While there weren’t major threats to the female lead, upon closer inspection, it was filled with various incidents endangering the lives of commoners.
‘Anyway, I’m not the main character, so I need to be cautious.’
“Is the Gate Management Office in good condition?”
“Yes! Don’t worry. His Highness confirmed through multiple checks that there won’t be any accidents this time.”
“That’s right. You will definitely be safe.”
“Yes! Besides, our master is someone who cares about Madam’s safety more than anyone.”
Grace was just asking casually, but the maids who were nearby rushed in to answer one by one.
They kept emphasizing that everything would be safe. Grace found their behavior quite unusual.
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“True! Madam, you don’t have to worry about anything.”
‘Well, I wasn’t that worried.’
Anyway, during the journey, even if I like it or not, I would have to accompany Aria, the saintess, and the female lead.
Aria was said to be loved by the world, and she as the main character was genuinely adored, not just in a superficial way.
She was not just loved, but also favored by the world. The only threat to Aria in this world was Benjamin, who later succumbed to distorted obsession and ran amok.
‘And besides, I’m also a potential threat…candidate’
Occasional moments of inexplicable tenderness from Benjamin still made her a candidate.
‘Starting with this mission, I might discover more things.’
Is there really someone who truly wants to kill her, and if so, is Benjamin the direct cause, or was it related to her being entangled with the Duchy?
If that’s the case, Grace had no choice but to divorce in order to live. As for now, survival was her priority.
‘While I do receive criticism, I don’t have any enemies.’
There was no one who truly harbored malice towards Grace. After all, she had never engaged in external activities before.
So, by making allies during this opportunity, Grace believed she could somewhat control the movements of those targeting her.
‘At least it will be impossible for suspicious people to get involved.’
Well, the plan may not be perfect, but it’s fine. Nodding to herself, Grace was dragged around by the maids, listening to their advice and suggestions.
“Even if I use the gate, it’s better to have less luggage. I’m not going on a vacation, after all.”
Grace’s firm mediation left the maids with disappointed expressions. Only Sally, who was accompanying her, nodded and started organizing the piled-up items.
“I will assist Madam diligently throughout the journey, so don’t worry.”
“Thanks to Sally, I feel somewhat relieved.”
“It’s nothing. I feel sorry, I should have done better.”
Even though she was the wife of a duke, Grace didn’t have a single lady-in-waiting. The roles of maids and ladies-in-waiting were different, and Sally seemed apologetic that she couldn’t make up for it.
In truth, the other maids were also visibly upset by this, making an extra effort to take care of Grace’s belongings.
It was as if they were telling her not to get discouraged no matter what she does or what mistake she makes.
“Don’t worry. Madam will be the best wherever she goes.”
“Best? In what…”
“Anything!”
“That’s right! And Lord Vantrin decided to accompany you as well. No one will dare to disrespect you!”
‘What… disrespect me?’
No matter how unfavorably Grace was regarded, she was still the Duchess of Felton.
Even though there was no love between them, their relationship wasn’t bad, and Benjamin was quick to protest if Grace was treated unfairly.
‘Am I that easy of a target?’
Well, I might not give that strong of an impression… Grace mumbled to herself as she cupped her cheeks.
“Anyway, don’t get discouraged. You’re the best.”
“Yes, don’t blame yourself for anything that might happen there.”
Overwhelmed by the sudden overwhelming support, Grace’s eyes rolled around.
‘Why are they acting like this?’
While these people often kept a close eye on Grace, they had never been so enthusiastic before.
Regardless of whether Grace understood and accepted their intentions or not, the maids cheered her on, their eyes shining brightly.
“Th-thank you.”
In the end, Grace could only feel touched and grateful.
‘Oh, could it be because of Aria?’
Though everyone was silent, they might be aware of Benjamin’s behavior. Grace recalled the time when Benjamin hesitated to report his whereabouts to Grace when he went to the temple to help with the activities regarding the Rondel Canal.
‘So that’s it.’
For some reason, it seemed like she could understand the reason for their support at first glance, but seeing the maids sending 100% of their allies’ eyes toward her, made her heart feel full.
Even though Grace had assumed they might find her bothersome, still they always supported her.
Having allies always made her feel more secure and at ease.
