The Sickly Transmigrator Hides the Fact that He Became a Puppy - Chapter 5.2
Startled by the toy’s flapping wings and buzzing sound, Yi Hyeon scurried under a table. The bee eventually stopped at his paws, causing Yi Hyeon to marvel at the advanced dog toy.
‘Wow, it’s actually really surprising.’
Sighing in relief, Yi Hyeon looked around and met eyes with a small white puffball tucked away in a corner.
‘Still getting socialized, huh? Cute… Maybe I should invite him to play?’
Yi Hyeon tentatively pawed at the bee, trying to figure out how it worked. Seeing him take the lead, the other dogs started inching closer out of curiosity.
Buzz!
With another buzz, the dogs scattered, tails tucked between their legs as only their wiggling behinds were visible.
‘Don’t be scared, it’s just a toy.’
Yi Hyeon pounced on the toy with all his might, his body landing lightly like a dandelion seed. Rubbing against it playfully, he clutched the toy in his mouth, tossing it this way and that, pinning it under his front paws as he rolled around.
‘See, it’s just a harmless toy, right?’
The other dogs, seeing Yi Hyeon wrestle the toy, cautiously approached, reassured that the toy was harmless. Even the white Maltese, hiding in a corner, peeked out and lifted its haunches, tail wagging hesitantly.
‘Come on, let’s play together!’
Yi Hyeon ran over to the Maltese with the toy in his mouth, dropped it in front of him, and panted heavily, his tongue lolling out.
* * *
Tumbling and wrestling with just one toy, Yi Hyeon and the Maltese quickly became friends.
When Yi Hyeon would flee, the Maltese would chase him. When he slyly let the toy be taken, the Maltese would run off instead. As Yi Hyeon worked hard to help the Maltese socialize, a soft bell chimed as a couple entered the café, greeted warmly by the staff.
“Welcome! Is this your first time here?”
“Yes, why?”
“We have a few guidelines. For everyone’s safety, dogs that are prone to biting or mounting may be asked to leave, and any charges will be fully refunded.”
“Our dog doesn’t bite or anything.”
“We’d appreciate it if you could keep your dog on a harness for the first ten minutes, just so they can get comfortable.”
“Our dog adapts fast; no need for that.”
“Well, it also helps the other dogs adjust to the new scent, so we thank you for your patience.”
As the staff went back to work, the couple exchanged irritated looks at their table.
“They’re so strict here.”
“It’s just a local café; who’s gonna come if they act like this?”
Though they whispered, Yi Hyeon’s sensitive ears picked up their complaints as if they were speaking directly to him.
He scrunched up his nose, the overpowering scent of their perfume making him want to sneeze.
“Woof!”
‘I’m it now!’
The Maltese, his turn to be “it,” snatched up the toy in his tiny mouth and wagged his tail furiously, drawing Yi Hyeon’s attention.
Wondering why people who own dogs wouldn’t bother to learn basic pet etiquette, Yi Hyeon furrowed his nose at the couple, but the playful Maltese’s bark snapped him back.
“Woof woof!”
The Maltese dashed off, wiggling his plump little behind, as if saying it was Yi Hyeon’s turn to chase him.
Then came the loud, thundering sound of paws—a noise like a charging cavalry. Yi Hyeon turned around just in time to see the couple’s dog, bared teeth glinting, storming straight toward the Maltese.
Despite the café’s request to keep the harness on for ten minutes, the couple had disregarded it. Their dog now barreled through the café, trampling other dogs in its path without any concern from its owners.
Yelp! Yelp! Woof woof woof!
In an instant, the café turned into a chaotic mess of barking dogs and frustrated owners.
“Woof!”
Seeing the dog chasing the Maltese, Yi Hyeon joined in with a fierce bark. Startled, the Maltese dropped the toy and darted to a corner. Yi Hyeon quickly positioned himself in front of the Maltese, blocking the way with his rear and baring his tiny, sharp teeth, growling protectively.
It seemed the dog had really only wanted the toy, as it stopped chasing the Maltese and snatched up the abandoned toy instead.
