Towards the Winter Cabin of Serenity and Madness, Cinderella Runs - Chapter 67
The restaurant fell into a sudden silence. Roel was shocked and stiffened. This was the first time she witnessed Kyden getting so angry. Normally, when angry, he merely raised his voice slightly and quickly calmed down, always acting calmly and rationally afterward.
But now, unable to contain his anger, not only did he shout, but he also showed a violent side. The shocked Roel covered her mouth and blinked rapidly.
Kyden had grabbed the harassing patron by the scruff. The patron’s face paled with fear at his menacing demeanor.
“Why, why are you doing this?”
“You really have to ask?”
“I, I really don’t understand…”
The commotion drew Hawk’s attention, as he emerged from the back. Normally, he was quick to intervene in fights because it was an inn where many rough and ignorant mercenaries stayed.
He did this to prevent damage to the inn’s property. But today, seeing Kyden’s imposing figure, Hawk kept his distance. His face was a picture of horror.
Clearly, this was not a man to be messed with. With thirteen years of experience running the inn, Hawk knew when to step back.
An infuriated Kyden shook the patron by the scruff.
“Not knowing what you did wrong? Huh?”
“Kuh! Kuuh!”
The patron gasped for air, his face turning red as he struggled to breathe.
Looking desperately for help, he glanced back at his comrades. But they, too, were hesitant to intervene.
Normally, they would have joined a fight without a second thought. But the enemy was Kyden.
Kyden had recently become one of the most talked-about figures among the mercenaries in the capital.
He had made a dramatic return as the legendary second-in-command of the Wild Dogs Mercenary Group, destroying the Blood Wind organization right after his reappearance. There was no mercenary in the capital who wasn’t aware of his reputation.
In this world, even brawls had rules, and one picked their fights based on the opponent. Dogfights were meant for dogs, not when a tiger or a wolf was involved. Loyalty was one thing, but personal safety was another.
“Cough, cough.”
“Well, it seems this guy really messed up.”
“What a situation.”
The others made half-hearted gestures of concern, merely preserving their own dignity.
Roel was the only one truly worried for Kyden. The patron he had grabbed was known to be a high-ranking mercenary! What if his comrades decided to join in?
Typically, Roel would flee when fights broke out between mercenaries. But this time she was concerned for Kyden. Roel cried and moved closer. She reached out and touched his arm with trembling hands.
“Please, you shouldn’t fight.”
Roel’s face looked as if she might burst into tears at any moment. Seeing her like this, Kyden paused momentarily.
“…..”
With a slow glance at Roel’s face, and then at the despicable face of the man he wanted to kill, he loosened his grip on the man’s scruff.
He realized that showing such violent behavior in front of Roel, who was gentle and sensitive, was not acceptable. Kyden then put his arm around the man’s shoulder and whispered in his ear.
“….Let’s go outside and talk.”
“No, no.”
Despite the guest’s resistance, he was dragged out like a sack of potatoes.
“Help, help me!”
“Stop messing around and just come.”
The resistance was short-lived, and Kyden and the guest exited the inn. The guest’s companions turned away, choosing to ignore the unfortunate scene.
Roel, meanwhile, couldn’t take her eyes off the door and paced anxiously.
Surely they’re just going to talk, right? Why was he so angry? Was it because that guest harassed her? Will everything be alright? Should she follow them?
As Roel grew concerned, the silence in the room began to break.
“Ahem, I think I’ll head to bed early tonight.”
“Yeah, me too. It’s good to drink in moderation.”
The patrons discreetly cleared the room, and even the guest’s companions stood up to leave.
“They’ll just talk it out…”
“Yeah, let’s head up and rest.”
In less than five minutes, the restaurant was deserted. Roel stood bewildered in the middle of the room before turning to Hawk.
“Sir, Sir, I’ll just step out for a moment.”
“Don’t even think about it! Stay out of it and keep quiet.”
Hawk jumped up and stopped Roel.
“But…”
“Even those brutish mercenaries are being cautious. What can you possibly do if you go out there?”
Hawk prevented Roel from interfering and pushed her to clean up the tables instead.
Helplessly, she tidied up the restaurant while continuously glancing towards the door. She was worried about Kyden and fearing he might get hurt.
‘Why does everyone watch Kyden so carefully?’
As she cleaned, she wondered about this.
Just a month ago, Kyden was a hunter living near a small mountain village.
