Towards the Winter Cabin of Serenity and Madness, Cinderella Runs - Chapter 80
The single rooms were intended for the knights, while the triple room was for their squires.
“I’ll prepare them right away.”
Roel’s eyes widened as she looked at her. Hawk’s wife signaled with a glance to make the rooms ready.
There were currently two single rooms and two double rooms available. She was indicating that Roel should convert one double room into a single room and the remaining double room into a triple room.
Understanding the message, Roel nodded and approached the knights.
“I’ll show you to your rooms. Please follow me.”
Roel led the way upstairs, and the knights followed with their armor clanking. The knight at the rear removed his cumbersome helmet, grumbling.
“Does it make sense for us to stay separately? Especially in such a rundown inn…”
Roel, already surprised by the knights’ presence, realized they were also unhappy about staying in such a place. The senior knight clicked his tongue at the young knight’s complaint.
“We have no choice, the hotel rooms are full. Do you expect our lord to stay here instead?”
“That’s not what I meant. Can’t we find somewhere better?”
“We’re only staying for a few nights. It doesn’t matter. Besides, this is the closest inn to where our lord is staying.”
“…”
It seemed the senior knight had chosen the Double Axe Inn because it was the nearest available accommodation to where their lord was staying.
After reaching the second floor, Roel quickly opened the doors to rooms 204, 205, 206, and 208.
“You can use these rooms. We’ll bring a folding bed to room 208. The double and triple rooms are the same size, so you can use the folding bed to accommodate everyone.”
One knight glanced around the room and asked in a frustrated tone, “Isn’t this too small?”
Roel, aware of the knights’ reputation and fearing their displeasure, swallowed nervously.
“Uh… but all our rooms are the same size. This is all we have. I’m really sorry…”
Seeing Roel’s hands clasped and trembling, the knight felt embarrassed and relented.
“In that case, there’s no other choice…”
“Why are you complaining so much? Why take it out on the young lady?”
“When did I take it out on her? I was just asking a question.”
Despite his rebuttal, the knight seemed to feel a bit self-conscious and removed his helmet, revealing a strong jawline. He promptly apologized to Roel.
“Sorry if I startled you.”
A customer apologizing to her? Roel was taken aback. She was used to dealing with ill-mannered customers who often behaved inappropriately. Seeing someone apologize first was a shock.
“Oh, no, it’s fine! I just get startled easily. Don’t worry about it.”
Roel hastily shook her head, stepping back.
“I’ll bring the folding bed right away.”
“Take your time.”
“Yes…”
Feeling awkward and embarrassed by the kindness, Roel hurriedly left the room.
How odd. She had always heard that knights were arrogant and intimidating.
The mercenaries who frequented the inn constantly badmouthed knights.
Mercenaries involved in noble conflicts often encountered knights and held deep grudges against them. They complained that knights were bossy, dismissive, haughty, and looked down on mercenaries. The jealousy and resentment were palpable.
Hearing such stories, Roel had developed a poor image of knights.
‘Everyone’s different, I suppose…’
With that thought, she decided to stop worrying. After all, an overly authoritative and arrogant knight probably wouldn’t stay in such a humble inn.
As Roel was about to head downstairs, one of the knights called out to her. It was the young knight who had been complaining about the inn.
“Do you prepare bathwater?”
“Yes, if you want to take a bath, just let us know. We can prepare warm water for you.”
How long has it been since someone asked for a bath? In the month Roel had worked at the inn, she had never seen a mercenary bathe.
It seemed they would rather not bathe at all unless Roel personally attended to it.
As a result, the bathroom was usually empty, with only Kyden using it regularly.
The young knight smirked.
“And do you provide bath attendants?”
“What?”
“Will you be attending the bath?”
