The Succubus, The Priest, and His Fall Into Lustful Heat - Chapter 57
Diar Duvalkan, now twenty-seven years old, indeed had a history of flirting with numerous women, just as Ashtel had guessed.
‘Miss, you look especially beautiful today.’
‘Oh, Oh my. Sir Duvalkan, you’re quite charming too!’
‘I’m glad to hear that. I put in some effort to impress you.’
Stuff like that.
‘Miss Maid, that looks heavy. May I carry it for you?’
‘Oh, tha, thank you!’
‘No problem at all.’
Stuff like this.
‘So, what did that scoundrel say?’
‘He said he couldn’t be with me anymore because I’m of low birth.’
‘What a jerk. There are plenty of men out there. How about the one standing in front of you?’
Yes, things like this.
Even in Katzel Medialle, people behaved as they would anywhere else. Not everyone followed the teachings with sincere and devout hearts. The dynamics between men and women often became an amusing pastime.
Duvalkan, being a natural charmer, mingled with maids and visiting nobles, finding his place among them.
‘Sir Duvalkan, you’re so kind. And, well… you’re really handsome too.’
‘Haha, thank you for the compliment.’
Using his good looks, he could easily break down the defenses of even the most guarded women. By pretending to listen and flashing a dazzling smile, he quickly made them his admirers.
Hence, Duvalkan’s pride and reputation with women seemed extensive. But in reality…
“How, how could she…”
“Diar, what are you doing?”
“Ah!”
Just as he was contemplating the absurdity of the situation, Van burst into the room. Duvalkan hastily covered the basket.
Van’s eyes naturally fell on the basket now sitting on Duvalkan’s lap.
“What are you so frantically covering?”
“N-nothing.”
“So, I’m supposed to pretend I don’t see that basket?”
Duvalkan didn’t respond.
Van, who had trained with Duvalkan since childhood and entered Medialle alongside him, was now his roommate and colleague. Unlike the lazy Duvalkan, Van diligently honed his swordsmanship and had become the deputy head of the knights.
Their close friendship allowed them to speak freely with each other.
Van, shaking out his long, black hair like a waterfall, pulled out a fresh shirt.
“Looks like you’ve taken on another maid’s stuff.”
“Some, something like that.”
Feigning nonchalance, Duvalkan pushed the basket under the bed and shrugged.
“You can’t ignore a kitten in need.”
“Your bizarre way of speaking never ceases to irritate me.”
Van, clicking his tongue in disapproval at how things had turned out, quickly finished getting ready. He strapped on his long, thick sword and headed out the door.
“Training starts soon. Don’t be late.”
“I know.”
“Try to be on time for once.”
“Got it.”
“You always say that.”
Duvalkan sat quietly, listening for any sounds of Van leaving, until he was certain the area was clear. He let out a heavy sigh, rubbing his forehead.
“Sue. She said her name was Sue.”
An unusual but cute name, nothing too strange. Yet, recently, Sue had been on Duvalkan’s mind more than anything else.
‘Do you know a maid named Sue?’
‘Oh? You mean the one always hanging around the priest’s quarters?’
‘Yeah, yeah. She’s quite the looker, isn’t she?’
‘And she has such pretty hands.’
‘But why are you asking about her?’
‘Do you know how she got in here?’
‘Uh… no, I don’t. Why would we know? Why are you asking us that?’
‘Aren’t maids’ recruitment the responsibility of paladins?’
According to Payne, Sue had started working as a maid during a time when new hires weren’t being accepted, thanks to the recommendation of some ‘knight’.
This made Duvalkan curious about the knight who had helped her out as she was struggling to make ends meet…..
‘But there was no such knight.’
No one.
No one had known her before she arrived at the temple. So, what was the truth? Did Sue lie? Or did Payne make a mistake?
With no clear answers, Duvalkan began investigating Sue.
‘Why am I always stuck with these tasks?’
He kept an eye on the maid sweeping the floors, grumbling to herself.
‘She said she grew up in poverty, but her hands don’t have a single callus. Her hair is shiny, and her cheeks aren’t sunken. She might not have been wealthy, but she certainly wasn’t lacking.’
He started documenting everything about Sue. Her speech, her walk, her daily habits. But the more he recorded, the more mysterious she became.
‘Why is she always slacking off?’
She was too careless to be a spy, yet something about her felt off.
Sue would abandon her chores at the slightest chance and rush off to find Payne. And if she heard anyone speaking ill of him, she would dash over, sometimes even throwing punches to defend his honor.
