She took a deep breath and fixed her disheveled hair, her mind racing with thoughts.
‘What? A merciful man? A kind person?’
It was laughable. If he were truly so, he wouldn’t have used the fact that she had used an imitation phallus against her. Instead, he would have persuaded her to confess, offering the sacrament of reconciliation.
Daphne scoffed, biting her lips as she picked at her nails.
‘This is the first time it’s been this late… I have no idea how he’s going to react.’

‘Could it be that the punishment will be him tormenting me for even longer than usual, rather than anything truly punitive?’

Lap her up longer than usual or leave her to pleasure herself with a toy — both of these were things that she felt ashamed of or had difficulty enduring. Both of these she would consider punishments.

Daphne, who somehow felt that she did not like either of these, furrowed her brows. She did not like herself for having such thoughts.
‘…Am I really that much of a pxrvxrt? My mind naturally came up with such obscene scenarios.’
She’d felt lustful before, but only briefly. She never had the kind of dirty thoughts that she had been having lately.
It seems the cardinal wasn’t just speaking nonsense after all. Could it be because of her being born under the Three Stars? But she didn’t sense anything like that from the other novices.
As Daphne’s thoughts reached that point, she lifted one corner of her mouth in a slight smirk.
‘Well, at least they’re not hypocrites like me.’
She was receiving her punishment for pretending to be devout in the name of the Holy Father, despite not truly believing in Him. She hadn’t followed Father’s teachings of loving and being thankful for her neighbors with a sincere heart. Even if they all were marked to be susceptible to the devil’s influence, leading a hypocrite like herself into corruption would have been easier than blowing one’s nose.
A bitter taste lingered in her mouth.
Swallowing a sigh, Daphne reached for the door handle, resolving to accept whatever actions Cardinal Theodore might take today, embracing it as a punishment.
…Creak.
She hesitated as the sound of water seeped from the small crack in the door.
‘Huh?’
The sound wasn’t unfamiliar.
Squish… squelch, squish…
‘What is that sound?’
If she hadn’t misheard, the noise was that of wet flesh rubbing against itself.
Squick, creak… squish, squelch.
It was only getting faster.
The source of the sound wasn’t far away. Without realizing it, Daphne held her breath, peering through the narrow gap in the door.
A large back came into view. The back, wrapped in dark cloth, twitched faintly.
The muscles along his shoulders and torso bulged and relaxed, following the deep ridges along his spine. As the wet flesh continued its rhythmic noise, the muscles’ movements grew more intense.
Then, with the sound of soft, stifled breaths, a head that had been tilted forward slowly turned at an angle. The shoulders followed the movement, shifting slightly as well.
His exquisite profile. The silver eyelashes, lowered, fluttered ever so slightly, and on his high, defined nose was a white object, carelessly clumped together.
Daphne, unable to even breathe, stared at his side profile before shifting her gaze to the object Theodore had pressed to his nose. The plain white fabric seemed oddly familiar.
‘Where have I… seen that before?’
It was definitely a fabric she recognized — very similar to the fabric of the underwear she had changed into this morning.
