The Nanny of House Herzen - Chapter 70
Carius finally latched back onto his wife’s b****t, roughly kneading the one he wasn’t sucking, biting and sucking without pause.
“Oh, oh…!”
Evelyn responded quickly to the stimulation, raising her knees and rubbing her lower body.
Her naked bottom was probably already showing wet marks again. With that thought, Carius continued his relentless caresses.
Her body, on the verge of childbirth, mistakenly took the signal and released milk.
3. The Young Duke of Herzen
Whether all that had a positive impact on the birth or it was simply time, no one could say. The next day, Evelyn went into labor.
The room, veiled in curtains, hardly exuded a hopeful atmosphere.
Both husband and wife shared the painful memory of a failed first birth, making labor feel like a terrifying ordeal. The joy they had felt the previous day over Evelyn’s milk coming in seemed like a distant memory.
Evelyn lay pale and trembling, emitting intermittent groans, while Carius anxiously paced around her bed. Finally, Beth intervened.
“Please, Master, you need to leave.”
Carius shot her a fierce glare, as if she had committed a grave offense. But Beth was not one to back down easily.
“Madam is strong, and so is the baby. The only thing frail here is your heart.”
“You…”
Just before Carius could unleash his anger, Evelyn interrupted while struggling to breathe.
“Beth, is right.”
Carius immediately moved closer, grasping her hand. It pained him to see her suffering, but he focused intently on her lips, eager to catch every word.
“I… I think I can do this,”
“What?”
Carius asked, his eyes filled with uncertainty as he looked down at her.
If he could, he would have erased the pregnancy and restored her to health. The thought of risking everything in the same room where they had lost Hestina made him feel utterly powerless.
Yet, Evelyn, despite her pain and the beads of sweat on her forehead, forced a smile.
“I will give you, an heir.”
Carius desperately wanted to shout that he didn’t need an heir. But he barely suppressed it. Saying such a thing now would only sadden Evelyn.
An experienced midwife approached with a reassuring smile.
“Of course, Madam. Today is the day you will give the lord a healthy heir, isn’t it?”
Evelyn managed a nod.
Carius struggled to suppress the urge to chase away the midwife and maid. They were crucial in helping Evelyn through this ordeal, no matter how much they irritated him at the moment. He pressed his dry lips together and looked down at Evelyn.
He whispered softly.
“Sure, if Johanson is to inherit Luke, we might need another Herzen child. But you matter far more to me than any heir. You know that, right?”
Evelyn nodded, her eyes brimming with tears. She squeezed his hand to reassure him before letting go.
Carius kissed her forehead one last time and reluctantly left the room. As he stepped out, he gestured to the midwife to follow him.
Once he left the room and moved a few steps out of earshot, he whispered.
“Remember, as I’ve said before repeatedly, losing the baby is acceptable. But not my wife. Never my wife.”
The man, who was usually so imposing and steadfast like a mountain, looked on the verge of collapse. When he suddenly grabbed her shoulder, the midwife nearly fainted from the shock.
Carius pleaded.
“If there’s any danger, save my wife….Please, save her.”
The midwife, wishing he would release her, bowed her head respectfully.
“I promise, my lord. I will do my best.”
Only then did Carius release his grip.
The midwife resolved to save the Duchess’s life at all costs. She felt she wouldn’t be able to leave this mansion alive otherwise.

“Waaaah! Waaaah!”
Carius couldn’t tell how many hours had passed before he finally heard the baby’s cry. The time had been unbearably long and excruciating. Now, he had no reason or strength left to wait any longer.
Carius burst through the door, only to be blocked by Beth.
“Hold on, my lord.”
“Move. I need to see Evelyn.”
“Waaaah!”
Inside, the room was filled with the loud cries of a baby. The sound was eerily similar to Hestina’s birth, filling him with sudden dread.
Back then, he hadn’t ignored Hestina’s labor. When he first heard the baby’s cries, he had secretly welcomed the birth of a child who might not even be his own.
Now, he was on the verge of losing his mind with anxiety, but Beth sighed and grabbed his arm.
In his impatience, he nearly shook her off but managed to calm himself at the last moment, clutching her arm instead.
“Why are you stopping me? Is she in pain? Is she hurt?”
