The Revenge Kidnapping Drama's Transmigrated Female Lead - Chapter 51
Only after two years did she realize the exact reason she lost the deer. It was because the man before her, Helios, had intercepted it.
He even had it taxidermied, and went as far as to openly show it to her.
What could his intention possibly be…..
Perhaps because events were unfolding that she hadn’t seen in the original work, she was unspeakably bewildered.
Just as she tried to study the man’s face to understand his intentions while feigning composure, there was a click, and the chandelier light went out. In an instant, their surroundings were plunged into darkness. The crude fireplace light was the only illumination there.
“……”
As everything suddenly went dark, her pupils trembled anxiously. Moreover, because Helios stood with his back completely to the fireplace, it was difficult to read his expression.
Looking at his face enveloped in darkness, it was as if she was facing a man wearing a pitch-black mask.
Somehow, a chill ran down her spine. Psyche swallowed dryly. The only sounds in the quiet room were the crackling of burning firewood and their breathing. Only after swallowing several more times could she finally produce a voice.
“…Why did you show this to me?”
Perhaps that question stimulated his interest, as the man’s strange laughter lingered in the air. As Helios craftily moved his head, half of his face was dyed red by the light, making his features distinct. However, the other half remained completely invisible, as if still wearing a black mask.
Helios laughed for quite a while. Perhaps because half his face was completely invisible, though he was clearly laughing, it looked as if only one corner of his mouth was twisted upward.
“Why, you ask?”
He spoke while slowly moving his body. When the firelight fell across his entire face, what was revealed was his eyes, completely devoid of any trace of laughter.
“I was curious what expression you would make at this moment.”
What remained in place of the completely receded laughter was, surprisingly, nothing at all. Unlike earlier when not even a point of light fell on it, despite everything being clearly visible now, no emotion whatsoever could be found on his face.
At that moment, Psyche felt as if all the blood in her body turned cold. It felt like she was peeping at something she shouldn’t see. As she stood frozen stiff, Helios, as if nothing had happened, wore a gentle smile across his entire face.
“You’re not crying like you did back then.”
He murmured while extending his long, smooth fingers to caress her eyes.
“You were so beautiful then.”
Slap-! Psyche immediately struck away that hand. Even under her fierce glare, he merely smiled. After silently gazing at her for a moment, Helios released her hand that he had been holding all along and headed somewhere with silent footsteps.
“There are more things in my mansion that you would like. Many things to see too. I’ll invite you later.”
The darkness made it hard to see where he was going. Then, as the chandelier that had gone out turned back on, the room brightened again. Psyche frowned at the flooding light, then wrinkled her face even more at the man’s actions.
As soon as he entered the room, Helios had carelessly tossed aside the bread basket received from Serdin near the door. Now, that same person was taking out several silver platters from the innermost part of the dining room and placing them on the table.
“…I would never go to your mansion, even if I died.”
“Even if you died?”
Before the words were finished, he turned to look at her with a snicker.
“Such frightening words from such pretty lips.”
Her face tensed at his chillingly low voice. While Psyche remained frozen, Helios finished setting the table and leisurely leaned against the wall.
“What do you like?”
Psyche twisted her eyebrows. He seemed to be deliberately grating on her nerves since earlier, but what could be the reason?
“I asked what you like, Phrena.”
When Psyche showed no reaction, Helios threw the words once more. Judging by his almost threatening tone and bored expression, it was clear he didn’t want to repeat himself again.
She took a deep breath and exhaled, trying not to get caught up in his pace, then composed her expression to appear as calm as possible before opening her lips.
“Why should I tell you that?”
A scoffing laugh burst from Helios’s lips.
“Then don’t.”
He tilted his head sideways and prettily curved his eyes.
“Since I already know everything you like and dislike anyway.”
As Psyche let out a laugh of disbelief, Helios chuckled and beckoned to her.
“Phrena, come to me.”
It was an incredibly beautiful and seductive appearance. He seemed well aware of this fact himself. When Psyche stood still as if her feet were glued to the ground, Helios’s eyes narrowed thinly.
