The Innocent Mage's Spellbinding Nights - Chapter 18
The White Tower magicians often thought of Vine as a rough and stubborn person because of his rugged appearance and insistence on mastering the sword despite being a magician.
However, Vine was surprisingly perceptive and possessed an acute sense akin to a wild animal’s. In short, he had a good intuition.
“Why doesn’t Senior Sister like me?”
Hesed asked.
“You’re not asking because you don’t know,” Vine replied, slightly furrowing his brow.
There wasn’t any particular reason. It was just that Hesed was so different from the gentle and lovely Irina, like oil and water, that they couldn’t mix.
“I’m very depressed, Senior Brother.”
“Depressed? More like annoyed.”
“Annoyed? I’m greatly discouraged. How could I ever be angry at Senior Sister?”
Vine watched Hesed, who was pouting and grumbling. The power of love was truly great, making Hesed, who was comparable to the Red Tower Master Hisran or the Blue Tower Master Siord in terms of recklessness, play the role of the Vice Master of the White Tower.
“So, senior, why don’t you give some guidance to this depressed junior?”
Hesed’s request for ‘guidance’ was actually a request to be a target for venting his frustration.
Such an arrogant brat.
But Vine didn’t refuse the request.
“Fine, just be careful not to get that pretty face of yours hurt.”
As Vine threw out the stern warning, he unleashed dozens of wind blades.
“Senior is too harsh on his only junior.”
“…Where did you sell your conscience?”
“My conscience only works in front of my Second Senior Sister.”
Shrugging, Hesed created a whirlwind that scattered the blades towards Vine. Using the distraction, he fashioned numerous spears from the surrounding sand.
Sand Spear! The sand, reinforced with mana, was harder than most stones.
Even a regular stone could be dangerous when thrown, and these sharpened spears aimed at vital spots made for a terrifying sight.
“Good.”
Vine murmured quietly, showing no sign of fear, as he drew the sword hanging from his waist. The Haste spell made his steps light and swift.
Vine used a shield spell fixed to his forearm like a shield, deflecting the sand spears. Protecting his vital spots and ignoring minor wounds, he moved like a wild beast.
Whoosh!
He didn’t just stop at defending against the attacks but also deflected some of the sand spears back towards Hesed, keeping him on edge. While Vine’s swordsmanship was still developing, the precise wind magic imbued in his sword compensated for its shortcomings.
“Indeed, senior, this is good!”
Hesed’s lips curled into a slight smile. Enthusiastically, he created a whip made of crackling electricity in his hand.
Look at that. Preparing to whip his senior. Truly an arrogant junior.
Vine’s eyes narrowed.
Hesed was not only skilled in magic itself, but more importantly, he had an excellent ability to adapt to his opponent or the situation.
Just now, when Vine raised his sword and was about to launch an attack, Hesed interrupted his momentum by pulling out an electric-type spell. When it came to combat sense, even the Red Tower Master Hisran or the Blue Tower Master Siord had to concede a point to him.
For a moment, Vine glared at Hesed’s annoying, smiling face before quickly switching his iron sword to a dirt sword made of magic. Of course, this was something Hesed had anticipated. The electric whip quickly transformed into a chain and clashed with the dirt sword.
The chain wrapped around the sword like a giant serpent. As Vine hesitated momentarily, thinking that a swordsman must not lose his sword, the chain extended and tried to bind his hand.
“Senior Brother, it might be better to focus on one thing rather than trying everything half-heartedly,” Hesed suggested.
“Do you fight with your mouth?” Vine retorted.
“Hey, I’m just giving you some advice out of concern, Senior Brother.”
Hesed shrugged and reinforced the chain. As the magic in the chain clashed fiercely with the magic in the dirt sword, sparks suddenly flew between them.
Sensing the familiar magic, both Hesed and Vine took a step back and raised their shields. It was a wise choice.
Whoosh.
The sparks quickly flared up, threatening to scorch them both. If they hadn’t blocked it with their shields, they would have suffered severe burns, difficult to heal even with Irina’s exceptional healing magic.
“Vine, if a junior acts up, you need to beat him within an inch of his life! Why do you just laugh it off? Are you his emotional garbage can?”
A sharp voice rang out, and the owner of the voice, with her red hair flying, appeared on the scene.
The best fire magician in the West. If she hadn’t been rooted in this region for so long, she would have joined the Red Tower. This was Scarlet.
“First Senior Sister, you’re as fiery as ever today.”
“And our youngest is as arrogant as ever. They say the best medicine for an arrogant junior is a good beating!”
Scarlet glared, her eyes wide, and with flames in her hands, she leaped toward Hesed. Hesed’s brow furrowed slightly.
“Hey, changing to a new opponent without warning is a bit…”
“You damn rascal, die!”
Vine shook his head and stepped back a bit further. Unlike before, Hesed now had a troubled expression as he defended against Scarlet’s attack.
Of course, if the two of them fought properly, the outcome was clear.
Scarlet, being the first disciple taken in by the former Tower Master, possessed brilliant talent.
But of course, Hesed was the ‘once-in-a-century genius’ praised by many in the White Tower.
