.
Just you wait. When my canines get sharper, I’ll really give you a taste of pain.
Karden handed me over to Betty’s arms.
“From now on, you’re Shushu’s dedicated maid. Wash this one thoroughly.”
Betty looked up in surprise. I was equally surprised.
I thought he was going to use me as a treatment, but he’s even assigning a dedicated maid?
What exactly is this villain plotting?
Karden gave me a brief glance before leaving with the butler.
As soon as the Grand Duke left, the maids surrounded me as if they had been waiting for this moment.
They all looked at me as if I was the cutest thing ever.
This is quite burdensome. I’m an introvert who gets shy easily.
“It’s so cute. A baby fox as adorable as a cotton ball!”
Betty crouched down in front of me and shyly met my gaze.
“Shushu, I look forward to taking care of you.”
“Ka-kaang? (Oh? Me too.)”
I instinctively bowed my head to Betty. The surrounding maids screamed in delight.
“Kyaa! It’s too adorable!”
Oh my, you startled me.
I looked up at the maids with round eyes.
The maids looked at me in wonder, not knowing what to do.
“Look, doesn’t it seem to understand human speech? It doesn’t seem like an ordinary fox.”
“You’re right. It seems like a smart and clever fox.”
An older-looking maid among them crossed her arms and smiled meaningfully.
“For the Grand Duke to suddenly bring in a wild fox as a pet, it must be a special fox, don’t you think?”
Surrounded by the maids and hearing their flood of words, my ears hurt and my head throbbed.
I didn’t know human voices could be this loud, perhaps due to a fox’s superior hearing.
I curled up into a ball and covered my ears with my fluffy tail.
Just then, someone gently picked me up. It was Betty.
“That’s enough. You’ll scare Shushu. Sudden loud noises might frighten it. So please be careful, everyone.”
Betty, who was trembling in front of Karden just moments ago, was now calmly and firmly protecting me.
I’ve gained a new respect for you, Betty.
Betty carried me to the bathroom and carefully washed me. She cleaned my fur with soft soap bubbles and even massaged my head fur.
“Kaaang (The water is so nice and warm.)”
I smiled dreamily, resting my face on the porcelain bowl.
Seeing my expression, Betty smiled.
“Oh my, Shushu likes warm baths. I’ll give you many from now on.”
“Kaang. (Thank you.)”
I rubbed my heart-shaped nose against Betty’s palm.
“I’m so happy that Shushu likes it. It’s an honor to serve you.”
Betty thoroughly dried my body with a towel, brushed me, and even sprayed me with fragrant rose perfume.
To be honest, my reflection in the mirror was too cute and lovable.
Snow-white fluffy fur, black eyes, a cute heart-shaped nose, adorable paws, and a lush tail.
“Ah. Shushu is too lovable. I’ve never seen such a cute fox before.”
Betty sighed, clasping her hands together. The other maids also rushed to praise me.
“My heart aches every time Shushu tilts its head.”
“It’s like watching a doll move.”
The maids were happy as they brushed my fur. I felt my little nose swell with pride at their compliments.
Hmm, I guess I am pretty cute.
Just then, one maid spoke with a serious expression.
“Isn’t it strange that the Grand Duke brought a pet? This has never happened before.”
“You’re right. He’s usually so cold and never shows his emotions.”
“Did you see how he looked at Shushu? I’ve never seen the Grand Duke with such a gentle expression.”
Don’t be fooled by that guy’s actions. He clearly brought me here to use me as a treatment for magic overload.
“Shushu, we’re going to the Grand Duke’s office now.”
Betty carried me in her arms towards the office. Armed soldiers were guarding the door in front of the office.
As expected, the security is tight. It’ll be difficult to escape easily.
“I’m Shushu’s dedicated maid. The Grand Duke ordered me to bring Shushu to the reception room.”
When Betty explained her business to the soldiers, their gazes lingered on me for a moment.
The soldiers had expressionless faces with a cold and ruthless atmosphere like statues.
My ears drooped involuntarily, feeling intimidated. Somehow, it’s scary.
“Understood. Please enter.”
As we entered the office, a cozy reception room furnished with tables and sofas appeared. There were two doors on either side of the reception room.
Betty whispered to me in a small voice.
“The left is the conference room, and the right is the Grand Duke’s working office. Be careful not to enter without permission, Shushu.”
“Kiang. (I got it.)”
When I responded, Betty let out a small scream of delight.
“Oh, how lovely. You’re so cute. Our Shushu is really clever.”
Betty calmed her excitement and then set me down on the red carpet. She also placed a soft cushion on the floor for me to sit comfortably.
“I’ll bring your meal. Please wait a moment, Shushu.”
After Betty left the reception room, I pretended to roll around on the cushion. So that even if someone suddenly entered the reception room, I wouldn’t be suspected.
I licked my fur with my tongue and stroked my fur with my front paws.
After roughly imitating a fox and confirming there was no sign of anyone, I sniffed around, smelling the surroundings.
I wondered if there was a hole to escape from this reception room. There didn’t seem to be any way out except the entrance.
I circled around the reception room, but couldn’t find any place to escape. I couldn’t jump out the window either.
“Grrrr! (What if I end up becoming the villain’s pet with no way out?)”
I vented my frustration by gnawing on the wooden leg of the table. With my small canines and weak jaw strength, I could only leave small indentations.
“Grrrr. (You think I’ll give up? I’ll definitely escape from this den of evil.)”
As I was threatening the table leg, determined to escape…
“Shushu, what are you chewing on?”
“Kaang!”
I was so startled that I jumped up. In the process, I hit my head on the table.
“Whimper! Kying! (Ouch! It hurts so much!)”
I rolled around on the carpet, whimpering. My head hurt so much that tears welled up.
“Shushu, are you okay?”
Karden hurriedly picked me up and blew gently on the top of my head.
The warm breath made the throbbing pain subside a little.
“I should call a doctor after all. Is anyone out there!”
As Karden urgently called out towards the reception room door, Betty rushed in with a food tray.
“Your Grace, what’s the matter?”
“Shushu hit its head on the table. There might be damage to its skull. Call a doctor immediately.”
“Kying. (I’m fine, really.)”
I looked up at Karden, gently biting his sleeve. Karden furrowed his brow slightly.
“Are you sure it doesn’t hurt?”
I nodded my snout vigorously. A baby fox’s skull is tough, so it didn’t hurt much.
Betty turned pale and repeatedly bowed her head to Karden. She was trembling, clasping her hands together and keeping her head lowered.
“I’m so sorry. I should have taken better care of Shushu.”
I quickly shook my head. I couldn’t bear to see kind Betty get scolded because of me.
I turned my head sharply and glared fiercely at Karden, baring my canines.
“Grrrr. (If you scold Betty, I won’t let you off easy. I’ll bite your leg instead of the table leg.)”
