Towards the Winter Cabin of Serenity and Madness, Cinderella Runs - Chapter 89
“What… What are you talking about? I don’t do that sort of thing.”
“Stop pretending to be innocent. I’m asking because I already know.”
“No, that’s not true! You’ve misunderstood.”
Roel wriggled her shoulders to escape his grip. Seeing the man’s displeased expression, fear began to well up inside her.
“Then why did you go to his room?”
The man’s question made Roel flinch. Did he see her entering his room last night? That must be why he was acting this way.
Some men consider their pride as important as their lives. She had heard that knights are particularly like that. To avoid offending his pride, Roel carefully chose her words.
“…I went because I wanted to. I didn’t get any money or anything like that.”
Seeing Roel’s face turn beet red as she fumbled for words, the knight let out a sneer.
It felt uncomfortable as if only he was being portrayed as the bad guy. Anger flared up at the thought of choosing a mere mercenary over him. The sight of Roel’s embarrassment stung his pride even more.
Falling for a mercenary who was merely handsome and had a good body… especially one who had no pride and ran away from a fight with a knight. How foolish and pathetic.
However, pressing further would be just as ugly. To protect his pride, the knight decided to back off.
“Honestly, I don’t care how much you’re paid for what you do. Just keep it quiet. It’s hard to sleep with all the noise at night.”
He shifted the conversation, implying that it wasn’t his real concern. He knocked on the door of Room 206, showing that he stayed there.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t know… I’ll be more careful. You’ll be able to sleep quietly tonight.”
Roel quickly bowed her head. The knight looked at her with a disappointed expression, noting how compliant and innocent she seemed.
She must be so naive that she’s being played by that guy. The way she was tormented all night—it’s almost cruel to bother such a small, delicate woman. She seems like she wouldn’t even refuse properly, he thought, unable to take his eyes off her.
Just then, a large figure enveloped Roel in a protective embrace, blocking the knight’s view, and gave the knight a shove with his body.
“What’s your deal? Get lost.”
It was Kyden, who had kindly rounded up Ace and brought him back.
The knight’s face turned red. How dare he push him away and tell him to get lost? This was clearly a challenge.
“What? This bastard.”
Is he trying to show off in front of a woman? He’s made a serious mistake. Seizing the chance for some retaliation, the knight lunged at Kyden, aiming to grab him by the collar.
In that moment, the knight envisioned himself knocking the arrogant, handsome mercenary to the ground, then helping the startled woman back on her feet, and delivering a lesson to such a superficial man. He even entertained the fantasy of warmly embracing the woman if she came to his room tonight.
But then, the knight’s body was thrown backward.
“Huh?”
Bang—!
Kyden struck the knight’s wrist, then grabbed him by the collar and slammed him onto the floor.
The knight, lying on the ground, blinked in confusion, unable to grasp his situation.
“Wha—?”
“Stop fooling around and get lost.”
This couldn’t be happening. The bewildered knight stiffened, then quickly tried to regain his composure, scrunching up his face in frustration.
The knight was going to let it go after giving him a rough treatment, but after such an insult, he can’t just walk away. This is a matter of life and death now.
“You bastard!”
The knight struggled on the floor, trying to reach for the sword at his waist.
“You dumb f-ck who can’t understand words.”
Kyden pressed down on the knight’s hand with his foot, then drove a punch into his forehead.
Thud!!
The sound was so heavy it resembled a hammer striking iron at a forge. It was hard to believe it came from the knight’s forehead.
“Ky, Kyden!!”
Roel screamed and rushed over. The whole incident happened so quickly there was no time to stop it.
Suddenly, Kyden stepped forward, knocked the knight to the floor, and landed a blow to his forehead.
The knight lay sprawled out, seemingly unconscious. His white eyeballs were visible, and his mouth hung open in a dazed state.
“Why are you hitting people! And, this man is… a knight!”
“A knight? No, just a bastard.”
“Stop spouting nonsense! Quickly, get away before his companions show up. I’ll clean up the mess.”
