The Monster's Room - Chapter 2
Marie tried to stay positive.
The contract with the SCP Foundation was clear. She was to ‘succeed’ in managing a specific area for a set period. If she did well, they promised a new identity and a stable life. They had dangled an unbelievable carrot in front of her, trying to persuade her…
<Moving to Area F-49.>
The low hum of machinery filled the air.
Marie took a deep breath as the entire room she was waiting in began to move. It was an elevator. Realizing that this entire enclosed space was an elevator, she swallowed nervously. Her ears felt blocked and her body felt like it was floating.
Although it felt like they were descending quickly, the time seemed long, suggesting the scale of this place was massive.
<Arrived at Area F-49. Please proceed with the next procedure.>
Before she could even adjust, a stern, mysterious voice echoed from an invisible speaker.
Marie sighed and stood up. The metal door that had been tightly shut opened to reveal what looked like a locker room. Inside were protective suits, gloves, and boots, indicating that she needed to change into these garments.
<Please proceed with the next procedure.>
The stern voice urged her on.
Marie hesitated, then removed her clothes and put on the protective suit. It looked thick and durable, but it was also quite uncomfortable. Once fully dressed, the screen embedded in the wall lit up with text as the voice continued.
<Door opening. D-1705, proceed to F-49.>
‘How considerate,’ Marie thought bitterly.
She was fed up with situations that never went as planned. Regardless, the locker room wall she hadn’t realized was a door opened, revealing a white corridor. Hesitant, she stumbled and twisted her ankle, making things even harder.
<<F-49>>
As she massaged her aching ankle and stood up, she noticed a sign on the wall reading F-49. It seemed this was the area she was supposed to manage.
<Please proceed with the next procedure.>
Area F-49 was composed of a series of corridors.
The floor was so polished that Marie’s reflection in the protective suit appears distorted. The ceiling, while not too high, wasn’t low enough to feel claustrophobic, giving the place an odd feeling—like a corridor straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Or rather, was it not just like it, but truly a part of such a setting?
Marie felt a cold sweat trickling down her back. How did she end up in a place like this? A groan of frustration hit the roof of her mouth.
<Proceed with the next procedure…>
“I’m going. I’m going.”
The voice didn’t allow her a moment’s pause. Expressing her frustration, Marie glared at the screens sporadically embedded in the corridor walls. The screens displayed text and arrows indicating the next procedure.
Stand in front of SCP-%^@2, the second of the five rooms lined up in the corridor.
“…2?”
The serial number on the screen was obscured except for the last digit. Marie’s gaze shifted to the sign next to the entrance of the first room.
<<Serial Number: SCP-▉▉▉1>>
This one was even blacked out as if erased with a marker. Tentatively checking the sign for the second room, which was her mission target, she saw that it too had its serial number blacked out with a marker.
The other rooms were similar.
Did they make these corrections in a hurry?
Tilting her head, Marie took out the provided tablet and tapped on it. The tablet’s screen was acting through her gloves, and after a few taps, the details of F-49 appeared.
SCP-▉▉▉1
SCP-▉▉▉2
SCP-▉▉▉3
SCP-▉▉▉4
SCP-▉▉▉5
“…”
Perhaps it was encountering one bizarre situation after another, but Marie felt as though she was floating in a nightmare after confirming the blacked-out text.
Ignoring the unsettling feeling, she stood in front of the entrance to the second room. This was her destination.
<SCP-▉▉▉2 Door opening.>
At this point, Marie still thought her life was just incredibly unlucky.
But soon after…
“Ugh, mmmph!”
She realized that she wasn’t just unlucky; she had fallen into the middle of a hellish nightmare.
Case 1: Transparent Jelly Eraser
Thunk.
As Marie entered the room, she flinched at the sound of the door closing behind her. The steel containment door looked unusually cold and heavy against the backdrop of the stark white room.
Swallowing nervously, she turned her gaze to the center of the room. There, incongruously, was a marble bathtub.
The instructions for the mission were simple.
Fill the bathtub with the provided bottled water.
It seemed too simple to be true, but that was all there was to it. It was then that the tablet suddenly lit up with a notification. Marie frowned as she checked the contents.
[Transparent Jelly Eraser]
Serial Number: SCP-▉▉▉2
Class: ▉▉▉▉
Special Containment Procedures: …
The information only appeared after the door had closed behind her, and it wasn’t even complete. The serial number was still obscured, and the class was not visible. It seemed that her security clearance was too low to access full details.
What Marie was able to glean was that the entity in this room was called the ‘Transparent Jelly Eraser’ along with a few important precautions:
– Provide at least 10mL of moisture daily.
– Do not make loud noises to provoke it.
– Evacuate immediately if SCP-▉▉▉2 starts moving on its own.
