Thought It Was 'The End', Only to Return to a Changed Genre - Chapter 98
There were many things she had to prepare for, and dealing with unnecessary jealousy from others was just annoying. Even when she saw him standing next to other women, she could genuinely support the idea of him dating before meeting the female lead.
After all, he wasn’t hers, so she secretly hoped he wouldn’t make her jealous by hanging around unnecessarily.
Back then, she felt that way, but now…
She couldn’t stand even seeing him have a conversation with another woman.
‘Humans and their desires, sheesh.’
Adeline, thinking it might be better not to see him and spare herself the frustration, turned her back on him and kept her hands and mouth busy.
“Is it tasty?”
“What?”
“You’re eating so enthusiastically.”
At that moment, a stranger spoke to her, pointing at the plate in Adeline’s hand.
Was he asking for some? Adeline pointed to the opposite side and said,
“There are plates over there too. It’s the same.”
“I wasn’t asking because I wanted to eat it.”
His subtle glance made his intentions clear. However, Adeline pretended not to understand and scoffed.
“Why ask if it’s tasty when you don’t want to eat it?”
“Because I’m interested in the person eating.”
“I’m not interested. Find someone else.”
“Don’t be like that.”
If only people understood the first time you say things, the world would be a much better place.
The man, thinking Adeline was just playing hard to get, smirked and approached her.
“Surely, you didn’t come here not knowing what kind of place this is?”
“If I were interested, I wouldn’t be here just snacking.”
“Are you saying you’re acting out to get attention?”
“Me? To get your attention?”
She inadvertently laughed. Adeline regretted it. It wasn’t good to take out her frustration on others.
She lost her appetite. Adeline put down her plate.
“Do you know what ‘overestimating yourself’ means?”
“…I know it’s not a good thing.”
“It’s best not to assign meaning to others’ actions. Unless you want to embarrass yourself.”
“That’s not very convincing.”
The man chuckled, eyeing Adeline up and down.
“Saying that while dressed like this, here.”
The dress with its exposed shoulder was indeed provocative, even by Adeline’s standards. She would never have chosen such a design herself, but the man wouldn’t know that.
“It means you’re not the man I want to attract, even dressed like this.”
“Do you even know who I am…?”
“Why would it matter to me?”
“Talk to me in private, and you might change your mind. It’ll be more fun than just hiding in a corner eating.”
Persistent.
The face barely visible under the mask looked young. Perhaps he hadn’t experienced failure yet. He seemed confident that no woman could resist his charm.
But Adeline wasn’t impressed by a merely handsome face. Her standards had been raised sky-high, thanks to being surrounded by major characters.
“I have something good. You’ve heard the rumors, right?”
How to get rid of this punk. She was already irritated, and her hand itched.
The longer the altercation, the more disadvantageous it was for Adeline. She could see a few people glancing their way.
“I won’t let you regret it, okay?”
The man reached out.
Adeline realized too late that he was trying to touch her mask and swatted his hand away, but a low laugh sounded right beside her ear, sending shivers down her spine.
“Really, I can’t take my eyes off you.”
“Ugh—”
As Adeline turned around, Shane lifted her up. She couldn’t even scream. Her view soared, and she saw the surprised faces of masked people.
Among them, someone recognized her. It was one of the girls who used to follow her around.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Lucian grinning and waving.
Dangling over Shane’s shoulder like a sack, Adeline struggled wildly. He held her firmly, preventing her from moving, and looked at the man, saying,
“Is this what you wanted to play with?”
His cold voice was enough to guess his expression.
It was the worst.
“No, I wasn’t playing, and…”
Shane, letting out a derisive laugh, whispered softly,
“Alright, let’s have a good, long conversation.”
