The Princess's Spectacular Abduction - Chapter 14
“What is this?”
Ravian’s gaze, flickering with confusion, suddenly fixed on a familiar juice bottle placed on the bedside table.
“Hey… what’s this? Did you give this to her?”
A chilling growl emanated from Ravian as he picked up the bottle.
“It wasn’t me, Mira gave it to her because the kid asked for it!”
“What?”
“Basically, that lunatic was sniffing around the kid and suddenly said she felt hot, and when we checked, she really seemed to be…!”
Keith, now almost sobbing, summed up that Nina suddenly seemed sick, and amid everyone’s panic, she had asked for Salamander Juice.
Salamander juice, or Sally Juice, was the most common and widespread fever reducer and painkiller in the West.
However, as Keith hesitated, wondering if it was safe for a child, Mira had preemptively given it to her.
The problem was that after that, Nina’s condition worsened, and Mira had fled the scene while Keith went to fetch Ravian.
Ravian growled, barely holding back his fury.
“You little sh*t!”
“I didn’t know it would turn out like this! What do we do now?! How can we fix this?!”
“What do you mean ‘what do we do’ you moron! Get a doctor, quick…!”
“No doc-tor, no need it.”
Nina, struggling to speak through her swollen lips, managed to mutter out the words, stopping the two men in their tracks.
“Huh? What does that mean?”
“Ugggh, don’t call, no need. Fever gone, no need cure”
Her words slurred due to the high fever, Nina slumped to the side.
It seemed like a typical child’s fear of doctors, but she appeared to be sulking over the suspicion of faking illness.
Judging so, Ravian felt a surge of irritation.
“Why haven’t you left yet?”
“I’ll go, but who should I call? Internal medicine? Surgery? Dentistry? Gynecology? Midwife?”
Keith’s nonsensical rambling was abruptly silenced by Ravian’s fist crashing down on his jaw.
Staggering briefly, Keith quickly regained his composure and dashed off.
Ravian swallowed hard, turning back to Nina with a heavy gulp.
The fever had risen so dramatically that the child’s clothing was soaked in sweat.
But beyond the fever, it was the consumption of Sally Juice that was the most troubling.
While Sally Juice was a common household remedy easily found anywhere, due to its sedative and addictive properties, even adults are warned against overuse.
For a child, incorrect consumption could lead to permanent damage.
“Kid, are you okay?”
It was a foolish question even to his own ears, but at that moment, Ravian had no room to feel embarrassed.
Nina gasped for breath and whispered back.
“Uh-huh, just leave me alone, stupid mister…”
It seemed he had really managed to upset her.
“Ah, yeah, you’re right, I am a fool. No, a complete idiot, an irredeemable blockhead, beyond any doubt.”
In an uncharacteristically humble admission, Ravian scooped Nina up and stepped into the corridor.
He had no particular destination in mind, nor a cunning plan to enact.
However, the anxiety of something happening to the child before Keith returned with a doctor left him restless.
“First things first, let’s change your clothes, kid.”
It was a momentary plausible suggestion until he realized something.
He remembered the discussion about children’s clothing that Keith and Mercy had belatedly brought up, which he too had only just recalled.
Curses aimed at himself spilled out pointlessly.
