“Yeah, like the writer said, I would have normally. But Kim Chunyong, he’s done such a good job at the beginning that it’s annoying but bearable.”

“Really… You seem to like him.”

“You saw it too, what that guy does. How could people like us not appreciate it?”

Lee Hyeon Jeong nodded, silently agreeing with his words.

It wasn’t a lie; Kim Chunyong really did have a knack for making good television.

The main PD rolled the candy from one cheek to the other, counting on his fingers.

“His shameless attitude towards Moon Yun Ha, the unique song arrangement that fetched him bizarre scores, catching Jin Dasol’s eye, securing the center position for the dance break with his dance skills. All that makes for a fantastic narrative. He’s got that thing, that spark.”

It was more than just looks or talent. It was his way of speaking, his actions, something explosive at crucial moments.

“…He has star quality, Kim Chunyong.”

Pleased with Lee Hyeon Jeong’s response, the main PD smiled contently.

“Exactly that.”

After all, the public doesn’t just want someone who is good-looking, can sing well, or dance well; they want a star.

It’s an undeniable truth, no matter how much one might try to argue against it.

In that sense, Kim Chunyong was an excellent prospect.

‘We’ll have to see if this really works on air, but anyway…’

“The team with the best footage right now is his, right? How about the other teams?”

“Ah, the other teams. Well.”

Prompted by Joo PD, Lee Hyeon Jeong momentarily shelved her thoughts about Kim Chunyong and contemplated the status of the other teams.

First, there was the team of August Entertainment’s ace, Son Jae Ha.

That team included another AG trainee, Jang Si Soo, and Bang Yu Chan, whom the production team had been paying attention to from the start.

‘Those two are doing well. Son Jae Ha chose his team members well.’

The rest were cooperatively working together, creating a generally good atmosphere and harmony.

If she had to pinpoint a characteristic, perhaps it was the dance member who kept trying to stand out during the dance break, giving Jae Ha some trouble.

Nonetheless, while not as notable as Kim Chunyong’s team, they were also creating a pretty decent narrative.

And then there was the problematic figure causing headaches for the assistant directors in the editing room.

The team included the Chinese trainee, Liu Wei.

Unlike Kim Chunyong’s positive impact, Liu Wei’s was problematic in a negative sense.

“Let’s leave it at that.”

“…….”

Exactly what Liu Wei had said or done, no one dared to cross him casually. Not daring meant not only avoiding verbal communication but also physical contact, any interaction at all.

What’s the essence of an idol survival program?

It’s about growing from a lesser self to a better one, the camaraderie among trainees, the desperate smiles for a moment of camera attention.

It’s all about creating narratives.

If one simply wanted to debut with good singing and dancing skills, they shouldn’t have joined such a survival show. They should have been pampered and nurtured by their company before being directly put on a music broadcast stage.

In that sense, Liu Wei’s tyrannical antics were not good for broadcasting. To make usable footage, it required painstakingly cutting and reassembling the video, almost frame by frame.

But the team couldn’t just not deal with it. Liu Wei was the pick directly linked to the investor and Director Shin!

Which meant, overtime work until they made something worthwhile.

‘I’ll need to add four extra shots to my coffee later. Damn it.’

As Lee Hyeon Jeong’s face grimaced at the thought, the main PD waved his right hand dismissively, as if he understood all too well.

“Enough, enough. I get it. For now, Director Shin isn’t in Korea, so we can make it as we think fit. Are you editing the trailers right now?”

“Ah, yes. We’ve almost finished the first draft, and we’re working on the second and the first episode.”

“I’ll come and check later. You go back to the dorms and get some personal interviews. Make them provocative. Get a lot of footage.”

“…….”

“…….”

They both gave each other a thumbs-up and left the lounge.

Two and a half days until the first trailer of “Targeting Star” goes out.

And only two days left for the trainees’ first stage.
