- Chapter 3 - The Male Lead, a Villain
The Male Lead, a Villain
“Take a look here.”
A firm finger lifted her chin.
The finger then slid down to caress the cheek gently.
It was a cautious touch, as if handling something precious, oddly out of place with the situation. Like the old days.
It felt like looking at a screen glitch.
A gentle touch in a situation of abduction.
However, no matter how gentle the man in front of her appeared, his eyes remained cold, and the fact that she was kidnapped and trapped in some unknown bedroom didn’t change.
‘Why on earth are his eyes like that? What is he looking at when he should be a happy groom?’
Even if she couldn’t imagine this man harming her.
It’s something that could become a reality at any moment.
“Enough with the distractions.”
The fingertips that touched her cheek slipped and caught Adeline’s earlobe. Pressing the soft flesh slightly harder, Adeline barely managed to suppress a scream and glared at him.
“Don’t touch me.”
“You barely even looked at me properly.”
“How could I? You’re the one who kidnapped me.”
“You’re still as feisty as ever.”
Despite the criticism, Shane casually toyed with her soft earlobe. Adeline bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from being distracted by the touch.
It would have been better if he had hurt her instead.
“You never even looked at me when we were engaged.”
“…Shane, stop it. It’s not funny at all. You’re not like this. You’re not the type to say you can’t go anywhere. If you’re upset, I’ll listen, so…”
“Oh, you think you know everything?”
Shane finally removed his hand from her earlobe.
Adeline quickly glanced at him as he stood up from where he had been sitting in front of her. He was dressed casually in a comfortable shirt.
‘Judging by his attire… At least it seems like a villa where he stayed for a few days, if not his own home. Maybe a place he frequents.’
With his thick, toned arms and broad shoulders, his muscular body looked quite sturdy, but he didn’t seem to have any weapons on him.
The room was illuminated only by a single candle, and with no windows, it was dark. It was impossible to gauge how much time had passed.
‘Can I escape?’
Adeline glanced at the entrance behind Shane’s shoulder. It was firmly closed. Above all, she didn’t feel like she could push Shane aside and run away.
As if sensing Adeline’s anxious lip-biting, Shane’s laughter echoed above her temples. Somehow, Adeline felt a lump in her throat as she glared at him.
Is he mocking her now? That ‘Shane Blanchard’.
The sweet ‘hero’ who used to be endlessly affectionate, who would beg her to tell him if he did something wrong, even if she pushed him away?
Shane spoke.
“Adeline, you have no idea who I am.”
“Why wouldn’t I know you?”
She knew his name, his status, his face, and his personality.
They had been engaged and were close since they were very young.
Even if not, Adeline knew Shane as a ‘character’.
She knew him before he was born. Adeline knows everything – from his experiences and past to his future that she should not know.
Yet even then, if he claims that she did not know him, then no one in the world could say they truly knew him.
“You’ve always been like that. Acting as if you know everything about me without even seeing me or asking about me.”
“……”
“There were definitely times when that made me happy.”
Shane moved his lips close as if he were about to kiss her. Adeline couldn’t hold back and shouted sharply like a scream.
“Don’t do it!”
“……”
“You’re married, don’t do this!”
“…Well, nobody’s going to blame me.”
“Don’t act like trash, Shane Blanchard. It doesn’t suit you.”
“Are you blaming me? Calling my name as if scolding a child?”
Shane scoffed.
“Why say that, when you’re the one who encouraged me to cheat throughout our engagement period?”
“That’s…”
Adeline was puzzled by the blatant mockery. She couldn’t comprehend the resentment and criticism that permeated through the laughter.
The male lead, Shane, was a character who garnered popularity for his unwavering devotion to the female lead, Genevieve.
Like any typical male lead, he remained steadfastly in love with the female lead, ignoring any temptation from other beauties.
So naturally, it would have been better for him to reassure her that she didn’t need to worry. He wanted to put her mind at ease because he was a good person.
“That was just an encouragement to accept your true love honestly. And is an engagement the same as marriage?”
“You’re still good with words.”
Shane chuckled and then planted a kiss on Adeline’s round forehead.
Adeline couldn’t avoid it this time, as Shane firmly held her chin, keeping her in place. Feeling the touch of his lips on her forehead, Adeline felt like screaming.
“I’m glad you haven’t changed at all, Adeline.”
Then his lips touched down on her eyes, then fell away. Adeline blinked coldly.
“You seem like a different person.”
“Is that so? Surprisingly, I’m the same. If I seem different to you now, it must mean you’re finally seeing me properly. I’m glad, Adeline.”
“……”
Shane looked at her as if she were adorable. Despite her glaring stare that could kill, he paid no heed.
His gaze simply didn’t seem normal.
‘Who is this person?’
Shane seemed like a stranger to her, someone she had never seen before in her life. He wasn’t the male lead from a novel, nor was he a childhood friend or a former fiancé. This man was someone she did not know at all.
