That giant weight wasn’t Ragon.
“Ugh, grrk…”
Though it wasn’t a dangerous situation, I still felt relieved.
I sighed in relief and looked ahead to see adults rushing toward us.
Leading the group was my grandfather.
His face, never particularly soft to begin with, had darkened to the point that it looked like he could easily kill someone with just his expression.
“Get those filthy hands off.”
Crack.
“Argh! Guh, ugh!”
The sound of bones breaking echoed as the servant’s arm twisted unnaturally.
Crushed under some force, the servant couldn’t even scream properly.
‘Serves you right.’
“Erylotte!”
“Abeno!”
My father and Crown Prince Beleyn , who had been with my grandfather, rushed toward us in a panic.
Crown Prince Beleyn gathered Abeno’s limp body from my arms.
My father, however, didn’t even glance at Abeno, too busy checking on me.
His large hands carefully inspected my body.
With a face full of worry, he asked,
“What happened?”
“That servant fed Prince Abeno a hypnotic. When I caught him, he kidnapped Prince Abeno and tried to escape!”
Upon hearing my words, Beleyn’s face hardened.
‘Wow.’
Though his face had sharp features, I take back what I said about him looking kind.
In truth, he looked utterly terrifying.
* * *
I stood at the front of the conference room’s table.
The second generation of Astra, their vassals, and the people of Aligiosa were all seated along the long table.
Every pair of eyes in the room was focused on me.
Calmly, I explained the situation.
“I began feeling something was off during the time we were playing in the garden earlier.”
Since then?
I could feel the surprise in their gazes.
The second generation of Astra were probably even more shocked, as they’d only heard their children complain about how Abeno ignored them.
“What exactly made you feel something was wrong?”
“Prince Abeno saw my Steel Crow monster, Ragon, and said that he used to raise an eagle, but it disappeared. He said he really liked it because it was so cool, but he was sad when it vanished.”
At my words, Beleyn’s face stiffened.
It was clear now.
The eagle had disappeared during the civil war.
“When I asked him more about it, he said he couldn’t remember. Then he grabbed his head and sat down. He was clearly suffering from a terrible headache.”
“If you’re talking about Prince Abeno’s eagle, that went missing during the civil war…”
Sure enough, one of the people from Aligiosa brought up the civil war.
“I thought so too. At first, I thought the headache was a result of trauma from the war. That’s what I’d read in books! But then…”
I frowned as I continued.
“The servant who was watching us and overhearing our conversation about the eagle had a strange glint in his eyes. Even though Prince Abeno was clearly in pain, the servant wasn’t worried and was more focused on getting him back to his room. I had a bad feeling.”
“Hm.”
“Still, Prince Abeno looked like he was feeling better by the time of the banquet, so I thought everything was fine. But after the banquet, the servant insisted that Prince Abeno take his medicine. That’s when I noticed something odd about Prince Abeno’s reaction.”
“Odd?”
“When you take medicine that makes your pain go away, there’s no reason to avoid it, right?”
“Indeed.”
“If someone hesitates, it’s probably because the medicine tastes bitter or makes them feel weird.”
“That’s true.”
Everyone nodded at my logical explanation.
“But Prince Abeno said the medicine made his head feel fuzzy and that it made him groggy, which is why he didn’t want to take it.”
“That does sound strange.”
The adults nodded again, practically like an audience watching my talk show.
“So, I started thinking more about the headache he had a while ago, and I remembered something I read in a book. It said prolonged use of hypnotics can cause those kinds of symptoms.”
“Oh, to read such advanced books at such a young age.”
I could see my father’s lips twitching at someone’s praise.
‘Oh dear.’
Dad, now’s not the time.
When I glanced at him, he straightened his expression back to a serious one.
“So, just to be sure, I went to check on him in his room…”
I trailed off, pretending to be concerned like a child, while sneaking glances at my grandfather.
“That seems to be the case. If anyone has further questions, feel free to ask.”
