The Sub Male Lead is Burning with Jealousy - Chapter 4 Part 4
Rahil felt like punching Emilio upon seeing him.
‘What kind of rude person visits during a honeymoon!’
Rahil had become acquainted with Emilio through Theodore, with whom he had formed a close friendship. Although Theodore was his best friend, Emilio was someone he could be at ease with.
Emilio had been the most shocked by Angelica’s marriage news and had chosen not to attend. He sent a wedding gift but had a representative from the Mage Tower attend in his place.
He had excused himself from appearing in person, claiming to be investigating dragon ruins far away, and Rahil had thought he wouldn’t see him for about a year.
In fact, Emilio had not attended Rahil’s wedding in person but had sent a disciple transformed to look like him instead.
‘Why come now?!’
Despite the not-so-great mood, Rahil, feeling as though someone had ruined a good atmosphere, stormed off to the drawing room. Anais tried to follow, but Rahil dissuaded her.
Emilio wasn’t the type to observe formalities simply because someone was a noble. Rahil knew it was unreasonable to expect Anais to tolerate Emilio’s rudeness unless they had become somewhat acquainted.
As Rahil descended to the seventh-floor drawing room, a servant recognized him and respectfully opened the door. Inside, Emilio, who was picking at some snacks, greeted Rahil with a wave.
“Hey there!”
Without even standing up to greet Rahil, Emilio spoke casually, prompting Rahil to rush over and smack him on the back of his head.
“Ow!”
The servant seemed startled, but Rahil gestured for him to leave. Quick to catch on, the servants promptly exited, closing the door behind them. Emilio was still grimacing in pain.
“Damn… I had a barrier up, why does it still hurt so much!”
“Didn’t I tell you not to use that kind of tone in public after my coronation?”
“Eh…”
Slumped against the back of the sofa, stretching out his limbs and avoiding eye contact, Emilio looked like a child unwilling to listen to scolding. Normally, either Theodore or Emilio’s secretary would have reprimanded him, but Rahil was alone with him now.
“Are you a child?”
“When did you get married without me knowing?”
It seemed the attendance of a mage disguised as Emilio at Rahil’s wedding was the doing of one of his disciples without Emilio’s permission. Since it was done for the sake of maintaining royal dignity, Rahil hadn’t held him accountable.
“I did send an invitation to the Mage Tower, and I received a gift from there.”
“I didn’t know about it. The gift sent by my disciples is just the usual stuff. You should receive the real deal from me.”
With that, Emilio pulled out a box from his belongings and placed it on the table. Rahil glanced at it suspiciously before turning his gaze back to Emilio.
“What’s your motive?”
At Rahil’s reaction, Emilio smirked. He liked this aspect of Rahil. Other nobles, or Theodore, would have circled around trying to guess his true intentions.
“No ulterior motives. Just curious about who my friend married.”
Theodore and Rahil were different. Theodore knew how to conceal himself behind a mask of politeness, whereas Rahil was not so adept. His rise to the throne, despite this, was likely due to his frankness.
That difference drew people to him, including Emilio, who valued Rahil’s straightforwardness.
Therefore, Emilio was particularly interested in who Rahil had married. Rahil wasn’t foolish, but dealing with the schemes of women was not his strong suit.
‘If she’s like the women who’ve tried to harm Angelica before, she could rot the empire from the inside.’
Rahil grew uneasy at Emilio’s expectant, grinning face that seemed to imply ‘Are you going to show me’. He had just begun to question his own feelings.
Expecting loyalty over a woman from friends who had once contested over one, seemed far-fetched.
“…Do you really need to see?”
“Yes!”
Emilio’s laughter-filled response solidified Rahil’s resolve.
* * *
“Uh? What?”
Before Emilio could process his confusion, he was swiftly escorted out of the hotel, and the door shut behind him. Clinging to the door in bewilderment, it was too late; the door had long been closed.
“Wait… Rah-oh no, Your Majesty!”
Behind the closed door, Rahil instructed the soldiers with a stern look.
“Don’t open it under any circumstances.”
“Yes, sir!”
Though the soldiers looked unsure as if thinking ‘Is that really okay?’, they would still comply since the order came from the emperor himself. Rahil turned and headed upstairs.
‘Emilio… absolutely not!’
Emilio, known for his striking appearance, had always been popular among women. Despite his flirtatious demeanor, he was actually inexperienced with women, which only made him more appealing to certain ladies.
Although Rahil was unsure of Emilio’s intentions, if Emilio learned that Anais’s marriage was political and she planned to take concubines, he might try to become one himself under the guise of investigation!
‘I can’t allow that!’
Even if Anais were to entertain the idea, the thought alone ignited a fierce jealousy in Rahil. If he could fall for Anais so easily, so could Emilio.
If Emilio fell for Anais and decided to elope with her, tracking him down would be difficult, given his status as the head of the Mage Tower.
‘I-I admit it’s an overreaction, but!’
“Has Master Emilio already left, Your Majesty?”
Anais, descending the stairs, momentarily left Rahil speechless. Even in her simple indoor attire, her approach was enough to quicken his heartbeat.
“Ah… he was just passing by.”
He had left a gift, but Rahil, suspicious of its contents, had no intention of showing it to Anais.
“He didn’t want to disturb our honeymoon, so he left early.”
“I see.”
‘Emilio, that master of the mage tower, doesn’t seem like the type to do that,’ Anais thought, but decided not to dwell on it. As the head of the Mage Tower, he rarely visited the capital without a specific reason.
Most of his visits were related to Angelica, and now that she was married to Theodore, Anais figured there would be little reason for him to come around.
‘He came again after seeing me at the wedding? Even though he was closer to Rahil in the original story…’
