The One and Only Guide - Chapter 17
Harold was taken aback as Head Maid Joan handed over the key to the warehouse.
Who on earth was this woman?
Harold, with a surprised expression, pondered Jian’s identity with great effort.
Regardless, Jian swiftly collected her clothes and bag.
Worried that they might be covered in dust since they were stored in the corner of the warehouse, she was relieved to find them well-wrapped in cloth. Unexpectedly, they had been meticulously stored.
Jian untied the cloth covering her bag and retrieved the emergency kit.
Checking to see if there was anything else worth taking, all she found were minor items like handkerchiefs or tissues.
Jian turned to Harold and said, “Let’s go now.”
Turning on her heel, Jian methodically inspected the contents of the emergency kit.
Although in small quantities, there were compression bandages, a powdered hemostatic agent, and specialized medications like epinephrine. There was also a large-sized medical disinfectant gel which served as both sterilization and pain relief.
The disinfectant gel had to be applied, then the hemostatic agent had to be sprinkled, the wounds had to be sutured with a medical stapler, then the entire wound had to be bandaged. It was fortunate that Jian had taken basic emergency response classes from the Awakening Society.
After completing the medication check, Jian hurried to the location where the injured were gathered. Turning her attention to those with severe injuries, Jian quickly began caring for the wounded. The servants hesitated, glancing at Jian with a face that debated whether to stop her or let her proceed. But there were not enough hands to be able to do so. No one stepped forward to discourage Jian from helping.
Starting with relatively simple injuries, Jian gradually shifted her focus to those with more severe wounds. It wasn’t something she wanted to do voluntarily. Being a non-professional medical practitioner, Jian preferred to handle those with less severe injuries.
However, Jian’s hemostatic agent proved to be more effective than the herbal powder used by the locals. Even to Jian’s untrained eyes, the speed of hemostasis was noticeably different. Given the locals’ expertise in injuries and treatment, they couldn’t help but notice the stark difference. As a result, those with severe injuries naturally found their way to Jian.
A tidal wave of regret washed over her for not being a medical professional, but it didn’t matter as long as he started. Jian rolled up his arms and began to pick them off one by one.Jian rolled up her sleeves and began treating the people one by one.
Harold, with an astonished expression, watched Jian suturing the opened wounds. To him, unfamiliar with the medical stapler, it seemed as if Jian was suturing torn flesh with a strange tool. The conventional treatment method of tightly wrapping with bandages and waiting for natural healing was worlds apart from what Jian was doing.
A medical stapler, an antiseptic gel that acts as both a disinfectant and pain reliever, and a hemostatic agent. Even a small amount, about the size of a fingernail, was sufficient to cover most wounds, and the pain relief effect was exceptionally outstanding. Thanks to the remarkable progress in pharmaceuticals and medicine after the Gate incident on Earth.
However, what was natural on Earth was different on the Wisrode Continent. Even with simple medication, the difference was tremendous. The extraordinary effects of hemostasis, sterilization, and pain relief were only natural results.
As Jian’s treatment visibly stabilized the condition of those she attended to, Head Maid Joan, who had been anxiously observing Jian with a face full of concern, heaved a sigh of relief.
She knew Jian had been on edge, wary of everything around her. It was not unknown among those who knew of her existence as a Guide. When Jian refused to eat for three days, the Duke’s guest and the butler gathered for a small discussion.
Some even suggested forcibly feeding her, but fearing the Guide’s anger, it was never implemented. Nevertheless, Jian was considered an essential figure.
In truth, it would not have been strange if Jian took advantage of the chaotic and confusing situation to escape. After all, what person wouldn’t rebel against being dragged away and imprisoned for no good reason?
Joan didn’t say anything when Jian stood by and watched the wounded.
However, judging by Jian’s actions, it was evident that she valued others’ lives. Perhaps, with her flashing wisdom and compassion, she might govern the North as the former Duchess of the Norden Duchy did.
Head Maid Joan silently wished for it. Although she didn’t show it, her hope for the Guide was to establish roots in the North.
Then it happened. The attendants swiftly carried a fallen knight. Joan, witnessing the scene, widened her eyes. The person being carried due to injuries was her son. After marrying, she had three sons and two daughters, but all had lost their lives in the harshness of the North. Morgan, the youngest son, was the only one left.
“Morgan!”
Head Maid Joan dashed forward. However, Morgan’s face, already pale, indicated the severity of his injuries. The bleeding was severe, and he was already in a critical state. Clearly, Morgan was dying.
Joan, a dignified and rational native of the North, held a position as the head maid of the Duke’s mansion. However, facing the possibility of losing her last son, she was just a mother like any other.
“Oh! Morgan!”
