This Three-Year-Old Is A Villainess - Chapter 45
“She even whips the servants she doesn’t like. She falsely accuses them and drives them away… She’s a terrible person.”
“Even the servants who crossed her are numerous.”
“We were too scared to report her to the authorities.”
The maids exchanged glances as they whispered to each other.
“Remember what happened last time?”
“Yeah, a servant reported her, but her loyal followers twisted the story, so only the reporter got kicked out.”
The maids shivered, as if just thinking about it was frightening.
‘Seems like the castle has become a mess without Father around.’
Not just one or two years. It had been more than five years since he had left.
During that time, Rachel had plenty of time to establish her reign.
I stared at the maids.
‘They still look quite young.’
They appeared to be newly adults.
I rummaged in my bag and pulled something out, which I held up.
“What’s that, Young Miss?”
It was an ointment I used on the wounds I got from monsters on Mt. Hadix.
It was highly effective, as it was used by the dukedom’s direct family.
“It’s mwedwicine.”
“Medicine?”
“Yeah.”
I replied and gently applied the ointment to the cheek of one of the maids.
Their eyes welled up with tears.
“Young Miss…”
“I’m glad. I thought nobles were all trash—no, not very good people…”
“Yeah, not those sons of b****es—no, I mean… scary people. I thought I might have to kill one of them someday.”
“But the Young Miss is different.”
“Yeah, the Young Miss is different. You stood up to Mrs. Rachel for us…”
They shivered as they recalled.
“Wha’s youw name?” (What’s your name?)
“Uh, my name…”
“Name!”
I asked for their names to change the mood, but instead, tears welled up in the maids’ eyes.
“The first person to ask for my name in this castle is the Young Miss, sob! I’m Betty.”
“S-sob, I’m Heidi…!”
Why are they crying?
They suddenly burst into tears, and I was a bit puzzled.
“I’m happy to be able to serve such a kind lady!”
“We’ll do our very best…!”
All this because of that?
‘They must have gone through a lot.’
The maids cried and I had to endure their weeping.
And they kept their promise.
In the days that followed, they continued to show excessive loyalty.
***
A few days later.
I had breakfast in my room.
The maids, Heidi and Betty, looked around and checked my soup with a spoon, then withdrew it.
“There’s no poison. It’s safe to eat.”
“…”
“The bread is safe too.”
“…”
I looked at them with a bewildered expression.
For the past few days, these two have been inspecting my meals.
It seemed like they’re suspecting that Mrs. Rachel would try to poison me.
‘How crazy must Mrs. Rachel be in their eyes?’
Even if she had suffered some embarrassment, it didn’t make sense that she would attempt to poison the daughter of her master.
Mrs. Rachel was the head housekeeper, responsible for everything that happened in the estate. If someone else tried to poison me, she would have to take responsibility for it.
‘Mrs. Rachel is no fool.’
I sipped my soup with a puzzled look.
As I drank, my cheeks quivered, and the maids exclaimed, “Ahh!” in excitement, watching me closely.
…It seemed a bit off.
Still, there were some helpful points.
“Jodi from the drawing room is completely Mrs. Rachel’s person. There are a few minions in the kitchen too.”
“Right. But is the head chef okay?”
“Yeah. He’s so skilled that he’s won favor in the eyes of the master.”
“Head Gardener Cole would lick Mrs. Rachel’s shoes if she asked.”
I knew well about the people in the jurisdiction.
I remembered the maids’ words well.
After finishing the meal, I went out to the central courtyard.
It was to send off my father for his inspection of the estate.
The central courtyard was bustling with people. Soldiers and administrators were all preparing for the inspection.
“Oh, Young Miss!”
Soldier Mosco noticed me and waved.
He was the 3 meter tall guy who had carried me on his back on our way down from Mount Hadix. Other soldiers also approached me.
“How do you like it here?”
“I wike it.”
The soldiers nodded.
“Haha, that’s right! It’s much better than the Duke’s estate. There are too many things you can’t do there.”
“Hey, discipline is what it’s called. You’re too big of a dumbass to follow the rules.”
“It’s good to be enthusiastic. Isn’t that right, Young Miss?”
I replied with a simple “Ywes.”
Mosco and the soldiers laughed heartily.
“By the way, Young Miss, you seem quite enthusiastic yourself. Slapping the chief housekeeper as soon as you arrived.”
How did the soldiers know about that?
I was pondering this when I heard Mrs. Rachel’s voice from behind.
“Don’t be too harsh. It seems like I did something that Young Miss didn’t like.”
Mrs. Rachel approached and smiled warmly.
“I’ll try to make sure the Young Miss likes it here.”
“…”
“But next time, please don’t punish others for no reason. People are watching.”
I stared at Mrs. Rachel.
‘She’s doing damage control.’
