Thought It Was 'The End', Only to Return to a Changed Genre - Chapter 131
Adeline’s prescription was rest.
“Why won’t anyone believe me?”
“Indeed… why is that, I wonder?”
Genevieve smiled kindly and nodded along without much sincerity. Adeline burst out, feeling frustrated.
“You’re the one who prescribed it, Genevieve…”
“Did I?”
Yes, the healer had clearly diagnosed that there was nothing wrong with Adeline.
The medical practices in this world were not particularly trustworthy. The roles of doctors were split between healers and priests—healers specialized in internal injuries, while priests handled external injuries.
As a result, they were weak against diseases that originated within the body, like colds or cancer, and surgical practices had not developed much either. With their reliance on divine power, technological advancement was slow. It was said that if a procedure required amputation or opening up the body, it was often better to just die.
However, the healer who examined Adeline was affiliated with the imperial family, so his diagnosis should have been reliable.
Yet, Genevieve insisted on taking precautions just in case, and as a result, Shane and the Bertrand family promptly confined Adeline to her room.
‘I’m anxious because all I know is that the sorcerer is a woman, and nothing more.’
Genevieve was charming enough to captivate even women, but in the novel, the sorcerer was definitely a man.
However, the sorcerer in her dream was a woman with long black hair.
This meant that the sorcerer, like the main characters, had changed significantly from the novel. It also meant there were too many things Adeline didn’t know.
But while her mind was urgent, reality was different.
Gregory, with tears in his eyes, pleaded, “Please understand how your father feels.” Patrick held her hands tightly and said, “Please, Adeline, we’re begging.”
If Jeff had done it, she would have scolded him for being dramatic, but she couldn’t say anything to Patrick. He was usually so stern and serious.
Adeline couldn’t treat Patrick as lightly as she did Jeff. He felt like an adult, and that made him hard to deal with.
And then Emma came running in, crying as she pulled her daughter into a tight embrace. Adeline had no choice but to agree.
‘Why does everyone cry so much…?’
She was worried about how they managed to survive in this harsh world.
“You’re the one who insisted on the rest just in case, even though the healer said I’m healthy.”
“Yes, but you lost the gift I gave you.”
Adeline had no retort to that. Feeling guilty, she kept her mouth shut. Genevieve looked at her affectionately and said,
“The Founding Festival isn’t much different from five years ago. Instead, please spend time with me. I’ve used up most of my vacation time on investigating incidents and taking care of the Pope, so I only have a few days left.”
“Edwin should give you a longer vacation.”
“Even if His Highness Edwin were to grant me more time off, it wouldn’t matter once the Pope returns.”
She smiled weakly, already looking exhausted.
‘Maybe my rest is just an excuse, and Genevieve just wanted to take a break herself.’
If that were the case, then even this leisurely tea time had meaning.
Genevieve had been the one attacked, the one who caught the culprit, and the one being questioned.
It was the church’s desperate attempt to prevent the Saintess from sharing power with the Pope.
Edwin’s plan to elevate the Saintess’s status and gain control over the church added to the burden, leaving Genevieve unable to enjoy a proper vacation. She complained that it would have been better to go on an expedition.
“And this Founding Festival is meant to choose a bride for His Highness Edwin. Going there will just tire you out. It seems like His Highness wanted us to make the choice for him…”
“As a woman, you’ve probably met more women than we have.”
“That’s true.”
“He should just pick anyone and get married already.”
He’s making everyone uncomfortable for no reason.
Adeline recalled the look in Edwin’s eyes as he ran over, sweating despite it being out of character. His angelic appearance made his eyes seem perfect for a melodrama TV series.
Judging by how he spouted nonsense to her after his misery button was pressed while preparing for marriage, it seemed unlikely that habit would change even if he became a married man.
