The Nanny of House Herzen - Chapter 46
As Evelyn reflected on the previous night, Carius woke up. Their eyes met, and she suddenly felt embarrassed. She closed her eyes, only for his soft lips to brush her forehead.
A moment later, a change of heart made her open her eyes again, not wanting to miss a single second of seeing him.
“Did you sleep well?”
The black eyes that had once terrified her now sparkled with kindness. His affection warmed her entire being. Evelyn smiled softly in response.
“Very well. I was afraid to open my eyes, thinking it was all a dream, but seeing you here proves it’s real.”
“Of course it is.”
He chuckled, kissing her neck, which was already turning red.
Despite only being reunited for three days, her milk had increased significantly, and even the slightest touch caused it to start leaking again.
Carius, familiar with the routine, latched onto her n–ple, eagerly drinking the milk that flowed.
“Oh… it hurts a little.”
He felt his thumb beneath her and teasingly commented.
“It might hurt a little, but it seems you like it a lot.”
“…Carius.”
She reached out for him, and he met her halfway, their lips meeting again. Despite having been intertwined all night, their kiss felt fresh and desperate, as if it was their first time.
As he softly caressed her lips with his tongue and fingers, his hand explored below, gently parting her swollen entrance.
“Hmm…”
Her tight entrance barely accommodated his finger. The heat spread from her core that had been overworked the whole night.
He pulled his finger out and began to massage her chest.
“Ah…”
Her soft moan made him lower his mouth to her n–ple again. He took in as much of the flesh as he could, savoring the sweet milk. He drank it down, showing no concern for the baby in the next room.
For a fleeting moment, he did think perhaps he had been hasty in sending the other wet nurse away.

“Johanson!”
It wasn’t until noon that Evelyn finally saw Johanson again.
“Mya-ha!”
The baby laughed, reaching out to her, making Evelyn regret leaving all the more.
She offered her her chest that had been sucked dry since the morning. The baby, having just had some baby food, playfully sucked without much interest.
“The young lady has developed quite a taste for fruit.”
A familiar voice made her look up to see the head maid.
“…Head maid.”
“You can call me Beth. Will you forgive my past rudeness?”
Evelyn apologized with tears in her eyes.
“I’m sorry, Beth… for not telling you anything, yet you still accepted me… and…”
Beth approached warmly, patting Evelyn’s back.
“Promise you won’t leave again. That’s all we ask.”
Evelyn nodded.
From the beginning, she had nowhere else to go. These warm-hearted people needed her, and she no longer wanted to run away.
The head maid shared untold stories about the Duke’s previous marriage.
“They weren’t really husband and wife. But I’ve worked here for over 30 years. I’ve known them since childhood, and I couldn’t let Lady Hestina’s baby die…”
“The Duke said he couldn’t find the baby’s father. Didn’t you hear anything?”
“If he was a responsible man, she would have told me… There must be a reason she never said anything until her last breath…”
Evelyn nodded understandingly.
“I’ll raise her. People forget quickly… In time, they might not find it strange. After all, I am blonde.”
“Thank you… Truly, thank you.”
Evelyn and the head maid shared tearful smiles.
“Don’t mention it, Beth. Johanson saved me. Without Johanson and you, I would’ve died in the rain half a year ago. You know that.”
The head maid, Beth hugged Evelyn, shedding tears. It had been a painful and difficult past for such a delicate, noble lady.
As a fellow woman, she wanted to offer her all the comfort she could. She felt this way from the first moment she saw Evelyn.
And yet, she couldn’t avoid adding a crucial point.
“Now, you must address me differently. You are to be our Madam.”

The next day, the dressmaker arrived.
Evelyn had to get fitted for numerous dresses, including her wedding gown.
She wanted to refuse, to say she didn’t need so many, or such fine ones… but she swallowed those words, forcing them down her throat.
Because Carius was also getting his clothes tailored. He didn’t have as many outfits made as she did, but he did get the finest attire tailored for their wedding.
Evelyn was glad by this and didn’t want to dampen Carius’s satisfied expression.
For a while, Carius was quite busy. Not only him, but every servant in the mansion was extremely busy as well. The whirlwind of wedding preparations had started before anyone had a chance to catch their breath.
The head maid was redecorating the bridal chamber, the steward was writing invitations, and the chef was already preparing the feast. Countless unfamiliar servants, who had been hidden away until now, emerged to tidy up the garden and polish the already pristine stairs and railings until they gleamed.
Whenever Evelyn found herself at a loss, unable to help, someone would appear to ask her one thing or another.
