The Nanny of House Herzen - Chapter 43
They had been traveling all day, but the carriage came to a stop. It was still midday.
Opening her eyes in confusion, Evelyn saw that Carius was already awake.
“We’re not there yet….are we?”
She asked cautiously and he chuckled.
“Did you think we were going to travel all day without eating? We left in such a hurry from Lady Celsius’ place that we didn’t have a proper meal.”
So… they had stopped at an appropriate village along the way.
For Evelyn, it was, of course, a new place. She had grown up in the south, married into the southwest, and had never traveled to other regions.
The place where the carriage had stopped was an extravagantly luxurious restaurant. Standing at the entrance, Evelyn felt a strange sensation.
If she had ever entered a restaurant before, it was as the daughter of a Count or as the wife of a Marquis.
But now, she didn’t know what role she was stepping into. She couldn’t claim to be there as a nanny since she didn’t have the child with her.
Carius seemed to sense her hesitation and extended his hand as if offering an answer.
“Shall we go in?”
His hand, now gloved, was gentlemanly.
No master would escort a nanny in such a manner. Evelyn hesitated, then finally placed her hand in his, urged by his expectant gaze.
She wore the former Duchess’s dress, but she had no gloves or hat, making her feel less than a proper noblewoman.
Though she was just a servant, her bare hands embarrassed her. She even regretted cutting her hair.
However, Carius didn’t seem to mind any of this. He led her inside and seated her opposite him, equal in every way. He opened the menu and asked her preferences.
Evelyn felt at a loss.
If she ordered properly, it might reveal her noble upbringing.
To explain her lineage to him would mean revealing her marriage to Marquis Luke, the fact that he had tried to kill her, and that he would likely try again if he knew she was alive.
As clueless as she may be, she knew Carius wouldn’t give her up to the Marquis, but it would certainly be a complication for him.
However, the moment of confusion was brief.
Carius placed the order with the waiter, then added simply.
“The lady will have the same as me.”
Tension hung in the air as the food arrived. Evelyn picked up her utensils, following his lead.
Halfway through the meal, she realized she was eating a course meal quite naturally. For someone who had barely secured a job as a wet-nurse due to her ability to produce milk, this behavior was out of place.
Carius should have found it odd, yet he remained unbothered. She should probably be grateful for his lack of attention to detail.
The meal ended without her truly tasting it. They returned to the carriage, and Carius seemed in good spirits by the meal.
As soon as the carriage began moving, he lowered the shades and subtly began to unfasten the front of Evelyn’s dress.
“I’m still…okay…”
Evelyn mumbled, avoiding his gaze. But he nuzzled his nose against her exposed neck.
“Do you not want this?”
It wasn’t that she didn’t want it, and she wouldn’t dare say no. As her pale chest was exposed, he immediately buried his face in it.
“Hmm…”
Even just his tongue flicking her n–ple made Evelyn bite her lip.
Carius chuckled softly and used one hand to explore her lips. He pressed her lower jaw to make her open her mouth and then pushed two fingers inside.
“Mmph…”
“Bite them instead.”
Now that she thought about it, his usual spicy scent was absent.
Carius began sucking on her breast. Evelyn, too timid to bite his fingers, let out a moan instead.
“…Ah.”
He let go of her n–ple, his furrowed brows showing clear displeasure.
“I told you I don’t want anyone else hearing your sounds. Bite properly.”
With no other choice, she gently bit down on his fingers with her front teeth.
Carius sucked her breast for a long time, just like a baby. Saliva dripped from the corners of her mouth as she held his fingers in her mouth.
When she tried to wipe it away, he firmly grasped her wrist, preventing her. Only after he finished sucking both breasts did he begin to lick the saliva off her chin.
He pulled his fingers from her mouth, then deeply inserted his tongue and twirling it around.
“Ah…”
As Evelyn panted, he lightly tapped her cheek with his fingertips, then clumsily but gently retied the ribbons on her chest, covering her up.
“Starting today, come to my room every night.”
Evelyn, with tears welling up under her eyes, nodded.
The carriage rattled on. The sight of his dark hair always left her feeling dazed and confused.
But it wasn’t an unpleasant feeling. In fact, she liked it.
* * *
“Wait here for a moment.”
It was dark when they reached the Herzen estate.
Evelyn’s heart raced with the shamelessness of her return, while Carius stepped out of the carriage alone leaving her. Perhaps he felt it would be awkward to be seen by the employees bringing her back so openly.
Peeking through the window, she saw him speaking with the steward who had come to greet him.
The steward was one thing, but how would she face the head maid?
Evelyn let out a deep sigh.
