Towards the Winter Cabin of Serenity and Madness, Cinderella Runs - Chapter 62
Seated at the head of the table, the leader of the Bloodwind Organization was caught off-guard by the mercenary raid, prompting the lead of the Wild Dogs Mercenary Band to call for a hasty retreat.
However, Kyden, who was leading the charge, was unstoppable.
Driven by the fear that Roel might have suffered at the hands of this vile establishment, he ignored the retreat, urging his men forward. He threatened that those who retreat would not get a single penny. They quickly lay waste to a building.
As Kyden’s mercenaries surged forward in a frenzy, the leader of the Bloodwind Organization fled in panic. He vowed revenge for touching him wrongly as he made his way to the Duke’s residence.
With the building secured, the mercenaries rescued several women trapped in the basement.
“Is this her?”
“No.”
“And her?”
“No.”
Despite rescuing all the women, Roel was not among them. Disappointed, Kyden turned away, followed quickly by the leader.
“You’re not thinking of stopping now, are you? We’re in deep trouble now. The guy who got away earlier was the head of the Bloodwind Organization!”
It was too late to turn back. Having crossed the Bloodwind Organization, they had no choice but to fight to the end. Without Kyden, the Wild Dogs Mercenary Band would be doomed.
But Kyden had no interest in their internal strife.
“How is that my problem?”
“….You f–king bastard. No, I misspoke. There could be other places she might be. Shall we keep looking together?”
“….Ha.”
With a weary nod, Kyden left the building. He planned to check a few more employment offices that they hadn’t visited yet.
By early morning, a stroke of luck occurred for the Wild Dogs Mercenary Band—the leader of the Bloodwind Organization had died suddenly.
This death triggered further conflict in the underground world, with various factions joining the fray. At the center was the Wild Dogs Mercenary Band.
The Wild Dogs Mercenary Band expanded their influence by defeating the remaining Bloodwind forces. It was Kyden who led in defeating the remaining forces.
The Bloodwind Organization crumbled without resistance like a fallen leaf in a cold wind. They destroyed one large organization within just two weeks.
While the Wild Dogs celebrated their continuous victories, Kyden was persistently disappointed. He had found no trace of Roel anywhere.
Was it correct that she came to the capital? Should he start over from the beginning?
Overwhelmed by a sense of despair, he became increasingly despondent with each passing day.
He missed Roel. Being among the stinking, brutal, filthy, and barbaric mercenaries and thugs was mentally exhausting. It was also tormenting to see innocent women deceived by employment offices and suffering at the hands of dark organizations.
Every night, he dreamed of Roel—lovely, fragrant, gentle, kind, and warm. He felt blissfully content in his dreams. Only to wake up feeling like plunging into hell.
After the final victory, Ace tried to console the downcast Kyden.
“Second-in-command.”
“Who’s your second-in-command?”
“Cheer up. We can find her if we search all these documents.”
“…”
“The busy work done; we can recheck the employment offices.”
Ace promised to not only utilize the Wild Dogs Mercenary Band but also to distribute a description of Roel to his contacts in other mercenary bands and detective agencies.
Kyden looked at Ace in astonishment, managing to calm his violently pounding heart. After a hard time calming down, he managed to ask,
“Are you only doing this now? Why haven’t you done it before?”
Ace replied confidently, “I’ve personally checked before, and since she didn’t turn up, we have to suspect places like this!”
It wasn’t long after they started asking around that the Wild Dogs Mercenary Band found her whereabouts.
All the talk of Bloodwind Organization, nobility, magic towers, and dark organizations had been nonsense. Roel had been working at the Double Axe Inn Inn on the outskirts of the capital, a place frequented by mercenaries.
F–king bastard, Ace.
Hearing the news, Ace immediately ran from Kyden. Kyden turned the mercenary band’s office upside down in a rage.
With the recent events boosting its fame and acquiring several businesses, the band’s leader benevolently ignored his outburst.
Driven by fury, Kyden entered the Double Axe Inn.
“Welcome!”
As he opened the door nervously, the voice he had dreamed of hearing seemed to echo like a hallucination.
After such a long and roundabout journey, how close they had become. HIs hands were trembling uncontrollably, overcome by an overwhelming feeling, be it joy or anger.
