The Peerless Kobold - Chapter 239
Although Buster has a habit of playing matchmaker towards the late bloomers in our pack, he is different towards Lancer whom he likes… But indeed, as someone who isn’t attracted to the females in our pack, I can’t deny that I am leaning towards the humans of the opposite s-x more.
Well, Muriel is a pretty carefree person based on how leisurely she talked while sitting on my back…
“Dagger, I wonder what they’re talking about~”
“Wafan?” (What?)
My sister let Muriel drone on and on while cutely tilting her head to the side as we continued to advance further into the forest and arrived at the pack settlement by evening. There, we parted ways with Buster by the entrance as he went to retrieve the equipment he removed before transforming into a beast earlier in the day.
Naturally, my sister moved back to perch on top of my head and we headed to the village square while I roughly exchanged greetings with pack members who we met along the way.
“Fuwah, it’s developed so much already… There’s a reservoir, some houses… and even an elf!?”
Muriel, who had been admiring the developments made in the settlement since a while ago, was starstruck as she spotted the World Tree priestess who was busy healing an injured kobold pup.
“Uwaa, it’s really a Porcelain Elf! I wonder if they’d let me touch their ears.”
“Kuoruau…” (Knock it off…)
I gently bit at the hem of Muriel’s dress as she suspiciously wriggled her fingers. I used my snout to point at the leather bags attached to either side of my body when she looked in my direction.
“Hmm, should I take it off for you?”
Understanding my intention, Muriel removed the harness connecting the leather saddlebags for me. I then took our clothes into my mouth and hid behind the bushes with my sister and transformed back into our Wolf and Fox Kobold forms respectively.
We returned to the plaza after hurriedly putting on our clothes. As I rifled through our belongings for the mithril mask I used to communicate telepathically, my sister took some of the low-salt garlic butter and rye bread that I secretly purchased at the guild’s connecting tavern.
“Ruauou, woaa~n” (I’m going to mother’s place, okay~)
“…Woaao” (… Go ahead)
I was planning on having those as a snack to go with my drinks, but.. I let it go since she was going to give it to mother.
After putting on my mithril mask, I lightly tapped on Muriel’s shoulder while she looked fixedly at Listy, the elven priestess from earlier.
“Kuruuaoon guuwaoauu” [I can introduce you later if you want.]
“Uu, I’m kind of nervous… It’s my first time meeting an elf.”
Muriel looked a little fidgety as she waited for me to adjust my equipment. Meanwhile, Ax spotted us and wagged his tail as he happily came up to me. I then handed him the spinning tops I bought as souvenirs for the pups and asked him to hand it to them after I explained how they were played.
“Woaan, kuau wofuwafi?” (Got it. What’s this?)
Ax innocently tilted his head when I opened one of the cloth bags and took out a handful of the dried pasta. As always, this guy is so laid back.
“Waoruo auu guruo guruaoau.” [I figured we could eat it with the others as a late-night snack]
“Wauruoau~, gaouan!” (So it’s food~ Oh, by the way!)
With his ears perked up, Ax told me about how the residents of Viel village came by to greet us and left some apples and barley wine. Since the apples wouldn’t keep for long, they had to consume it right away, but it seems they left the barley wine for me.
(Hmm, I better ask Blazer for the finer details of this incident…)
Since Blazer was the more cautious of the two, I decided to hear his opinion on the matter later. After our conversation, I roughly carried the remaining luggage over my shoulders.
“Uwoouu, guuoan” [Sorry I made you wait, Muriel]
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” Muriel replied, a soft smile gracing her lips.
I matched Muriel’s pace as we made our way to the World Tree priestess whom she had been interested in since earlier. There, I introduced them to each other and we peacefully passed the afternoon with Muriel trying hard to convince Listy to let her touch her ears.
Later on, while my childhood friends and I were enjoying pasta with lightly salted steamed winter vegetables, I learned that Buster could also transform into a human, so I asked the elves to teach him the common language when they had the time.
After spending the next two days checking and making sure that everyone was well, I turned into a silver giant wolf again and carried both my sister and Muriel and set out for the town of Velheim, her hometown.
