The Sub Male Lead is Burning with Jealousy - Chapter 6 Part 7
Currently, she was sitting on Rahil’s thighs, leaning back against his broad chest. Although her back no longer hurt, she lacked the strength to hold herself up and would have slipped into the water if Rahil hadn’t been holding her.
Anais was zoning out in that state. Her body felt too languid to bother thinking. Meanwhile, Rahil continued to carefully touch her body and kiss her. He would press his lips to her neck or shoulders and, when their eyes met, he would kiss her cheek.
‘Does he really like me this much? To the point he is this happy?’
That sudden thought made Anais feel a bit queasy. She had always thought she didn’t have a type, but now it seemed she might.
Maybe my type is ‘someone who loves me’?
Seeing Rahil dote on her now stirred something in her heart. Part of her felt it was only natural as a human to respond to someone treating her so well.
It was strange not to be affected by someone loving her this much, even if what Rahil did in critical moments was selfish.
“……”
In a surge of emotion, Anais pinched Rahil’s arm, but his skin didn’t budge. Rahil just looked puzzled and kissed her cheek again. It was clear he was getting carried away.
* * *
From that day on, Anais shared her bed with Rahil every night. It wasn’t because her feelings for Rahil had softened. Rather, since one day was not enough to confirm pregnancy, she did not refuse Rahil’s entrance into the bedroom, thinking to make sure of it.
Rahil seemed to treat Anais with care. Every time their bodies overlapped, Anais felt nothing but pl*asure. Rahil always made an effort to ensure she felt enough pl*asure until she was submerged in it.
There were exactly six days of peace.
Anais, lying in bed first, expected this night to be similar to the previous ones. Rahil entered the bedroom chuckling, climbed onto the bed immediately after removing his robe, and embraced Anais.
The reason he didn’t touch or kiss her right away that day was because such moments had become familiar. Rahil wanted more than just physicality from Anais, so he was slowly trying to start a conversation.
Anais didn’t greatly resist either. Her heart had softened more than before, and she fiddled with Rahil’s shoulders, arms, and face. Sometimes she even touched his hair.
“You always wear the same thing, you must like it?”
So when Anais asked this, Rahil was completely off guard.
“Huh? What?”
“This.”
Anais’s hand touched the earring hanging from Rahil’s ear. Suddenly, Rahil jerked as if jumping, startled. His vigorous reaction surprised Anais as well.
“Your Majesty?”
“Ah, no, no….”
Rahil looked explicitly flustered, and Anais had a puzzled look on her face. Perhaps because of the many wrongs he had done, Rahil was someone who never showed anger, no matter what Anais did. Although his current demeanor wasn’t angry, the reaction was odd.
“Why? Is this earring some kind of magical artifact?”
Anais didn’t think the earring had any significant origin, as she hadn’t seen Rahil wearing it before they were married. Rahil had started wearing that earring since the night of their wedding. He had not worn it at the wedding ceremony.
Rahil glanced at Anais with a somewhat pale face. Everything about Rahil seemed strange to Anais.
“Your Majesty?”
“Yes, yes, it’s just a simple protective artifact.”
Just a protective artifact? But why such a startled reaction to it being touched? If it were an offensive magical artifact, that might be surprising, but it seemed unlikely he would wear it just to come to bed.
A sudden thought crossed her mind. It seemed unlikely, yet the anxious and observant manner of Rahil suggested it might be expected.
‘Surely…It couldn’t be that.’
Anais frowned as anxiety spread through her like poison. It was a matter of basic courtesy and trust that should be maintained between spouses. That’s what she had been taught.
They, or rather Rahil, had lost her trust in many respects. Yet in such a situation, he surely wouldn’t do something like that.
“Could it be a contraceptive magical device?”
“That…”
Rahil’s flustered expression as he looked at her was enough of an answer. His face clearly said, ‘How did you know?’ making Anais stunned. Though she had thrown out the question as a guess, she had not anticipated this outcome. She had thought it not to be the case.
Why…? Why now?
Considering their estranged relationship, it made sense to try for a child. If there was a child between them, it could strengthen their bond for the sake of the child’s protection.
Anais tried to soften her feelings of injustice by thinking about raising a child with him.
She thought back to their honeymoon. She regretted letting her emotions get the better of her then. Although she had really despised Rahil, she should have endured it. Starting the marriage with bad rumors in the Imperial family was not right. So this time…
“A-Anais…”
As Rahil looked at her with a panicked expression, Anais touched her own eyes. Angrily, tears were streaming down her face. Was this something to cry about? as she wondered that she felt angry that she had trusted Rahil again.
It felt like being hit hard on the head. Her head was buzzing, and for a moment, she just stared at Rahil.
He looked at Anais as if frozen. His expression was like a mouse in front of a cat, genuinely fearful and unsure of what to do next, but she did not want to feel any sympathy.
It was all lies. If he was afraid of this situation, why did he always create circumstances that warranted her blame?
“Isn’t it that?”
“No, no! This is…”
Rahil hurriedly removed the magical device from his ear. Anais watched as he clenched it tightly, turning it to powder. She moved to the other side of the bed.
Seeing him destroy the evidence confirmed it. Staying by Rahil’s side would only lead to her saying something regrettable, so she needed to leave.
