Thought It Was 'The End', Only to Return to a Changed Genre - Chapter 76
At that moment, Edwin and Genevieve approached. Genevieve, out of breath, grabbed Adeline’s arm.
“Lady Adeline, are you alright?”
“Yes. I’ve been here talking to Shane for a while. Genevieve, you’re not hurt either, right?”
“No. Thanks to being with His Highness Edwin, I was a top priority for protection.”
“Even without me, you’re a top priority for protection. You keep forgetting your status.”
Edwin added.
“Why it appeared requires further investigation, but three knights can handle one ogre, so it’s not a major issue. Well… if someone who’s busy holding his wife’s hand would step in, it could be sorted quickly.”
“If you give me an imperial decree, I’ll consider it.”
Despite Edwin’s sarcastic remark and gaze, Shane replied without any enthusiasm.
The personnel in the hall could handle one ogre, but it was still irritating. Just as Edwin was about to make a sarcastic remark, the ogre’s roar interrupted him.
“How dare it interrupt the Crown Prince,” Edwin muttered to himself.
Grrr! Raaaaa, agh!
“Wait, stop it! It’s targeting the Saintess!”
“Block it!”
The ogre, restrained by chains, rampaged, glaring straight at Genevieve.
Monsters have no intellect. They eat humans and harbor hostility and aggression towards them.
Moreover, they cannot distinguish between humans.
Targeting one person while another attacks them is impossible unless it was being controlled.
Although the knights were barely restraining the ogre with chains, the monster ignored them and stared at Genevieve with its yellow eyes, gleaming with madness.
Adeline hit Shane’s arm.
“What are you doing, do something!”
“No.”
“Shane Blanchard!”
“Calling my name won’t scare me like a child. Adding my title won’t make me afraid either, Adeline.”
Shane twisted his lips mischievously.
“Is this the time to argue? My ears are going to burst. Do something about that thing, quickly!”
“From my experience, I’ve never seen good things happen when I’m not by your side during a commotion.”
“Do you think I’m so out of my mind that I’d get involved in a situation like this? I know the value of my own life.”
“You don’t seem to.”
“There are different kinds of commotions. I’m good at recognizing my limits. The thing I hate most is getting involved where I shouldn’t.”
That’s why I’ve been trying so hard not to get involved between you and the female lead. Adeline wisely swallowed her last words.
There was a momentary standoff.
After a while, Shane sighed quietly. His blue eyes, mixed with displeasure and anxiety, lowered. He reluctantly kissed the back of Adeline’s hand and spoke. His voice was half-muffled by her skin.
“If you promise to stay put.”
“Fine, fine, just hurry…”
“If you break your promise, I’ll lock you up, okay?”
“Just go!”
Shane reluctantly started walking slowly. As he went down to the first floor, he grabbed a sword from a knight awkwardly standing in front of the people.
“Such a hassle.”
Edwin said irritably. Despite saying he would consider his orders, Shane moved because Adeline glared at him a bit. Still, with Shane stepping in, the situation would soon be resolved.
Genevieve pulled Adeline’s arm and whispered in her ear.
“Lady Adeline, by any chance.”
“It’s probably that, yeah.”
Edwin glanced over.
“Do you have a guess?”
“Your Highness, don’t pretend you don’t know while trying to test people. Genevieve, come behind me.”
“Genevieve?”
But when Genevieve didn’t move, Edwin called her and observed her expression.
Genevieve, with a thoughtful face, looked at Adeline and then at the ogre staring at her. Sensing something, Adeline grabbed Genevieve’s wrist.
“Don’t. Don’t do anything!”
“Lady Adeline…”
“Shane will handle it. Let’s wait.”
Shane raised his sword. He easily sliced through the ogre’s arm as it charged toward Genevieve, like cutting cheese.
People cheered, and Shane, looking very annoyed, prepared to behead it in one strike.
Genevieve grasped Adeline’s hand and spoke. Her violet eyes were clouded.
“I think I can do it.”
“Don’t. You’ll become a target.”
“A target…”
Genevieve laughed softly.
“I’m used to that. Besides, we need to show that this method doesn’t work. It’s already the third time.”
Warmth spread from their clasped hands.
Determination to succeed was evident in her profile as she stared straight ahead.
There are moments when you face something you must accomplish.
Adeline unconsciously tightened her grip on Genevieve’s hand.
“You can do it. I know you can.”
“Yes. I can.”
Genevieve seemed to smile.
A light burst forth that had never been seen before.
The light engulfed the hall, and almost simultaneously, Shane’s strike severed the ogre’s head.
