The Genius Professor Wants An Easy Life - Chapter 7.1
Why is that?’
Listening to that voice, there was an inexplicable sense of reassurance.
“Open your eyes and look straight.”
Van raised a hand.
“I’ll show you a new horizon.”
Simultaneously, Paaaf!!! A colossal star ascended, accompanied by a brilliant light.
‘A magic circle?’
It was the seal formation that had bound the Lord of Darkness!
‘How? An interference in the laws of the star?’
The expression on the face held an air of disbelief.
The magic array physically anchors the star of mana and activates it as an internal power source.
It’s stable, yet highly resistant to external interference. Especially for a high-level formation capable of restraining the Lord of Darkness, the difficulty is even greater.
However, Van was accomplishing this seemingly impossible task with a nonchalant expression.
But that wasn’t all.
“Disappear. Insignificant specter.”
With that arrogant command.
Whooosh!
The star in the magic array surged.
The nature of the star changed.
Not just a simple ‘restraint,’ but ‘destruction.’
‘A change in the laws of the realm!!’
The pupils of Cal’s eyes widened as if they were about to tear apart.
Beyond mere interference with the laws of the star, it was altering them. The level of difficulty, needless to say, was beyond measure.
‘What? Am I seeing things?’
But it wasn’t an illusion.
The magic array, transformed into a destructive force, began to tear apart the Lord of Darkness.
Kraaaaaaaaaaah!!!
The Lord of Darkness screamed, but it was futile.
Like cutting off the breath of a trapped beast, the magic array destroyed the core of the Lord of Darkness.
“Th-This can’t be.”
Looking at Van through fading vision due to mana depletion, Cal was bewildered.
Van remained unchanged.
There wasn’t even a hint of doubt or wavering in the face of this seemingly unbelievable miracle he was bringing about.
Yet, strangely, that steadfastness seemed to assert that all of this was indeed reality.
As your elder brother, I’ll show you my greatness. You’ll come to admire me.
Those words brushed by as Cal lost consciousness for the final time.

“I almost fxxxed up.”
My heart thumped wildly.
‘What’s with the 90.3% success rate? That was almost a failure!’
There are two strategies for capturing the Lord of Darkness.
First, capturing with force.
Almost impossible.
The more common method is manipulating and altering the magic array, just like what I’ve done before, to destroy the core.
‘After all, this magic array was originally designed to destroy the core of the Lord of Darkness, but it failed and became a sealing formation.’
It was because at least three protagonists with mage classes had to gather for a successful strategy.
I thought with my mastery of magic, it might be possible, but I immediately hit a wall.
‘I can’t recognize this spell at all.’
It was natural.
The knowledge of magic I’d accumulated was barely at a 3rd star ranked mage.
On the other hand, this magic array was created by combining the powers of 8th-star Archmages, so I had no clue about the type of spell used.
‘Darn it. What should I do? Should I run away?’
However, I shook my head.
‘No. I can’t give up.’
If I ran away, there was no way to acquire mana.
I couldn’t win against the Duke in a duel, and there was a high chance of being forced into a military or bureaucratic position.
‘For the sweet future I desire, I must win at all costs!’
Fortunately, there was Cal’s presence.
As I pondered over potential solutions, using Cal as a shield, things began to change.
‘…I’m starting to see the structure of the magic array.’
However, I still didn’t know what kind of magical spell had been used.
It was an issue of ‘knowledge.’
Even so.
‘…I think I have a rough idea of which star plays what role.’
Innately sees through the essence of magic!
Once again, I realized how much of a scam the Grand Practitioner’s abilities were.
‘But how do I transform it into a destruction spell?’
I didn’t know.
However,
‘It might work if I do it like this.’
It wasn’t a decision based on knowledge.
It felt more like an instinctual, animalistic feeling.
‘…Could this really be possible?’
There was no certainty.
But I had to try.
“Open your eyes and look straight. I’ll show you a new horizon.”
Amidst the charismatic facade of the Dark Flame Dragon’s form, he barely managed to succeed in annihilating the Lord of Darkness!
‘…Is it over?’
It seemed so.
That was the message that came to mind.
Hidden Quest ‘Banishment of the Lord of Darkness’ has been achieved!
A reward is granted!
Acquiring scattered ‘mana’!
‘Done!’
I cheered inwardly.
The Lord of Darkness was an astral entity composed entirely of mana.
Banishing it allowed me to obtain a significant amount of mana comparable to powerful elixirs.
The amount of mana acquired was equivalent to what mages would obtain after ten years of cultivation—a substantial quantity.
‘But, given my mana insensitivity, I can’t expect that level of effect.’
As mentioned earlier, my absorption capability was only about 1/100th of that of mages.
Even with this acquisition, it barely exceeded what a month’s worth of mana would be for them, not even close to the ten-year mark.
‘Even this much is a tremendous amount for me.’
It was roughly half of what an average 1st-tier apprentice mage would possess.
Though one might call it “just,” it held significant meaning for me.
Achieved the title of ‘Vanquisher of the Lord of Darkness’!
The charisma of the Dark Flame Dragon becomes even more potent!
I wore a bemused expression.
The charisma boost was unnecessary as it was already overflowing.
‘Ah… Now, let’s go in and rest. Well done.’
However, there was something I had forgotten.
“You… What in the world have you been up to?”
A voice filled with eerie anger.
A middle-aged man with a gaze as sharp as a blade appeared, looking at me as though he could kill me.
It was the Duke!
