The Princess's Spectacular Abduction - Chapter 17
“The boss made the baby cry. And a sick baby at that.”
Keith, who was pale, muttered darkly.
Ravian tried hard to ignore the subordinate who began glaring at him as if he were nothing more than an insect.
‘”What the hell, why are you crying……?’
His mind felt blank.
How should he interpret this baffling situation, or rather, phenomenon?
When he first realized Nina was truly sick, he was uncharacteristically flustered, but once Oscar arrived and the situation seemed to calm down, his judgment becamerational(?).
That is, he had concluded that this cunning little brat was determined to play them.
But then…
‘What’s this trickery now?’
It was at this moment that Oscar, who had been calmly observing the situation, interjected.
“Excuse me, could I speak with you both for a moment?”
Surprisingly, the two hardened criminals, taken aback by the unexpected tears of their young noble hostage, obediently huddled together in the corner.
Trying not to appear too self-important, Oscar cleared his throat.
Although he didn’t know the full story, there was something that had been nagging at Oscar for a while.
“From what I can see, the Young Lady hasn’t been here very long, right?”
Nods in agreement.
“Keith, did the Young Lady suddenly ask for Sally Juice despite clearly being ill?”
“Yeah, that’s right. It was a bit strange, though…”
“Occasionally, among the clients who seek me out, there are those who work for noble families.”
Oscar’s voice carried a serious tone.
Keith, instead of reprimanding the quack who had the audacity to interrupt him, tried to look equally serious.
“And?”
“Sometimes they bring their employer’s child to me, begging for medical attention.”
“Why? Don’t noble hospitals have pediatricians?”
“Taking them to a hospital would create a scandal.”
“What…?”
“It’s a surprisingly common occurrence. Renowned nannies, not by mistake but deliberately, administer such drugs to their wards… It makes the children sleepy, which makes the job easier, and it’s surprisingly seldom caught. Except in the unfortunate case where something goes wrong, and they have to seek out illegal medical practitioners like me.”
Rabian and Keith could only stare at Oscar’s mouth in stunned silence.
They looked like they had no idea what the hell he’s talking about.
Meanwhile, Oscar’s expression turned somewhat bitter.
“I bring this up because the child asked for it herself. It’s an unusual request, especially for a child that clearly isn’t from the slums… Something to consider.”
“So, doctor, are you insinuating that Keith and Mira deliberately poisoned the kid with Sally?”
“No, how did you even get to that conclusion?! Please, buy some books and read them!”
It took Keith quite a while to dispel his misunderstanding and grasp the context of the conversation.
Meanwhile, Ravian just stared blankly at the bed, finally mumbling almost inaudibly.
“Does that even make sense…?”
She’s not just any noble’s daughter, but thePrincess.
Moreover, the First Princess.
A treasure of the Imperial family, so overprotected by Emperor Leopold that her face is hardly known to the public.
Common sense dictated that it was impossible for even the most carefully selected nannies to do such a thing to a royal child.
But then…
“Yeah, it doesn’t make any sense to me either. Maybe the old man got it wrong?”
“I too hope I’m mistaken, but regardless, the Young Lady’s recovery is what matters now. Here’s the medicine; administer it with honey water every three hours…”
“Get out.”
“Excuse me?”
The sudden cold growl made Oscar, who was fumbling with the medicine, and Keith, who had been pretending to listen, freeze in unison.
Facing their dumbstruck expressions, Ravian growled fiercely.
“Everyone out!”
The intensity was enough to make even an invisible dragon flinch.
This time, even Keith didn’t retort and scrambled out in a hurry.
“Damn it…”
Grinding his teeth, Ravian strode briskly to the bedside.
