Villain, Let Me Touch You! - Chapter 15
Helios was in the training grounds. I watched him with pride as he dueled in the center of the arena.
Helios Perry Augustine. The prince of the Kingdom of Perry and the original antagonist, but in my eyes, he was simply the most handsome man in the entire world. With a grunt, he swung his sword furiously. The swooshing sound of air being sliced was vividly audible even from where I stood. His nimble movements, uncharacteristic of a man who had been terminally ill for the past few years, looked like he was dancing.
I stood at a distance, observing him radiant and shining. His healthy complexion on fair skin, broad shoulders like the Pacific, and strong thighs was evidence of his vitality. His pure golden hair, glistening with a 100% purity that mocked anything as paltry as 24K, stirred the hearts of the maids who sneakily stole glances at him. Whenever his fiery eyes met theirs, they’d say they were so hot that it would burn. With a straight forehead, sharp nose, and lips hinting at a cynical smile, he was captivating enough to hold anyone’s gaze.
Even after seeing him countless times, he remained undeniably handsome and astonishingly healthy. Even I, his attending physician, couldn’t believe that he was the same patient who had been having random seizures not too long ago. I stared in awe at the product of my labor.
His muscles flexed with each thrust of his sword, sending beads of sweat into the air. They looked like jewels in the sunlight—a testament to his good looks, I suppose.
“Training ends here for today.”
Noticing my heated gaze, he lowered his sword. Helios handed his sword to the squire and approached me. As he drew closer, the fierce aura that surrounded him dissipated. Standing before me, he was suddenly back to his normal self—a man who was a bit gruff, but soft inside.
He chuckled softly, a laugh that was almost heart-melting. Truly, that laugh was guilty, so guilty. Thank goodness I’d read the novel and knew he would imprint on someone else, or I might have mistaken him for liking me.
“Rienna, what’s the matter? It’s not time for medicine yet.”
Even after recovering, he diligently took his health supplements. It had become my responsibility to ensure he took them at the right times. However, my visit today wasn’t about supplements.
“I have something important to tell you, Your Highness.”
Helios leaned down to hear me better. It was always refreshing to see a big man stoop to match my height. He was genuinely affectionate toward someone he had opened his heart to. I wondered how long that would last.
Taking a deep breath, I prepared to deliver the words I had rehearsed.
“Your Highness, I intend to resign.”
Helios straightened up. The hint of a smile faded from his face, replaced by deep furrows in his forehead. Suddenly, the air grew tense. His imposing presence made it hard to breathe, a moment where I realized he embodied the villain from the novel.
“What did you say?”
“As Your Highness has recovered, I’ve decided to retire. I’ve selected a new personal physician…”
“Ah, that person? They’re not in good health.”
Huh? That couldn’t be true. I’m not someone who neglects my duties. I had thoroughly researched the replacement, and they were in excellent health. They could live for ages without needing any health supplements.
I even consulted with Master Ebony, just to be sure, and conducted separate stamina tests to ensure they could handle Helios’s packed schedule. My replacement passed with flying colors.
“He quit.”
“How do you know? They haven’t even started their duties yet. And did I mention selecting a replacement for Your Highness?”
The appointment of palace physicians fell under the jurisdiction of the Imperial Health Ministry. Although Helios’s personal physician had been chosen at the Empress’s behest, she no longer involved herself in these matters after my tenure. Both the selection of doctors and what to do with them were decided by the Imperial Health Ministry, and the process was not known unless one paid special attention to the Ministry. Naturally, until today’s training session, Helios hadn’t shown any interest in their affairs.
More importantly, my retirement and the paperwork related to my replacement had been highly confidential. Despite having read only the early parts of the web novel due to my finances, I was still an avid reader. I was familiar with how these stories went whenever a character talked about retiring. I knew Helios wouldn’t react that much differently.
Of course, there was a crucial difference between him and an average male lead in these transmigration stories.
Helios can’t love me.
It was all because of that darn destiny.
