Trigger Warning: Potentially distressing content pertaining to sexual harassment and graphic violence.

Was he a man who had been betrayed and hurt after having his loved one taken away? Anyway, please, Ella, just appear and take these men away.

It would be great if Ella fell for this secondary male character and let go of Richard.

Judy Esther looked up at the sky with a bitter expression. At that moment, her body was suddenly lifted off the ground.

“Eeek! Ahh!”

Judy Esther was so engrossed while standing in the middle of the road that she hadn’t noticed a carriage speeding towards her. A major accident almost occurred, but the silver-haired man with red eyes grabbed her by the waist and pulled her into his embrace, saving her.

The man’s chest was firm.

She escaped the accident thanks to the silver-haired man, but the streets were in chaos. The crowds were large due to the festival, and there were quite a few injuries.

“Well, there goes today’s luck!”

Judy Esther looked at the crumpled clover in her hand. She had clenched her fist so tightly that it was crumpled to the point of oozing. She had planned to take it home and use it as a bookmark, but now it was ruined.

On the other hand,

“Meeting me was luck itself.”

“Let’s go with that.”

Like the four-leaf clover she’d stumbled upon today, her life was saved by a chance encounter with a supporting character. If only she could avoid making a mess of her life like the crumpled up lucky leaf. The shapeless green leaf fell from her hand and fluttered to the ground.

The coachman managed to calm down the excited horses. The carriage had stopped abruptly after colliding with people, and it seemed that someone inside had been jolted as well.

The carriage window opened, and a middle-aged man with a red face shouted,

“Damn it! What’s going on!”

“Sir, I’m sorry. There are many people on the road.”

The coachman hastily apologized and then yelled at the people lying on the side of the road.

“You commoners dare to block the path of nobles? Do you want to die?

The coachman swung his horse whip towards the people. Those standing rushed in and pulled up the fallen from the ground. One man was seriously injured and unmoving.

It was clear that the carriage was at fault for speeding in a crowded area. Yet, they acted as if they were above the law just because they were nobles. Is that what being a noble means?

Even if he were a great noble, Marquis Emers wouldn’t behave like that. Her father had taught her that every human life is precious.

“If the count weren’t busy, you would all be whipped. Be grateful.”

“Bastard,” Judy Esther muttered.

As she clenched her fist and approached the carriage, the silver-haired man stopped her.

“There’s no need to get involved. It’s wise to avoid those who won’t listen to reason.”

“I’m trying to help the citizens.”

“It will be resolved without you needing to intervene, Lady.”

The man grasped Judy Esther’s arm and restrained her. Meanwhile, the carriage that had been insulting the citizens quickly departed. The people, seeing the injured, voluntarily cleared the way.

Judy Esther was about to hurl a string of curses in the direction of the carriage but it had already disappeared. She held her words back. Yelling wouldn’t make the carriage return, and if her father found out, she would only hear worries and lectures.

“Even if you hadn’t intervened, those who needed to be taken care of would have scattered. They’ve been annoying me since earlier,” the silver-haired man muttered, gazing into the air.

“Even if we report it, it will take time for the city guards to arrive, won’t it?”

“It will be resolved quickly. I’ll see to it myself. Even if someone is infatuated with a woman, the safety of the citizens is important.”

“Huh?”

“So, let’s leave the cleanup to them and enjoy the festival instead.”

Just as he finished speaking, knights approached the injured. It seemed that the city guards were on standby nearby because of the festival.

It was a relief during the misfortune. The knights loaded the injured onto nearby carts and moved them somewhere for treatment.

“Do you want me to catch the carriage owner for you?”

“Catch him and do what? No, don’t answer that.”

It was clear what the answer would be—something about beheading or similar violent punishment. Punishment for crimes should be carried out by the law, not by individuals acting on their own. Of course, that guy was a bad person, but…

“You’re too soft.”

“Don’t you think the gentleman in front of me is being excessive?”

“One can’t survive by being weak.”

For a brief moment, Judy Esther actually felt bad for him. Was he like Richard, constantly fending off half-siblings and political threats? Did he choose the mercenary life because he wasn’t even allowed to call his father ‘father’? There was always a tragic backstory with these supporting male leads.
