The Wicked Wife's Dark History Keeps Coming Back To Haunt Her - Chapter 19
“Wife, with a single word from the Chief Justice, even a perfectly fine attorney can be disbarred.”
Ash straightened up and stared intently at Nina.
This was precisely why he was preparing for the Chief Justice’s downfall behind the scenes.
As long as her grandfather held his position, a smooth divorce was impossible.
“It’s nothing for your grandfather to turn a notarized statement into a meaningless piece of paper, so what kind of nonsense is this?”
At Ash’s sharp remark, Nina closed her eyes tightly and trembled slightly.
‘My grandfather really was an incredibly powerful man beyond imagination…’
She hadn’t known that the Chief Justice had the power to revoke an attorney’s license.
The thought of rendering the notarized statement meaningless had never even crossed her mind.
‘Damn it…’
How could she persuade someone who didn’t trust that the contents of the statement would be fulfilled?
The dark histories she had accumulated were now coming back to haunt her.
Trembling all over, lamenting, Nina slowly began to speak to the man waiting for her excuse with a sly smile.
“…Honey, what woman wouldn’t be hurt to hear that her own husband feels nothing toward her?”
For a moment, the cold, cynical expression on his face cracked ever so slightly.
He knew it too.
He knew that his words could leave a deep wound on a woman.
In truth, his heartlessness that day had been the first time that had truly driven her to despair, despite all her previous rejections.
She felt the bitterness of that moment wash over her again, but only for a moment.
“Believe it or not, those words made me realize my reality. I can’t even elicit at least the slightest reaction in you… what can I possibly do?”
She had needed time to build trust but had been too hasty, rushing to demand a divorce out of selfishness.
‘Now that it’s come to this, I have no choice.’
With a faint smile, Nina stood up.
“…Alright. I will respect your wishes. But if you ever… even if by some small chance, change your mind, please let me know anytime.”
This was a tactical retreat for a future advance.
‘One more year.’
She resolved to gain his trust within that time, peacefully divorce, and leave this worldly life behind.
As Nina turned away, a serene determination flashed through her sky-blue eyes.

At the conservatory of the Nord Duchy’s mansion—
This greenhouse, made of pristine, top-quality glass, was the duchess’s favorite place in the mansion.
Filled with rare exotic plants and beautiful but high-maintenance flora, it was an ideal location to flaunt wealth to guests.
“…By the way, has everyone heard the latest news?”
A woman with elegant brown hair coiled up and emerald-green eyes.
Rebecca, the hostess of the Nord family, spoke in a hushed tone and then fell silent.
“What interesting story are you holding back from us today, Madam?”
Another woman asked with a sparkle of interest in her eyes, prompting Rebecca to share her tale with a conspiratorial tone.
“I heard a story not long ago… the Duchess of Bayern fell down a set of stairs.”
“Oh my.”
The guests’ eyes widened in shock. They had expected to hear about a marital spat at most.
“My goodness, how did that happen…?”
“So that’s why she hasn’t been attending gatherings lately. Was she seriously injured?”
As the ladies murmured amongst themselves, Rebecca lowered her voice conspiratorially.
“I don’t know how badly she was hurt, but I do know how it happened.”
Someone muttered with a serious expression.
“Surely no one pushed her on purpose, right?”
Given the widespread tales of Duchess Bayern’s antics, it was only natural to think this way.
She would glare at her husband as if she wanted to kill him, and if she happened to speak with him by chance, she would vilify him as an immoral philanderer. That was her usual behavior.
If she behaved like this with other nobles, one could only imagine her tyranny towards her servants.
Rebecca savored the aroma of her tea as she murmured.
“It would have been much better if that had been the case…”
