Villain, Let Me Touch You! - Chapter 44
“Excuse me, Doctor. We really need to go,” Jamie urged as I stood in a daze.
“The patient’s condition is worsening.”
Although it was simple abdominal pain, the man’s face was turning pale with evident pain.
To treat the patient, I needed medicine. However, I hadn’t brought the emergency medicine pouch today.
The only time I’ve ever carried an emergency medicine bag was when His Highness Helios was sick.
I was nearly empty-handed. The only thing I had was some pain reliever in case of emergencies.
“Ca… can’t you… treat me? Am… am I going to die?”
The patient’s anxiety snapped me back to reality. I quickly composed myself.
If I can see words, it might be possible to erase the illness.
“Let me feel your stomach so I can see exactly where it hurts.”
I brought my hand to his abdomen, pretending to press while gently stroking his stomach.
Immediately, the color returned to the man’s face noticeably, and the words began to fade slightly.
“It’s strange. It doesn’t hurt anymore. What did you do?”
Indeed, it’s quite strange.
“I’m glad you’re feeling better, but this is just a temporary fix. You should take this and go to a doctor you know.”
In case the man doubted my abilities, I took out painkillers from my pocket. Without questioning or suspecting a stranger, he took the medicine I offered.
Of course, from his point of view, I must have felt like a lifesaver. It’s the imperial palace, after all—skilled people must come by all the time.
Still, he seemed a bit too gullible.
He seems like the perfect mark for a scam.
“Thank you. How can I repay this kindness?”
I got up and said, “As a doctor, it’s just something I should naturally do. Don’t worry about it.”
I extended my hand to help him up, causing dirt and dust to fly around. My carefully chosen attire was now a mess of mud and grass stains.
“I’ve ruined your dress. I apologize.” The man, rising to his feet beside me, bowed slightly.
“It can’t be helped. It’s not like you did it on purpose.”
“I really want to show my gratitude. If you could tell me which noble family you belong to, I’ll make sure to visit and express my thanks.”
I’m not from any noble family, though I am the head of the Harris barony. However, I didn’t want to complicate matters by revealing my name unnecessarily. Receiving undue attention was embarrassing, and most importantly, I didn’t have the time for formalities.
Since a while ago, Jamie had been constantly pointing at her watch and tapping her foot impatiently.
I quickly checked the time. There were precisely three minutes left until the appointed time with the Queen. Can we get there on time?
“Doctor, we need to go right now.”
Right. There was no time to think or ponder at the moment.
Swiftly, I took off my shoes and held them in my hands.
“Never mind the case, I’m glad you’re feeling better. You should definitely go to the hospital.”
“Hey! Excuse me!”
The man called after me from behind, but I didn’t have time or energy to answer. I felt like the last runner in a relay. Of course, I had never run in a relay before because I was sick at the hospital all my life. What’s a relay, I’ve never even been to a track meet.
Nevertheless, I sprinted as if my life depended on it. I ran frantically without looking ahead.
These situations always end up in accidents.
And this time was no different.
“Oof!”
“Eek!”
I collided with someone, rubbing shoulders, trying to identify the person.
“Are you alright? I’m so sorry. I was in a hurry…”
I looked towards the Queen’s palace. I’d been running so hard, but it was still far away. I wasn’t going to make it in time.
I was someone quick to give up. Hanging on to things that don’t work is for the healthy, the wealthy, and those who had plenty of time.
I brushed off my disappointment and walked over to the cowering woman.
“You’re scared, aren’t you? Tell me what’s wrong. I’m a doctor.”
The woman was quite beautiful. Her hair looked silky smooth, and there’s a nice scent about her. Judging from her appearance, she seems to be from a high-ranking family, which might mean I was in big trouble here.
I very cautiously grabbed the young lady’s shoulder. After shouting my apologies a hundred times, I had intended to go on my way.
“Oh, Doctor, you’re a fast runner. But the lady before you… is that Miss Chloe?”
But it turned out that I didn’t have to. The man from the garden had followed me and took the initiative to make the introductions.
“Ch…Chloe Dorian?”
The person I bumped into was the heroine.
